Professor Caleb Black just finished the last of the five potions he had spread at every table across the room and sighed. He looked around his dungeon classroom and thought of his brother. Why did you leave me? He paced and then took a seat at his desk arranging some of the jars of ingredients on his desk when the first student entered the classroom.

Thom looked about the room with a disgruntled expression as he pushed open the door. He had been very put out to discover that Professor Wigglyfish had departed with little notice, and that he had been left without a Potions master to lead his apprenticeship. He was even more put out to find that that position had already been filled - Thom could not deny that he had had his eye on the position. Perhaps it was good thing that he would not be able to be the Potions master at Hogwarts. He imagine briefly teaching Girty and Zachary, a cold tingling traveling down his spine.
The dungeon was as gloomy as ever, and Thom stared about wide eyed, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the weak candle light. It was then that he came across a tall, severe looking man standing in front the professor's desk. A rather icy expression was plastered on his face. 'Are you... professor Black?' Thom asked timidly, checking the small piece of parchment he held in his hand.
He suddenly really wanted Wigglyfish back.

"Ah yes that would be me." He said eying the young man. He held out his hand graciously.he smiled a little at the young mans disgruntled look. He didn't think he would shake his hand so Caleb put it back in his robe pocket. "You are Thom I expect? I have been informed by the Headmaster that you are the Potions Apprentice. Welcome aboard! Your opinions are valued highly so please do not hesitate to put out input. Now I have set up five different potions around the room for the students. My choices are Drought of living death, Felix Felicis, Forgetfulness potion, Polyjuice potion, and my favorite Wit-Sharpening potion! A useful potion when one needs to think clearly. What do you think?"

L.C walked into the classroom with a smile on her face. 'I hope I get it' she thought about the tournament. "Hello professor." she said putting her things down, but not taking a seat. 'Hmm... I wonder' she contemplated giving him a once over before turning to the door hoping some more people would come.

Perry fell into the classroom the door slamming shut behind him, he glared about him as the retreating footsteps of his sister faded. Picking himself up he scowled about the room, dusting himself off and muttering "this looks like bloody fun...ruddy lessons...what's the point?" he wandered over to a seat his eyes fixed in a deep scowl on the teacher. Dumping his satchel on the floor he put his head in his arms and closed his eyes wearily; why the hell does she push me around? he wondered thinking of his sister.

Grace opened the door to her potions class hesitantly. Why's it closed? she thought. Then saw a gryffindor boy who must be Kerry's brother. She smiled at him and walked forwards. She saw Thom and smiled at him and then she saw LC and decided to sit next to her. At least one normal person, she thought and whispered, "hi!" to her. Then said to the professor, "morning Professor!"

"Morning!" he said cheerfully to the new Hufflepuff arrival. He stared at her for a moment taking in the fact that she was maybe three years younger than him at the most. "How are you on this fine day?" He asked with a smile. "Miss Grace Marks I presume. Welcome to the first Potions lesson of the year! All of you!" He said taking them all in. "I see our number is few. That doesn't matter. I see a few of you braved it into the subtle science that is Potions. By the end of the year I you lot will take and pass the Potion O.W.L. It will be a tough one but mark my words, I will get you through it with flying colors. Now lest start. Lets see. One of you to each Potion. Thats it. Now can anyone tell me what is in their Cauldron?" He asked Beaming.

Andie walked into the classroom just as the professor asked them to tell him what was in their cauldron. "Good morning Professor. Sorry I'm late." She quickly took a seat at the front of the room.

Zachary threw his robes over his shirt as he sped through the hallway. His bag swung by his side, hitting his knee with every sharp turn he took, trying to reach the dungeons in time for the first potions lesson with the new professor.
He had been relieved when he heard the lessons had moved back into the dungeons, and decided he'd not give up on the class like he had planned. When he reached the door, he smoothed down his robes, still panting, before turning the knob.
The class seemed to be mostly essembled already, and he stared at them a bit awkwardly.
"Er-- Sorry I'm late."
His gaze caught Thom and he scowled. He had hoped since Wigglyfish had departed, her apprentice would follow her.[/color]

Thom opened his mouth to reply to Professor Black when a Slytherin girl walked through the door, followed a moment later by a rather disgruntled Gryffindor who he had not seen before. Professor Black turned away at this point to greet them, taking particular interest in Grace as she too entered the lesson. Thom gave her a quick wave before she turned her attention from him to Lauretta. He felt rather tense as he was left standing alone at the front of the room.
He studied Professor Black for a moment, watching the man move smoothly forward, directing various loiterers and late comers to cauldrons. Thom, of course, had been through all this before, having past his NEWTS just last summer. Although he had had barely any lessons aiding Professor Wigglyfish, he new that it was probably best if he waited until Professor Black directed him to help a student or aid in demonstrating one of the many potions set out, and so took himself to a spare stool at the side of the room.
It was then that a familiar face entered the room. Zachary Daniels glowered at Thom childishly. 'Get lost,' he mouthed furiously at the Slytherin menace, a sudden wave of unease coming over him. It was common knowledge that he and Zachary were not stable when in the same room...

Grace simply smiled at the professor's question and was about to add something when a ravenclaw girl burst into the class shortly followed by a slytherin she had seen about the school. She looked at Thom with a knowing smile on her face for the feud between the two was the stuff of legends through the gossip grapevine. She was pulled out of her thoughts by the professor interjecting. She jumped up and took the handle of the nearest potion, taking it back to her seat. She looked and smiled happily smelling freshly cut grass, the lake, and freshly ground lavenders.
She stuck her hand into the air at the professor's final question and said happily, "Sir, this is Felix Felicis. I'm not exactly sure what ingredients go in it but I'm sure that it's Felix Felicis because of the molten gold colour and the large drops that look like goldfish that are jumping above the surface without spilling. A single miniscule glass bottle can contain enough Felix Felicis to last 12 hours. It gives the drinker an exhilarating sense of confidence and a tremendous sense of opportunity making all the drinker’s endeavours seamlessly succeed. However, if taken in excess the potion causes giddiness, recklessness, and dangerous overconfidence, and this is highly toxic in large quantities. I remember reading that the potion was banned in organized competitions such as sporting events like Quidditch and examinations and elections." Grace retracted her hand from the air and smiled sheepishly at her uncanny ability to remember random information when she reads it.

"That is correct!" Caleb said beaming at the class. "Ten points to Hufflepuff! Now can anyone else tell me what is in their cauldron?" He said taking a long hard look at them all.

Andie looked down at her cauldron which held a slow-boiling substance that gave off a slight smell of burned cabbage. She raised her hand and said, "I'm not sure but I believe it's Polyjuice Potion sir. Polyjuice potion enables the drinker to take on the physical form of any other human being for one hour and one hour only. If the drinker in question wishes to stay in that form for any extended period of time he or she must drink the potion every hour. This however, is not easy to do as the potion takes about two months to brew." she lowered her hand not sure if she was correct or not.

"With Felix Felicis I don't think so. I believe this is the draght of living death." L.C said disagreeing with the other girl.

Correct! Ten points to Ravenclaw! Now Lauretta, that is Felix Felicis, but Draught of living death is in here also. Can you tell me where?" He asked gazing at her with a small smile.
