Jac sat down on a lush patch of grass and stared out over the lake. The season was rapidly changing and she was trying to keep as much of the present season alive in her mind as possible. She did not like the winter much; the cold did not agree with her sense of sensibility.
Her hair was wavy today and glimmered dark purple in the sunlight. Her eyes were a shining emerald green and her cheeks were covered with freckles. Her moods were always reflected in her hair face and specifically her eyes so anyone who knew Jac, knew she wasn't having the greatest of days.
She was upset about something but even she was not truly sure what. She was sitting there thinking of the rowdy meeting her family had had in the Three Broomsticks, poor Rosmerta was worked extra hard that day. But even having seen her family, which usually made her smile extra wide, had not improved her mood. Her brother was getting married, that was supposed to be wonderful, but nothing could lift her spirits.
She could not have picked a better day then this; the sun was shining, there was a slight wind that was blowing and the sound of a waves lapping on the sand was soothing. Jac pulled her knees to her chest and rapped her arms around them. She rested her chin on her arm and watched the waves roll in noisily.

Girty walked down toward the lake and breathed in letting the fresh air fill her lungs. She closed her eyes and walked toward the lake. Girty then saw a figure. She moved closer and saw someone with dark purple hair. Girty went closer and noticed who it was. "Is this patch of grass taken?" She asked gently as she stood next to Jac.

Jac lifted her head slightly and saw Girty standing near by. She shook her head. "Help yourself," she said softly putting her chin back on her crossed arms again. She didn't look at Girty again. She did not mind the company but didn't fell compelled to take the conversation any farther.

Girty blinked slowly. This was unlike Jac. She only knew her a bit but still. Girty looked out over the lack for a bit before looking back at Jac. "Sorry to bother you. If you want me to leave i shall. You just seemed alone and well i always think if one does not mean to be alone then someone should be there for them"

Jac didn't look at Girty. Her grey eyes were glistening with tears and she did not want Girty to see it. "I don't mind," she said slowly, "it's just a thing I'm going through so, please, stay if you wish."
Jac ran a hand over her eyes, wiping away the tears then ran her fingers through her limp hair trying not to look obvious. She sniffed and coughed. "Having a good day?" Jac asked glancing at Girty and trying to act normal.

Girty looked more closely at Jac. She knew things were not the perfect in her life but thought it best to avoid it is she wished too. "Well today as been very easy. I woke up had breakfast, went to the library. Had lunch and came here." Girty smiled.
Girty could hear the slight sniffing from Jac. She went into her pocket and pulled out a pack of tissues. "Here" Girty whispered gently holding out the tissues.

"Thanks!" Jac took the tissue and blew her nose. "It's the grass," Jac explained. She looked out over the lake and sniffed even though she had just blowen her nose. She knew Girty knew something was up but she did not care.

Girty smiled at Jac. "Hay fever.I have that hate it. I always carry tablets with me though in case it hits." Girty dug around in her pockets, she stuck her tongue out as she went from robe pockets to trouser pockets. "Got it!" She pulled out a small box with few tablets inside. "Would you like on?"
She thought she best offer. Girty knew it was not the real reason why Jac was sniffing but she dared not ask.

Jac shook her head. "No thanks!" she said, "I'll survive!" She shot Girty a smile, trying to say that she was alright but she was not sure if she had said all that.
She stretched her legs out in front of her, crossing them, and leaned back, leaning on her arms. "Lovely day," Jac said, chattily. Change the subject! Clever move! she thought. She smiled again, more convincingly this time.

Girty laughed when Jac spread out on the grass. "Yes it is a nice day. I love this time of year, you still get the warm sun but the cold winter wind is coming in." She smiled and ripped up some grass and held it in her hand. she pressed it tightly in her hand before opening it up and letting it fly away. "The grass is lush, refreshed for the heat of summer" she let out a huge sigh and looked out to the lake.

Jac watched the blades of grass fly away. "Hmmm," she mumbled. She once again began thinking about her stupid family and their stupid not talking to her. She hated it when they kept her in the dark and they always did.
She thought about when she had gotten her letters. The confusion and anger welled up inside of her. Her hair turned a raging red. She sat up straighter and tried to hide her anger.

Girty looked over at Jac as she sat up. Her hair was red....with anger. Girty was not that stupid. She could tell when things were up, the hair also did help.
"Now are you going to tell me what is up or I'm i going to have to use this truth potion." She pulled a small bottle from her robes and held it up to the sun. In side the glass you could see a think liquid moving inside. It was really Canadian treacle inside as Girty liked the odd mouthful here are there but it also looked quite authentic from a distance. Girty turned and looked at Jac. "What will it be?"

Jac didn't look at Girty as she said, "potion might be easier!" She gazed out over the lake and after a long pause said with much resentment, "my family think I know everything so they don't tell me anything. I'm always in the dark, never knowing which ways up, and they can't understand why I'm always asking what's going on. They think I'm joking!"
She looked at Girty, revealing bright red cheeks and green eyes. "I know I'm being childish but that's just the way it is." She looked back over the lake and concentrated on getting her hair and face under control.

Girty offered a week smile at Jac and nodded. She had never really had a big family so everything was small and really carefree. She then looked back over the lake trying to think of some sensible words to say. she thought as hard as she could and ran her hand through her hair. "Your not being childish but I have never been in this situation so i do not know what could be done....I really do not know."
Girty felt bad not being able to help a friend and she still thought hard about what could be done

Jac smiled. It was unfair of her to ask so much of Girty who obviously knew so little of the politics of a big family. But now having gotten everything of her chest she felt much better. She turned her torso, holding her knees with a hand, and faced Girty. With her other hand she flicked her chestnut brown hair over her shoulder.
"I'm really sorry to have put all this on you, you know," Jac said, "but I do feel better. Thank you!" She relaxed and wrapped her arms around her knees again. She began to speak again, absent mindedly almost, and her hair turned an energetic orange. "It helps talking about things, don't you think? Getting things off your chest really makes you feel so much better and happier. Lighter almost, don't you think?"
