Lisa watched Novella with wide eyes, beside the others. She instantly reached for her wand, and fear clenched in her gut when she remembered it wasn't there. Swallowing, she swore under her breath moving back, her eye still on Novella's dragon.

Thom and Keifer zoomed from one of the many portals along the shore, the Comet Two-Sixty trembling violently as they were sucked from their previous location of the Forbidden Forest, out onto the warm, sunny shores of the lake.
Plummeting to the ground, Thom and Keifer flew from the rickety contraption just before it shattered against a rock, a lethifold slipping over it, hungry.
They were cloak-like creatures, thin and black and silent, hunters of people. Thom's face drain of colour as he watched them swarm the shore in their angry numbers, and he remember all too vividly his and Keifer's desperate escape from them.
Bringing himself back to reality, he began to shout. "Get away from them! Don't let them digest you!"

The lethifolds drift toward them as flying cloaks and Darin whispers that they should not be out in the daylight, Novella wonders off-hand why he knows this.
He continues. <They eat people at night, smother them in darkness.> But Novella senses his desperation, that he does not know how to defeat them, and suddenly she too is scared.
<Loiosh...>
There is brown-copper bravery, and blue-copper fear. But there is also red-copper, and she knows that is anger. Paper thin wings flap harder than they have before, and Loiosh lifts his small body into the air.
<Thirtyone. There are thirtyone.> He tells her, and Novella wonders if there is some signifigance in it, but that probably does not matter either. Loiosh flies in a wide arc over the advancing army of shadows.

Thom ran to the Gryffindor, what looked like a small dragon next to her. "Stay back - don't let them touch you!" he warned. Thom had come to the conclusion that these were no ordinary lethifolds. As he had explained to Keifer earlier in the forest, lethifolds were exotic creates of the night, and there presence only meant one thing - a hybrid. They had clearly adapted to a colder climate and moved North... (( All the way to Scotland )) A strange sound filled the air suddenly, and with relief Thom remember that it was Keifer who had accidentally summon everyone's wands, and that now he was here, they were following him back to the lake. Thin arrows filled the air - a swam of wands. "Summon your wand, girl!" Thom shouted at Novella.

Boggleworth thundered "accio wand, come here" and it flew to his hand. He then roared "Impedimenta!" at the nearest one stopping it in mid-flight. He ducked as one flew overhead and muttered "Incarcerous" at it to bind it for a short time.

Novella grits her teeth and prepares to shout that she doesn't need a damn wand, but Loiosh beats her to it. For an instant she can see through his eyes, sharp as a hawks, and she picks her wand out of the storm. He soars into the cloud and grabs it in his teeth, dropplets of poison seeping into the wood, and back to her to place it in her hand.
He is off again before she can thank him, and she is glad for that. It is safer in the air. Darin tenses on her shoulder and prepares to jump, but she yells a sharp reprimand outloud without meaning to and he freezes. She will deal with his anger later.
Pressing her wand to her throat: "Sonorus!" And her voice is louder than the yells of the scared children, and she calls out to them all. "He's right. All of you, summon your wands!" And then to him, "How do we defeat them?"

She felt her wands energy, 'Come on... come on... she pleaded 'Come back to me! she closed her eyes, pleading with unseen forces when she felt a thud at her feet, she smiled and picked up her wand, "Yes!" She looked over at Bog, "That won't work! You have to use the Patronus charm!" she yelled. "

The sky had clouded over now, and Thom realised with a sinking feeling that this would only make them stronger. He watched about him, people summoning their wands ready to fight. Grabbing Keifer's arm, he yanked him up the shore. He was still very weak by the looks of it. "Stay here!" He told the Ravenclaw.
Turning back to the lethifolds, Thom raised his wand. "Incendio!" he shouted, a burst of fire consuming the closest one. It shrunk back, coiling and burnt like coke on a bonfire. Thom sighed in relief. He fired again.
Of course. Fire...
"I don't know how to beat them entirely!" he shouted. "But try fire! Just give them all you've got!" he sent another flame their way.
"We need help... someone get a teacher!"
A mereperson or two wouldn't have gone a miss either.

"I'm not bloody well good enough for that!" laughed Boggleworth, Copying Thom's example he roared at another "Incendio!". "Come on everyone, together!" he yelled.

Novella had never summoned a Patronus. The happiest moment in her life had to have been when she found Loiosh (He chuckled in her mind,) but even with the power and the adrenalyne she was sure she couldn't produce on on the first try. And time was of the essence.
But fire? Fire she could do.
<Loiosh, back to me!> She called, and this time he obeyed. His talons which were also her talons dug into her shoulder which was also his and their power was theirs and it was enough.
There was no need for a spell, although the magic did flow up her arm and through her wand, scorching the wood, and shot forward, consuming four of the creatures in the blaze.

Thom grinned appraisingly at Novella's fire, then at Halo.
"Yes, you're right - patronus are made of light, these things hate extreme light!" he said loudly.
"Flagrate!" a chain of fire soared from the tip of his wand, and like a lasso it whipped at the ground before him, not striking the lethifolds, but pushing them back towards the water.
The portals had slowly began to close, as it seemed less forest material was being spat out at the students amoung the assault of wands and lethifolds.
"Flagrate!!!" he said once more. "We - we need to drive them back to the portals before they close!" Thom cried desperately.

'Dumb boys!' she thoght angrily. 'I bloody well won't get killed for not trying!' She raised her wand, summoning as much energy as she could muster, focusing everything she had on this one spell, pulling up the happiest thoughts she could. The day she got her hogwarts letter? The day she met Brian? The day she'd made Cela? None of them were good enough, that's when it hit her. Kim's wand. Her first ever wand, that she'd made. "EXPECTO PATRONUM!" she bellowed. She felt her energy leaving her, she felt the magic escaping her body but it had to work. It just had to. She was drained, and still nothing was happening when... yes. Yes there it was, something silvery forming on the tip of her wand, growing, shaping... she wanted to see, she wanted to know what her patronus was but she was too weak. It was big, she coudl tell that much. She laid down, closing her eyes, Jsut let it help them...' she prayed. The silver being swarmed over the lethifolds that shrank back in terror.

Lisa spotted the wands and stared at them for a moment, before quickly locating hers and using a simple summoning charm while hoping her strength was strong enough to pull it to her without the aid of a wand. She noticed one of them separating slightly from the large cluster and held out her hand, stretching it out as far as it would go.
Grasping her wand, she looked around her and quickly shouted, "Relashio!" A jet of fiery sparks soared through the sky and managed to hit the nearest Lethifold. She would have let out a cry of glee if they weren't in such great danger.

Something cool and bright appeared over their heads, vast and blinding and strong. It forced the air down upon them, and Thom was forced to shield his eyes against the being.
(( I have no idea what to make your patronus... something big? Er... whale? Shark? Dragon?! ))
It pounded down upon the slithering lethifolds, and Thom knew that if they could make a sound, they would be screaming.
"So patronuses can hold them off at least..." he muttered to himself.

Novella watched in surprise as a giant silver snidget erupted from the end of Helia's wand, driving back the horde of lethifolds. But then Helia collapsed, and Novella shook her head, turning back to the creatures. That wouldn't work, not if everyone fainted after conjuring just one.
But Darin had another idea. He leapt from her shoulder, ignoring her warning this time as well as Loiosh's jaws, snapping into the air behind him. He was visible for an instant on impact, but then Novella could no longer see him, but she knew he was running into the horde.
