Thom had been stood at the edge of the room, leaning against the wall while twidling his wand in his fingers, watching the commotion boredly. He had never been able to understand why you were not allowed to attack another person - such as hitting - but hexing them so blood came out of every opening was fine. He glanced at the pairings, wondering if there was anyone free.

Jac nodded to the hufflepuff. She pulled out her wand and aimed it at his chest. "Expelliarmus," she said as clearly as she could manage. She had just spotted Thom out of the corner of her eye. As the spell hit Derek's chest she smiled sheepishly at Thom and began to fiddle with her wand.

Thom caught Jac's glance, and after a moments pause just looking at her, raised his hand in greeting and winked at her. 'Good spell, Jac. Pretty strong.' he complimented, wanting as Derek hit the floor. 'You do that often? Knock people off their feet?' he laughed.

"Great job Jac! Ten points to hufflepuff." Mandrake watched Derek pick himself off the floor. Derek how about you try it with Thom. All the newcomers make sure you try it, and then I will show you the next spell." Mandrake said glancing at each face in turn.
