Girty cringed as they got closer to the lake, she knew what was coming. "It is important. It is one of my first and worst memories." She tried to breathe calmly as they got closer.

Faye frowned in concern. "Be brave, Girty - it's only a memory. It cannot harm you physically."
They landed on the ground now, and everything suddenly felt very real. The grass beneath their feet was rough and damp, and the sounds of birds were twittering occassionally from all sides. "I can't see where your memory is, Girty. Are you a child?" she asked, searching for people, as they hadn't seemed to have materalised yet.

Girty nodded her head as she tried to step as far back from the lake as she could. "A two year old me will be coming around soon with my mum, we will sit on that bend and have a snack." Girty's hand started to tremble and her breathing increased as on the lake she saw the elegant white bird float on the water. "I want to go." She whispered.

Faye looked at her sternly. She felt guilty for it, but Faye could not let Girty leave when she had come so far. It was very rare that someone could come so far on their first try. She stood behind Girty and held her shoulders firmly. "Don't fret, Girty. This is only a memory - confront it. This is your one chance to beat it!" she said feverishly. "You will never have this moment again!"
A woman and child appeared now, transparent and silently. As they approached they became more solid...

Girty closed her eyes to try and regain her strength. When she slowly opened them she saw a young version of herself walk into her memory. She took a deep breath and looked down lifting up her trouser leg on her left leg. She looked at the scare and then back towards the memories. "OK. What I'm i meant to do professor?"

Faye eased her hold on Girty. It was clear the Hufflepuff was not going to run. "You are to pretend that you are back in this time, Girty, not as yourself - the girl there - but as a witness. Imagine that you are merely watching what is happening to you, a stranger on the street. From a different perspective you will see the true situation, and not as a terrified child. Whatever this memory, it is not so bad, I promise you..."
Faye watched unblinking. Girty was strong for doing this.

Girty nodded and walked closer to the child and its mother. She sat down on the ground watching as the little Girty waved her legs in the air as she sat on the bench. A smile appeared on Girtys face as she watched herself, it was strange but not unusual. Then out the corner of her eye she saw the swan come closer, her body tensed a little but she thought about what the professor had said. Then as the little child got her snack bar the swan came out of the water. For no reason Girty drew her wand almost to protect herself and the little Girty.

Faye grabbed Girty's wrist, holding it down at her side. "That is no use here. No magic with a wand can work." she warned.
The swan approached Girty, it's head tilting from side to side as it stopped a few feet away, its eyes cautious. The younger Girty looked at it and laughed, smiling. She pointed at it with the bar of chocolate in her hand, desperately telling her mother to look at the pretty swan.
Faye frowned as the swan moved forward, it's long flexible neck quickly reaching out for the bar. Young Girty screeched in protest, causing the swan to hiss and unfold it's wings threateningly. "Oh!" Faye cried without meaning to as the swan lashed out, its sharp bill cashing young Girty's leg as she tried to move from the bench. "Oh, Girty, that must have really upset you..." she said sympathetically.

Girty cringed as she saw the swan lunge in at little Girty. Tears filled her eyes and she turned and looked at the professor. "Why do you think i did not want to be here." She breathed in deeply and looked at the other ducks on the lake.

Faye felt awful. "These kinds of memories are always hard, Girty - but didn't you see? You faced in it your own mind. Usually the trauma of a mind in these circustances forces the thinker to flee. You stayed - you're mind endured." she smiled proudly. "Twenty points for that! A young mind such as yours should not have been able to do that, but it did..."
Darkness was falling over them now, and the coldness returned. "You seem to be coming to terms with this memory." Faye said. "I can see now why you don't want to be a swan."
They began to float through the blackness again.

Girty giggled as she remembered there past conversation. As she saw the image fade into blackness again. They floated for a while before bright colors started to flash in front of them. Girty winced and looked around trying to see thought the bright light. "I can not believe it." She shouted proudly. "It has brought me here"
As it became more clear the sound of the sea could be heard, the softness of the sand reached there feet. Girty broke into a run and started to dance around on the sand.

Faye landed swiftly, her robes billowing about her knees in the salty air. She laughed when she saw how excited Girty was. "Where are we? It's lovely," she said, running towards the waves.

"You will not believe it is i told you." She laughed as she hopped around on one foot. The sun was beating down and created a glow off the sea. "We are in Wales. It is the best family holiday we have every had. It was straight after i found out i was going to Hogwarts, my brother had just passed his finals. We came in a tent and loved every minute of it."
As she spoke a more child like Girty ran past with a kite being chased by her brother. Her mother and father sat on the sand laughing as they watched there children. The older Girty turned around to look at Vedette. "Why has my mind shown the two extremes to me?"

"Everthing in between in so mild and neutral. Your mind remembers it's most emotional moments, so much so that nothing in between matters." she explained, standing next to Girty's past-parents. She looked at the father and the mother. They were holding hand, smiling and laughing. She felt sad suddenly.
"This appearing in the Void is signifiant. Two memories in your first session is unbelieveable, I must admit. We should look around..." Faye left the parents and began to walk towards the dunes at the top of the beach.

Girty noticed the Direction in which Vedette was walking in and ran after her. As she overtook her she spun around walked backwards so she could talk to the professor. "I can remember these dunes. Me and my brother found this great little flat plain with this ditch in the middle which collects water. We used to lie on the grass and watch the birds."
She stopped and looked back over towards her family. She missed them when she was away but then again at school she had her good friends.
As faced the sand dunes and picked up the pace. "And thank you professor. This has really helped me. i feel.....I feel like a can do anything." She smiled up at the teacher and walked off in hunt for the mini lake.
