Novella caught the tail end of Thom's glare and Loiosh's red-copper hatred flared in her head but they would not let her remember just then. Gathering up her familiars, one on each shoulder, she left, walking quickly back to the castle. She would get some sleep, and then maybe this would all make sense.

Keifer nodded mekely. "Goodnight, sir..." he said, unhappy. Rubbing his wounds, he made his way into the castle.
Thom hitched the fish tank up under his arm, and turned to scurry off. He then remembered the bear cubs. Taking a looking at Moncreiff, he decided he would retrieve them later, along with the remains of his Comet Two Sixty.
Without a word to anyone, he slouched off into the castle.

Lisa felt her insides squirm with relief as she rubbed her eyes, noticing she could see much more clearly than before. She let out a deep breath before pausing in all her actions. Turning slowly toward the Nurse, she raised a hand to touch one of her closed eyes.
"Purple?" They slowly opened.
It wasn't anything like the crescent shape Thom carried, but she decided to claim the purple eyes as her very first warscar.
Feeling much more elated then before, she smiled up at the Professor almost excited about class. The last one certainly proved to be interesting. Then, placing her wand back in her robes, she followed the others back to the castle.

Algernon watched as the students left one by one, the insane nurse following behind them humming what she seemed to believe was a moral-building war song. Once they were all inside the castle, Algernon turned to look out onto the field. Rainer stood at the center, far from the lake, his eyes turned to stare into the forest. Algernon swallowed hard and tried to will himself to approach.

Rainer does not feel well and it is snowing at the wrong time of year. Erich is, of course, watching and Rainer can't think to do anything about it. The transfigured cadillac starts up when he thinks about it and he drives it in slow circles from where he stands, the bear cubs running to avoid it before settling nearby. Their gazes are watchful and knowing. He has more power than he knows what to do with.
Rainer makes the debris rise and circle too.

Apronia watches the other two professors from beneath the eaves of her hut. Some kind of tension crackles between them, as ever, and she attempts to puzzle it out with no success.
The dark figure at her side places a hand on her shoulder. "Aren't I enough?" he asks softly. She follows his eyes to Rainer, and turns back to nibble one of his fingers gently.
"Of course," she replies, voice matchingly gentle. "There's just...something about him. Something I feel I should know..."

Moments pass and it does not stop snowing. Eventually Algernon takes the few steps nessisary to reach Rainer and he wants to touch him but he does not.
There are shoulders and blades and jutting backs in his fantasys and Rainer is looking up at him and hurting him and this is what he has always wanted anyway, to stand near him in the snow and wish that he could hate.
I hate you. I do.

"So...which is it?" Rainer does not turn but he laughs, low and disquieting in the stunned silence of the blasted lawn. Drifts of snow collect on him. This is his decision, also. "Are you afraid of me? Disgusted? I could ask him to look for me, I suppose..." Rainer trails off, turning sharply towards the sound of birds tearing in to the cloud cover. He does not know this. Those senses are losing ground and Rainer is swimming in that.
Was Erich always that funny when they were alive? Rainer realizes he cannot fix that answer down.

"Ask him, then, and make him tell me too."
He does not mean that and hopes Rainer knows. There's bitterness but it might not be enough. Algernon isn't sure but Erich must still be in the air around them even if he isn't whispering.
"I'm not afraid." A lie.
"Not disgusted." A lie.
"I don't know what I want to do." Another lie.
"Please..."
Algernon does not know what he is asking for but there must be something Rainer is willing to give and at this point he will take anything.

All of the above, mein freund, but what he really wants to do is roll you around in a pile of hay and show you who the superior wizard is. Is that not darling?
Though Erich says it to both of them, Algernon is the only one who can hear.

Algernon blushes horribly despite himself, and drops his eyes to a slowly rotating bottle of shampoo, the main ingredient to which, as the lable proudly pronounces, is donkey placenta. He does not know if Erich's words reached Rainer as well, but he does not want either of them to know that he would not be altogether adverse to the idea, even though he's sure that much is already obvious.

Rainer cannot read minds but he will have to make do. He feels so small against the rage of his magic that still drips from him like hot water from a tape. It wants to rampage, to explore the space out there. Big thoughtless powers just waiting to see what kinds of messes there are to be made, what restorations possible. He feels like a war, something without answers and too many guns. He feels like a war; he collapses.
"We cannot leave the animals," he says, gesturing toward the transfigured bear cubs. "It is not just to leave something like them to fend for themselves, they did not ask to be brought in to this." He rises to his knees, turning toward Algernon, his eyes veined and red. "You cannot always help what you are born in to." Rainer cannot read minds and he cannot be sure, but he will have to trust Algernon anyway.

Algernon says nothing, but he points his wand toward the smaller of the cubs, casting a quick drying spell and smiling when its shivering stops. He glances up at Rainer, searching for some form of approval before his shame comes back and he will no longer meet even blood-red eyes. If that was an almost apology, Algernon will have to accept it, although he knows he does not merit one. It is something. That will have to be enough.

Rainer turns toward the school. He will not attend to the debris and he expects people will come to scavenge before the term is out. The various transformations are curiously strong and will, he believes at least, contain the lethifolds sealed inside. This isn't his problem anymore and he wonders why there was any sense of urgency to begin with. The bear cubs begin to follow him and Rainer eyes Algernon warily as he shuffles past. The car he had started shudders to a stop, still warm and at distance.

He's a chilly one, don't you think? Erich appears in front of Algernon, hands on his hips and smiling since his mouth does not need to move. His thoughts have already secured Algernon's responses; he will not call out after Rainer. Erich's stride does not break as he makes his way towards the stricken professor. I can assure you that he has his uses. Let's go for a walk shall we?
Algernon's legs are already moving.
