Lesson I Creatures Covered: Ashwinders, Crups and Salamanders Rhiannon had become the uncharacteristic perfectionist as she had began preparing the afternoon's lesson that morning. Normally a somewhat unaffected person, it was surprising to see that the idea of her premiere lesson had got the better of her nerves. Even now, with minutes before students would arrive, she was unnecessarily stoking the fire she had kept going for the past few days and only began to sink back into her usual casual composure when she spotted small grey snakes slivering through the flames. The sides of her mouth twitched into a relaxed grin, as she sat herself on a large tree trunk.
The opening in the forest that Rhia had chosen was perfect -- not too far in to avoid danger but not too near the castle to avoid disturbing the more timid creatures she had collected. For after all, she had planned a small treat for her first time teaching -- spending her weekend tracking down numerous creatures for the students to meet. Being the astute person she was, she figured that this would provide a good opportunity for her to rate the level the students were at, as well as hopefully spark some interest into them. Everything was set and ready, all she needed now was someone to teach.

Jac walked with purpose in her footsteps. She thought she was late for her first Care of Magical Creatures lesson. But when she arrived by a large tree trunk with who was obviously her professor sitting on it and no one else around, she frowned. "Afternoon, Professor," she said, her hair turning maroon, "um, where's everyone else? I thought I was late."

Girty had decided that this term she was going to make a huge effort when it came to lessons and so thought it best to turn up on time. She skipped down the path from the castle and made her way to where the lesson was planned. "Hello professor." She then saw only Jac so moved towards her. "Hey Jac. Nice to see you again"

Jac smiled and nodded at Girty. "Hey Girty," she said. "Having a good day so far?" she asked, making small-talk.

Thom was singing loudly as he approached the opening in the trees, having found the note on Professor Jones's office door instructing everyone to come down to the edge of the forest. He knew that it was rare for a Care of Magical Creatures professor to hold a lesson in a classroom, but being their first lesson he had expected it anyway. And it also looked like rain.
Jumping dramatically over a large rock and a fallen tree branch, Thom landed next to the magical fire, and immediately reeled back at the sight of the white ashwinders. 'Oh disgusting...' he muttered.

Girty smiled at Jac. "Yeah my day has been OK thanks. Yours?" She then heard a noise behind and turned around to look at Thom. "Trust you to make an entrance!"

Jerred walked into the classroom and saw that no other Slytherin was present. He sighed and made his way to the first empty desk he found, threw his bag down on the floor and sat down, reclining as much as he could. He felt cold, no matter what the temperature was, he was cold, he knew why, but would not reveal it to anyone.
"Good morning Professor." Jerred chimed in at last, his voice shaking like he was cold. It didn't help him either than his teeth kept chittering against each other.

Lisa grinned to herself as she ran toward the forest, her bag swinging along side her. She hadn't taken Care of Magical Creatures in her previous years, and when she saw the notice that the class was to be held in the forest, she was immediately glad she had signed up this term.
Brushing some hair from her eyes as she reached the clearing, she came to a slow stop, a little breathless. Dropping her bag onto the floor, she tried to fade her grin into a smile as she acknowledged the professor. Then, unfastening her cloak, she set it on the ground and sat on it eagerly, thankful that this lesson wouldn't require any notes... Or at least, she hoped that was the case.

(( Attendance: G +20, H +20 and S +10 )) Rhiannon lifted her head to see the first student arrive, and was particularly pleased to see that is was someone from her old house. She placed a foot on top of the stump, and let the other fall casually over the side -- not exactly the most formal posture for a teacher. 'Morning.' She greeted in her sing-song Welsh accent, before grinning in slight surprise at the girls sudden change in hair colour. 'Ooh, a metamorphmagus in the class eh? Well you don't see that everyday.' She commented approvingly.
At the same moment that a Hufflepuff appeared, Rhia furrowed her eyebrows as she heard distant sounds of what seemed to be.. singing, soon followed by a big THUD, as a lad came flying down next to the fire. 'Beth ar y ddaer-' She muttered to herself, staring at the boy amusedly, before noticing a small badge upon him. 'I wish they made prefects like that in my time.' She laughed, distinctly remembering a particular stern, boring one that took fifty points off her in one night (admittedly she had been bewitching the common room cushions to whack anyone who tried to enter or exit).
(( Woo, Amy the genius naming one of the creatures! ))

((I know, knew what they were woop! Amazing me! )) Thom looked down at his chest, the sun catching the badge. Although he would not say, he had spent long and hard trying to the exact position to pin it to his front, and his mercilessly rubbed it with his sleeve, trying to pick up the gold sheen. Thom had acted with indifference when he had found the prefect crest in the post, but inside he had swelled with pride, and still was. 'I'm going to be a cheery prefect, professor,' Thom informed Professor Jones, grinning.

But as she as about to take a seat, and succeded in entering unnoticed, she slipped and fell flat on her face. Alicia groaned as she rolled over on the cold ground, swearing under her breath.

"Typical of a Hufflepuff," Adrienne sneered, having been walking a few feet behind her, in order to get to the clearing. Not offering the girl help, she walked to an emptier spot and crossed her arms over her chest, an eyebrow raised at the fire.

"Thanks for the help," Alicia smiled at the girl who had just walked passed her. She got to her feet and and stood closer to the rest of the class

Thom gave the Slytherin girl a sideways glance before walking up next to Alicia, bloking out the contemptuous girl. 'You're Alicia, aren't you? I've seen you about. Nice to meet you.' he said calmly, nodding to her with a small smile. Thom could still feel the Slytherin behind him, and the usual urge to start a fight filled his chest, but he restrained himself. He was a prefect now. He would have to settle for giving her the silent treatment...

Jerred sighed, slamming his head down on the desk. It hurt him little, just more annoyance than pain. He didn't like this years batch of students anymore than last years. He sighed and looked at the front of the classroom, wishing the professor would start the class already.
