Girty looked at Jac as she spoke. “Do not worry about it. This may sound mean but it has no affect on me. I’m not emotionally involved in it so what ever is said can not hurt me. I’m just glad that it has helped. I’m always here to help, a useful ear to talk into.” Girty offered a smile at Jac before looking out over the lake.
“I think it helps as it is no longer locked up inside yourself. Even though after telling someone else it has not changed anything that has or will happen it still relives the mind and soul to know that the fear and worry is no longer boiling inside of you.” She then once again looked at Jac. “But then what are friends for.” Girty started to giggle. She had only know Jac for a while but yet the time they spent together over the holiday seemed to have connected them.

Jac smiled confidently at Girty and she nodded. "Indeed," she said, her hair getting messy and brown. She giggled with Girty. There seemed to be an odd connection between the two of them, ever since they met before the quidditch match. Odd, was the word she would use and it seemed to fit. They had no apparent connection or anything in common but still, every time they got together, they seemed to have something to talk about. Odd ... definitely.
Jac smiled and put her chin on her folded arms, staring out over the calm waters. "Not heard much about the squid lately." Jac observed, "have you? It's usually almost eaten at least eleven students by this time of the term."

Girty giggled away with Jac and pulled up some of the grass around her and held it tight in her hand. "Maybe the squid is dead?" Girty questioned not actually thinking about the scale of a giant squid dying. She looked over at Jac and giggled. "Maybe we should throw a first year into the lake and see."

Jac smiled wickedly at Girty. "Maybe I should throw you in," she teased, "might be more appetizing then a boney firsties." She cackled wickedly and rubbed her hands together maniacally. Her hair shot orange as she flopped down onto the grass giggling at her own silliness. "You know I'm just kidding!" she sighed.

Girty was rather scared at first when Jac threatened to feed her to the squid. She coward slightly over wrapping her arms around her knees. But when Jac started to giggle and say she was joking Girty let out an awkward sigh of relief. She was being teased by at 7th year again.
“I thought you were being serious then.” She complained as she let go of her knees. “ It would not be the first time a 7th year has threatened to do that.” She let out a small laugh and looked worryingly over toward the lake.

Jac laughed awkwardly. "I'm sorry!" she said slowly, "I didn't mean to ... I would never ... I'm sorry!" She had nothing else to say. She had obviously trodden on an old wound and opened it up wide. There was nothing she could do to close it now. She had royally stuck her foot in it this time. "I didn't really mean it ... it was just a joke."

Girty looked over at Jac with her mouth hanging slightly open. then her eyes grew wide and a laugh crept out. "You really are pathetic when you apologise." Girty giggled as she looked back to the lake. "It is no problem..just some idiots were being....well idiots and i was in my second year." She smiled more and looked over at Jac. "You have nothing to be sorry about."

Jac smiled and nodded. "I know what you mean," she admitted, "when I was in my first year, people always teased me 'cause of my ... abilities. That was not fun!" She shook her head, and laughed, "life is difficult when your younger!"
She looked at the lake, " but she's always here ... to hear what isn't said." She nodded towards the lake. When she was younger and feeling out of place, she would go down to the lake and sit and stare out for hours till she felt better.

Girty nodded her head in agreement with Jac. "Most people seem to do that. They come and sit down and look over the Lake dreaming about the future or worrying about the past." She looked around and saw other student rushing around busy with there own personal task.
"So many people come to this school and I can only name a handful." she gave a small smile.

Jac nodded and gazed up at the large expanse of building that made up her school. "No kidding!" she said, her green eyes going wide just thinking about it. "This school is huge, but I'm pretty good with faces (names? Never!) But faces that, you know, you walk past everyday and sit near during meals, you start to remember them and making up stories for their lives: how they got to be in this school and where they would be if they never got their letters."
Jac looked at Girty and smiled, giggling slightly, "well, I mean, I do anyways. It's fun! You learn a lot that way and some days I actually go up to people and ... ask! That's the best way to do it!"

The water of the lake was slowly moving to and thro in the wind, sending Steve into a slowly day dream as he bobbed up and down on the water. His left eye would twitch open occasionally but shut again seconds latter as he noticed no objects were looming to close to him.
A large gust of wind blew form across the icy lake forcing Steve to float of course and he soon found himself in the weeds a the side of the lake. With a rather loud quack his black eyes flashed open and his little orange feet started to paddle as fast as they could under the water to propel him forward. After reaching the close shore line his small bead like eyes flew on two girls sitting by the lake.
He paddled steadily to keep in the same position and watched the two of them talk between themselves. Could they be plotting between themselves? Steve let out another loud quack and stretched his wings flapping them for a few seconds before settling back down spying on the two students.
