Thom caught sight of Darin racing into the lethifold collective. Desperately he looked at Novella. "Stop it!" he said desperately. "He's too small they'll eat him!"

Turning back to Halo, he took hold of her wrist and began to tug her up the shore to where Keifer lay. Come on, Halo, wake up, we need you... he thought hopeless. Halo was a rather stronger witch than all of them. They were most probably doomed with her.

"Novella, LOOK OUT!" he screamed as he turned back, one particularly large one at her feet.

And UGH, Novella's more powerful than Halo for sure! Stupid Thom, now I have to use a patronus xD ))


Novella tore her eyes from where she thought Darin should be, finally noticing the lethifold which had broken through their defense. There was no time to think, and in the end it wasn't even her who cast the spell. She stared at it in fear and Loiosh took hold of the power, casting the spell himself. He spoke with her voice. "Expecto Patronum!"

Their mind was copper-yellow and this was happiness and the memory was of their eyes meeting, Loiosh's snout still sore from bashing through his egg shell.

And the thing which was more than a patronus was nothing more than Loiosh himself, although bigger, but to Novella's horror it did not fly toward the lethifold. It flew to the crowd of them, but barely touched them, the dark creatures only edging away.

And then Darin was visible for a moment, the almost-patronus meeting the small ferret and melding with him until he looked at Novella with eyes that were almost human, and ran toward her on legs which were almost human as well, and destroyed the lethifold with nothing more than a swipe of his claws.

"Hmm, what?" she asked sitting up. She was still rather dazed and weak but she was concious and that was good. "What's going on-ahh!" she screamed jumping up as she again saw that there were lethifolds. She remembered what had happened, "Are they still not dead!?" she shreiked

(( Oi, no destroying my lethifolds, they've got to last until Algy shows up and delivers some sort of master plan! ))

Thom sighed in relief as Halo came to. "You're patronus - it worked. It was a snidget (( thanks Novella )) can you believe it? A snidget!" He stood aside so that she could stand up. Thom was growing weaker now, his shoulders sagging. This day had been far too stressful - first the loss of his wand, then being attacked by all the wands in Hogwarts, then the attack of the lethifolds, and now being sucked through a portal and spat out at the lake with the little beasts and his broom shattering in the process!

And the worst of it? He'd just remember he'd left his unicorn horn in the ditch in the forest. Now he was mad.

"A patronus," he muttered to himself. "Alright..."

Thinking hard, he scrapped his mind for an adequate memory.

He came upon the day his mother first handed down her beloved, old fashioned Comet Two-Sixty to him, and he instantly swelled with pride and happiness at the first encounter with his oldest friend... then he slowly remembered that his broom no longer existed in one piece. It was not going to do.

"I need a happy memory!" he yelled out loud.

Then it came to him. It filled him with a happiness only he knew.

"EXPECTO PATRONUM!!!!"

(( My... well I'v been here far too long, so I'm just going to make Thom drop dead for now. You can sort of work around his body. Good night. ))

Blazing and magnificent, Thom was thrown backwards as his very first patronus errupted from his wand. Fast and lean, it darted into the army of lethifold as swift as lightning, knocking them backwards towards the lake, fighting to hold them off.

Thom's knees gave out and he slummed to the ground, a hazey fog filling his sight and mind. Just before he passed out, his patronus returned to him for only a moment, slender and watchful.

It was a fox...
