Zachary shrugged, looking at the boy with raised eyebrows. "We'll have to get a good team together this year," he said finally. "I've been going around telling everyone our team is a million times better than last term's."

Adrienne noticed some Slytherins talking in hushed tones and raised an inquisitive eyebrow. After a moment, she walked over to their group, catching Zachary's last statement. "I don't see how it's possible to be any worse than last term's team." She said in their same low voice. "It'll be an absolute travesty if this team is as horrid as it was before." She remembered watching their last game, and her expression turned to one of disgust.

Zachary turned from Jerred to look at Adrienne, remembering her vaguely from a few nights ago in the Common Room. "Obviously last year wasn't Slytherin's best." He said with a scowl, looking back at the Hufflepuffs. Letting his gaze wander back to the girl, he raised an eyebrow. "You'll be trying out for the team this year, then?"

Jerred looked away at the mention of the Quittich team. He felt his cheeks warm as he stared at a brick near the skirting board. He turned back and put on the best smile he could. "A Slytherin team full semi-decent players is far superior to a full team of Hufflepuff's, no matter how hard they train." Jerred said. "Besides, I'm not playing after last term."

'Oh, dragon dung,' Thom spat as Jerred mentioned the Hufflepuff players. 'We wiped the floor with whoever we played last year - and our team this time round is the best we've ever had. You lot don't even have a team you're so terrible!' he laughed nastily as he scrapped the ash winder from his boot on the grass.

Jerred shrugged. "Yes, you may have proverbially wiped the floor with us, but it was a 7 on 3 match up, not exactly fair odds." Jerred replied coolly, shrugging his shoulders. "And for our team, we have one coming, don't we? And if this team of yours is the best you've ever had, then by god you must suck!"

Zachary watched Jerred with a raised eyebrow. "You captained last term, didn't you?" He said thoughtfully. "Is that why you won't play?" He made a face before looking at Adrienne. "I think you should both try out, otherwise it'll just end up like last year, and I really don't want to suffer another loss against Hufflepuff." He said dramatically, wincing as if even imagining the idea pained him.

Jerred looked intently at Zachary. "Yes, I captained last term, but because of Professor Addis I was in detention." He replied, scoffing a laugh.

Rhiannon glanced around her feet at Thom's comment and grinned animatedly at the sight of one of her many creatury (( Damn right its a word. )) companions. 'SKULL!' She exclaimed in delight, scooping the crup into an affectionate hug. 'You must never go wandering off into the forest again.' She wagged a finger at him, looking thoroughly pleased to have the creature on her lap back. 'Turned my back for one second and he was off trotting into the forest.' Rhia explained to the few students giving her an odd look before turning back to Skull. 'I thought you had been eaten by an acromantula.' She said in a tone that most would use with a baby. Looking up, she noticed Thom eye the dog-like creature with a somewhat regretful frown -- something she would perhaps have to investigate later.
'Well as you'll be needing to know how to distinguish crups from terriors anyway - theres no time like the present.' Rhian gently placed Skull on the ground before her, letting him wonder amongst the students. 'Crups are very loyal and affectionate, and can be recognised by their fork tails.' She gestured to the Skull's tail, who was busily sniffing the nearby student. 'Though if the tail has been removed at youth, you could always put it near a muggle, because although they love us wizards -- they's also love to bite a big chunk out of any muggle if they had the chance.' Some of the Slytherins looked rather pleased at the prospect.
Suddenly there was a rather ominous SQUELCH -- and a very guilty looking Hufflepuff. Peering down at the patch of earth that had been slivering with a few ashwinders a moment ago, Rhia raised an eyebrow. 'Well if anyone was to come into the lesson now they wouldn't think it was ComC thats for sure.' She laughed, taking into account that they would have only been creating fires and turning to dust in half an hour or so.. not exactly fun.
It was then when she noticed with a smirk, that the Slytherins of the group had taken up to talking about quidditch and insulting Hufflepuff. 'Speaking as a previous Gryffindor of this school, I'll think you'll find if anyone is going to win, its them.' Probably not the most appropriate teacher's comment.
(( =O Man, I really babble with this character, apologies! ))

Jerred's ears pricked when he heard the Professor. He turned slightly to look at her out of the corner of his eye and laughed silently. Gryffindor had by no chance of winning once the Slytherin team got together. With a devilistic grin he turned back to the others.

Zachary looked at the crup with distaste, only brightening when hearing they disliked Muggles almost as much as he did. His attention was drawn back to the Professor with her last remark, and he scowled.
He then caught Jerred's eye and raised his eyebrow, "I hear Gryffindor's team is made up of a bunch of girls this year. Could probably knock them off their brooms easy" He said under his breath and smirked, his gaze clearly suggesting they had no chance.

"Don't underesitmate a group of girls." Jerred said tensely. "Never underesitmate a group of girls, no matter how much they truly suck."

Rhiannon smirked as she let her comment stew with the Slytherins. She decided that she would have to take a look at her old house's team and see if there was any way she could help. 'But getting back to the lesson.' She shifted slightly on the tree stump. 'Ashwinders are not the only creature you find in magical fires. Perhaps you would like to take a closer look?' She gestured to the nearest student to come closer, and pointed at a particular area amongst the burning logs.
A small, scarlet lizard was scampering across the wood, its small mouth opening and closing as it scurried through the flames. Rhian reckoned the class would appreciate this creature much more than the ashwinders, as its rich colour was really quite striking, and its small size made it seem very approachable.

Zachary was much more interested in the lizards than he was with the Ashwinders and moved closer, frowning in thought. "Salamanders." He said, reaching out to touch one. He had always been quite fond of reptiles. "Do they burn?" Making a face, he pulled his hand away deciding not to risk it.

Rhiannon gave an approving nod. 'Salamanders.. you got it in one,' The ex-Gryffindor never thought on her first lesson that she would happily give- '10 points to Slytherin, and nah don't worry about touching them - they may feed on flame, but they don't burn.' She picked up the nearest Salamander and held it out to Zachary for him to hold. 'You may have noticed the sudden colour change.' The previous scarlet lizard, was now a brilliant white. 'Salamanders, you see, are sorta like a chameleon in how they adapt to their environment, except for them it depends on the heat of the fire.'
Rhia pulled a small container out of her pocket and emptied a bit of its content onto her hand. 'Pepper.' She explained to the few curious glances she received. 'Salamanders can live up to six hours outside a fire if regularly fed on pepper.' She moved her hand in front of the salamander Zachary was holding, and let it briskly ingest the pepper. 'Now,' She grinned. 'If anyone wants else wants to hold one.. get your butts over here.' Picking up Skull the crup, she moved away from the stump to give everyone enough room to get to the fire.
