(This thread is the morning after ‘The unimaginable’)
The room was silent, now that was different, there was ticking of the Grandfather clock in the corner, no sound of the distant chattering of the students in the school bellow. Slowly Dan opened his eyes expecting to be blinded by the light of the already opened curtains (Dia was a morning person and most of the time was up and dressed before Dan had even woken up) but the room was dark and looked nothing like his bed chamber in the castle. He was in the Hogshead.
The realisation hit him hard and it was like someone had flicked a switch in his mind and the memories of the night before was played out in front of him in fast forward. ’oh my’ he whispered to himself as he turned his head to look down at the woman sleeping next to him. Vicky was peacefully asleep next to him with his arm rather uncomfortably underneath her slowly cutting off the blood supply to his hand. Wiggling fingers just to make sure they still worked Dan tried to think of a way of getting out of this situation but then it was not like he could really run away…he was her boss after all. ‘Maybe if I…’
With a tug of his arm Dan tried to free himself, although he had expected it to be a lot tougher then it was and after miss calculating how close he was to the edge of the bed Dan Hubbles ended up in a heap on the floor. The loud thud that seemed to echo around the room and really did not help the throbbing in his head due to the vast amounts of alcohol that had been drunk the night before. Maybe he should give up drinking again.

Even in sleep she dreamed of Dan. Everything that had happened once they had entered room 7 played over and over in her mind. Every touch, every kiss, every sensation. Vicky had never had a more peaceful night sleep, nor had she ever smiled so much while resting. The thought of waking up and having it all end would be sad...
All too soon she could feel her eyes starting to slip open for a moment she had forgotten where she was her dreams of the night before slipping away from her, the activities of the night before a bit blurry thanks to the hangover that loomed. Her head was starting to pound when her eyes suddenly opened wide. Staring around she tried to remember where she was and then it all came back to her. She and Daniel had...."Oh crap" she whispered.
Suddenly images flooded her mind, the flirting, their kissing, her following him upstairs and each and everything that happened after they reached the room she was now in. She was laying with her head on his arm. That had to be uncomfortable, she was going to move it when suddenly it got pulled away from her. Then boom something hit the floor really hard. Not remembering she way laying there in the buff Vicky quickly turned to see Dan on the floor.
"In that much of a hurry to get away from me Hubble?"

“Vicky!” Dan’s voice went a little high pitched as he quickly stumbled up onto his feet and looked over at the History of magic professor who was, ‘oh lord’, Dan’s cheeks turned a light shade of pink and as he tried to divert his gave away from the naked Vicky he noticed that he too was just standing in the middle of the room wearing nothing but his left sock. Panic struck Dan began to look nervously around to try and spot his boxer shorts, which were lying next to his trousers. Quickly dashing over towards them he scooped them up and hurriedly put them on, before even letting himself glance over at Vicky once again.
“I…er…morning!” he gave Vicky a small smile as his hand nervously ran through his hair making it stand up more on end then normal. “D-did you have a nice sleep?”
It took a lot for the man not to groan out loud, he could not believe he had just said that. In fact he could not believe that yet again he was standing in this situation, another one night stand and another time he had cheated on Dia. But this time was different, he had not been so bladdered the night before that he did not know what he was doing, he did and the funny thing was he was not feeling all to guilty about it. The person he was feeling sorry for the most out of this situation was Vicky and how he had played her.
Dan slowly walked towards the king size bed where which they had shared the night before and gently sat down on the edge. With a deep breath Dan turned to look at Vicky and simply shrugged his shoulders. “I am sorry for bringing you into the middle of all this.”

Her womans intuition was kicking in and she knew that things were different now. She knew the signs all too well. Vicky should have expected this it's what you normally got when a man slept with you on a one night stand basis. He enjoyed himself but after it was all over and the sun rose up in the sky he was pretty much done with you. That's the way this felt to her. The woman had waited so long for this, gotten it and now that was it. She was so foolish to think this would be any different because it happened with Dan, but he was a guy just like all the rest, one with a horrible reputation when it came to women. She got what she had coming to her for doing what she had done.
He was acting odd stuttering asking her silly questions like did she sleep well. Everything she was feeling before gave way to make room for the new feeling the feeling of humiliation. Vicky had practically gotten down on hands and knees to be with him. They were together and had the most amazing night and now he was trying to find a way to talk to her. Feeling the need to run and get out of there Vicky started trying to look for her clothes. After arriving in the room things sort of got tossed around and now she was wishing she spend time folding and putting things neatly away.
She allowed her wants and needs to cloud her judgment and now she was suffering the consequences soon she would have to take the walk of shame despite the bar not being open yet. Was it all worth it. Dammit! Yes it was he was amazing but he would never know it, just as he would not know of her feelings now.
"No sweat Dan you got what you want I got what I wanted. You didn't put me in the middle of anything since no one needs to know about this. we are adults after all I'm sure we can conduct ourselves as such."
With each word she hated herself more and more but she would be damned if she ever let it show. Standing up letting the sheet slip off her she got off the bed trying to look as dignified as possible while standing there stark naked. Trying to look for her clothes she maneuvered herself around Dan trying not to look at him.

“Yeah.” Dan agreed as he looked down at his clasped hands, the small golden ring on his left hand glinted in the small slit of sunlight that came through the curtains. A small stab of guilt hit him there and then as he perched on the edge of the bed, his heart racing, mouth bone dry and mind spinning. It was not like he could do anything about it now, that act had been done and it was not like he could summon a time turner out from thin air and stop himself from spending the night with Vicky, they would just have to be mature about this.
There was a sound behind him and Dan automatically turned around to see what it was only to blush and quickly turn his head away looking back down to his hands. Swallowing hard Dan took a deep breath to try and help combat the blushes and slowly raised his head once again. He could not let this one, slip up affect the entire working relationship them had, if anything it would only rouse suspicion.
“I think we are sensible enough to…to not mention this.” He watched Vicky move around the room slowly picking up her clothing. He felt like he was trying to sign up a contract to hold Vicky to silence, he knew she was sensible enough, in fact she would be more mature then he ever would be, but to calm his own heart he had to. “Not that I think this was a mistake or anything, I er…I mean I had fun, I am guessing you did.”
A small smile spread across Dan’s face, the mans conceited arrogance showing through as even though moments before he felt guilt he could not help but look at the history of magic professor and think, just maybe, that he would do this again. No, he could not think that, he loved Dia, he was married, he did not need this…but he wanted to.

Anger was bubbling up inside of her. Her eyes flashed red but no one would ever notice. She had no reason to be pissed of course, she went right along with everything that happened, begged for it even. The woman wanted it so much she forgot common sense. What man was going to resist something that was so willingly given. It was simple like two plus two equals four. Dan would have backed off if Vicky had said no, she could have made if hard for him but her damn desire made her say yes and now here they were.
He was more concerned about her not mentioning things then how she was feeling right now. The fact that she expected any different caused another wave of anger to shoot through her. Taking a few deep breaths she managed to pick up her last article of clothing and began to dress as fast as possible not really wanting to look at him.
"You know if you like I can sign an oath in blood stating that I will never tell a soul what happened." Somehow she managed to keep the bitterness out of her voice as she slipped her bra on. Then her underwear. She grabbed her pants about to put one leg in just as he said that he had a good time and guessed she did too. Her whole body froze, she stopped what she was doing momentarily to take it in. He really asked that didn't he.
The man was arrogant. Could he even be asking her this now and could she even be thinking YES! It was the best she ever had. As much as she wanted to say no her smile betrayed her as she turned her head to look at him over her shoulder and eyed him coyly. "Damn you Hubbles, I had more than a good time it was freaking amazing." She already wanted to feel him again, but that wasn't going to happen it couldn't happen. Feeling so conflicted wasn't enjoyable for her so this could only happen once.

After a night of little sleep and some rather energy sapping activities Dan was not really in the mood to deal with comments such as the one Vicky had just offered him. But he bite his tongue to stop an irate comment being thrown back. He had had such a fun night he did not want for it all to turn nasty in the last few moments, if they were going to keep this hidden they could not afford to have a falling out, it would only arouse suspicion. But this wave of slight frustration soon past seeing as Vicky had answered his question to perfection.
‘Freaking Amazing’ now that was one that Dan had heard quite a few times, his skills in this particular department was on that he thought very highly of, mainly because over the years many people had made similar comments to that of Vicky’s. The cheeky smile remained on the man’s face as he thought on this matter a bit more, the ‘old’ Dan Hubbles was loving this, the part of him that still kept track with the amount of women he had spent the night with, the number of notches on his bed post and the possible bragging rights it gave him in the pub. It had been a while since this side of him had last been out in the open; his love for Dia had overcome these urges and stopped him from acting like a complete twat.
Still grinning like a child on Christmas morning Dan stood up and walked steadily over towards Vicky. He would look back at this moment in days to come and wonder what on earth had come over him, but there and then the only thing that seemed to make sense was to wrap his arms around Vicky’s waste pulling her closer to him, then lowering his head and kissing her once again. The kiss did not portray as much passion as they had done the night before; instead it was almost offering that tiny bit of tenderness, mutual attraction and pity. Dan knew that he was using Vicky, and although it was not the first time that he had done such a thing (there would be quite a back catalogue of women on that account) he could not help but feel the tiniest bit sorry for Vicky.
As he broke away he fixed his eyes upon hers, a coy smile filling his face as or the few seconds that they stood like this, her violet eyes upon his cool blue ones he could not feel any guilt, instead the only thought that passed his mind soon slipped out of his lips and he could not help but feel it was something that Vicky herself might have questioned so many times.
“If I had kissed you in the forest that day everything could have been so different.”

At her age she should know better than to behave so irresponsibly. of course this was way beyond irresponsible it was downright foolish but if given another chance to do the same she would take it because he was everything she thought he would be and then some. To be honest it was the best she had in so long such a shame he was wasting himself being a one woman man. The thought made her feel a pang of guilt as she thought of Dia and how hurt she would be if she knew. Amazing how she didn't feel more bad about it, the feeling seemed to come and go possibly because inside she was warring with herself about having what she's always wanted and feeling bad for taking what she wanted.
Having turned her back to him again Vicky never really hear him come up to her then he was right there his hands around her waist and his mouth coming toward hers again. Just like before she couldn't find it in herself to say stop. She was fixated on the man and now he knew it. Of course this didn't bode well for her actually made her a bit vulnerable like now. The kiss held little passion but was very sweet her arms wrapped around his neck as she moved in just a bit closer. The heat his body created caused her to shiver only a little.
When he moved back it was a little bit of a relief because he already caused her to want him again. Her eyes surveying the bed where he took her to places no one ever had. A slight blush crept up to her cheeks at the thought.
That soon stopped when Dan asked the one question Vicky asked herself a thousand times before. It plagued her thoughts at inopportune moments but to have it brought out into the open that way had her wanting to take cover somewhere. Violet eyes stared into blue and the ability to lie leaving her she answered from the heart, "I like to think if it had happened then we wouldn't be in some motel room, I would be in our room and what happened last night would have happened in our bed. I would be wearing your ring now. That's what I believe would have happened." Saying the words out loud for the first time did nothing to make her feel better as she looked down at the ground now too ashamed to look Dan in the face.

It was almost heart breaking to be standing there with Vicky, his arms wrapped around her, he could still taste her on his lips but it was the look of honesty in her eyes making Dan know that every single word she spoke was heartfelt and as she looked down to the floor all he wanted to do was told her tighter, kiss her lightly on the top of her head and tell her it would all be ok. But instead Dan remind where he was, looking more like a man who’s dance partner no longer wanted to jive with him.
“Hmm, maybe.” Dan mused as he carried on looking at Vicky. Even though she had dropt her head to stare at the floor, a small smile playing across his features and raising his left hand he gently placed it under her chin and raised it upwards so that he could look her in the eye once more. “It is nothing to be ashamed about Vicky. I am sure if circumstances had been different then maybe…”He broke off, the thought of there being ‘another’ Mrs Dan Hubbles was one that he did not want to linger on for long, he loved Dia so much but in true Dan fashion his tongue ran away with itself. “But then if you were wearing my ring then I might be standing in this hotel room with my arms wrapped around a beautiful astronomy professor instead of the gorgeous you.”
One day Dan would learn when to keep his mouth shut, he would learn to have the common sense to think twice before he spoke and today would just have to be one of those days when he learnt his lesson, that little bit of experience to guide him in the future. With a deep sigh Dan gave a passing look over at the small clock that sat of the bedside cabinet, they would be starting to serve Breakfast in the Great Hall now, where he should be with Dia and although he needed to keep appearances up he just wanted to flop back on the bed and hold Vicky like he had done the night before.
“I have not been in the Great Hall with a hangover in ages.” He winced slightly at the memory of the days when he used to stubble in directly from the pub, alcohol still pumping through his veins. “This is going to be a hard one to explain.”

Somehow Dan changed a bit. He wasn't acting like a man who was desperate to get her out of the room. No instead he was there still holding her. Tilting up her chin Vicky's heart melted just a little stupid yes but nothing she had done since last night could be construed as smart.
Things were good she felt a little better ready to face whatever though in typical male fashion Dan couldn't just quit while he was ahead, instead he opted to elaborate on what might have happened if he had chosen her instead of Dia. Reminding her that he might be in this very room on this very night with Dia. No matter what it all seemed to come back to her. That is where his heart truly lie no matter what transpired between them.
Vicky was just a distraction. something for him to loose himself in for a few hours until he could return to his normal life. Time and time again she let herself forget this simply because she hoped that it might mean something more. Delusions never did anyone good.
The time for sweet was over. They had lives to get back to he was itching to be with his wife and Vicky needed to, well she had no idea what she was going to do with herself now. The idea of going to the Great Hall made her stomach ache. "I'm sure you'll handle it just fine." Trying to stuff her feelings Vicky plastered on that fake smile. "I guess we should get going right" she moved away from him so she could finish dressing or just because she hated being this close.

This was not a proud moment for Dan and as Vicky moved away from him to finish getting dressed a small part of him could not help but feel slightly rejected. His hands dropt limply by his side as he stood in the middle of the bed chamber in his boxer shorts, his mind racing with billions of thoughts and not a single one in any way, shape or form was helpful. His love and loyalty to Dia was compelling him to run out of the Hogshead at that very moment, sprint up to the castle and wrap his arms tightly around his wife to never let her go again. But then there was this other side of him that felt guilty for everything he was putting Vicky through, now he knew the truth everything seemed to click and he hated the thought that he caused so much pain to someone he cared about.
With a reluctant sigh Dan leaned against a post from the four poster bed in the room, he just simply watched Vicky for a moment struggling silently with his raging internal battle. “Vicky I…” his confidence vanished on him after a few more moments of organising his thoughts he tried once again. “Vicky I want to spend more time with you and not just like…like that.” He was gesturing to the bed behind him. “You know, I want to…to talk, guilt free fun.”
A small smile appeared across his rouged features once again as his gaze continued to follow Vicky as she scampered around the room. Sebastian had always told him never to sleep with people that you were friends with as things would never be the same and this was the perfect example. Here was Dan trying to be friendly and although it could have been arguably compelled by pity he was willing to make the effort if anything to bring that smile to Vicky’s face once again.
“This weekend, we could go somewhere. Somewhere a bit sophisticated then the Hogshead that is.”

Victoria began to feel claustrophobic inside the room with Dan. All these feelings and emotions rose over her like waves hitting the shore. She started to feel as if she were about to stop breathing from the weight of them all. Last night her only desire had been to get wasted have an interesting drunken conversation with Warren about nothing in particular. Instead she got drunk and ended up in bed with her married boss and she wanted to do it again. Her parents would be so proud of their little girl if they could see her now scampering around the room trying to pick up her discarded clothes as she also tried to find her dignity.
It was a sad day for her indeed. At last she found her top with an almost mad dash she scooped it up and threw it on not caring that it was inside out. Now she just needed her shoes and she would be free to walk out of there and get back to her real life. Placing her shoes on her feet Vicky could turn the other cheek and start a whole new day trying to put last night out of her mind if she could.
Hope shined in her eyes at the last thought but the shine was quickly extinguished when Dan stated he wanted to spend more time with her. Every time she thought she was out he would somehow manage to pull her back in. What was he trying to do drive her insane or something. The more she tried to distance herself off from him the more he tried to get closer. Was he enjoying himself toying with her this way? Stringing her along, or was it pity that had him trying to show the softer side of Daniel Hubbles.
Neither choice made her feel very good. "How would that look us suddenly hanging out together alone. You didn't much have anything to do with me before why worry about it now." She wasn't trying to be difficult, or maybe she was, at the moment she had no real idea all she knew was spending more time with him would only lead to more trouble for her. "Don't worry about me Dan I'm a big girl and I can handle it." A lie if she ever heard it but what's one lie when you're trying to save face.

Dan could not help but feel the tiniest bit rejected when Vicky turned him down, that really had not been the answer he had been expecting. If it had not been a ‘Yes Dan I would love to spend more time with you’ then at worst maybe a ‘I have work to do this weekend, what about next week?’ Nope it was neither of them, here he was being faced with the hard honest truth and it truly had left a sour taste in his mouth. So as he leaned against the bed post stroking the stubble on his jaw Dan had to try and deal with, for one of the first times in his life, rejection.
“Yeah that’s…I, er…yeah I understand.” It was a hell of a lot for the man to get his head around. “I mean I was saying we need to be careful, so you’re right, scratch that idea, forget I mentioned it. You are an independent witch after all, you do not need me to…well be me.”
With weak smile he suddenly dawned on Dan that there was Vicky, fully dressed almost ready to leave the room and he was still standing there in his boxer shorts. He could not help but think about how ironic this whole situation was Vicky was the one who had been harbouring secret feelings for Dan for all these years yet she was the one ready to run out of the room trying to forget that any of this actually happened. Dan guessed that is was clearly the difference in their genders or maybe just their mind set he was used to this after all, he had done his fair share of running away from a one night stand.
Moving slowly he started to pick up his items of clothing trying to beat out a few of the creases in his trousers and on his shirt, if he was going to be walking back into Hogwarts wearing last nights clothes then the least he could do was try and make himself look a bit more presentable. It was only as he was doing up the belt on his trousers did he dare open his mouth once again.
“But you know that if you do want to er…see me again you only need to ask.” He shot her a hopeful smile. “Even if it is just for a quiet drink.”

All this time she had been trying to give him an easy out. Trying not to act like a clingy woman. She was trying to make it all about sex so that he wouldn't feel guilty but he didn't seem to want that. He kept sending her conflicting signals. Vicky stood there for moment completely confused and unsure of what to do. There was battle raging inside of her it always waged inside her when it came to Dan.
Trying to lie to herself about wanting to see him again wasn't working. She wanted it more than she cared to admit. Spending time with him, just being around him was something she had often wished for and here he was just offering it to her while she stupidly turned it down over and over.
He sounded not hurt but there was something and she felt bad. He was being sincere and she was throwing it back at him. Right then and there she made a decision she was going to let this play out however it was going to play out. If he wanted she would give. Feeling better now that she stopped trying to put the kibosh on her emotions she turned and walked back to him.
"I do want to see you again Dan anytime you want anywhere you want. Sort of your beck and call girl if you will." That was just the truth of the matter. She was smitten with him and the more she denied it the more miserable she felt. Why fight it, she was the other woman. With that she moved in and kissed him with gusto. He would know that she was finally giving into him.

Dan was slowly buttoning up his shirt when Vicky wondered back over towards him, at first he thought she was going to give him a hard slap around the face (previous experience had made him a little jumpy about this) although as her soft tones rang out in the room all traces of this fear fluttered away and his normal boyish grin appeared. With her standing so close Dan’s hands automatically wrapped themselves around her waist and as she kissed him he could sense her passion, it would have been rude had he not given it back as much as she was giving it to him.
Dan always thought that it would be strange to be kissing another woman after saying his vows to Dia less then a year ago, but then it had been such a part of his life before he guessed it was just like riding a bike. You never truly forget and the thrill and excitement is always there with the threat that at any moment you would fall tumbling to the ground.
Breaking away from the kiss Dan still held Vicky close, his hands had made there way up her back during their intimate moment and as he looked down upon her beautiful features he idly played with the end of her silky hair. “All righty then!” He could not help but grin. “How about we met at five in the broom cupboard.” He gave Vicky a cheeky wink and wondered if she had caught onto the fact he was only teasing, in past experience Dan had found out that the broomsticks merely just got in the way! “But honestly Vic I am here for you. So if you ever need someone do not be afraid to ask, I do not bite…well, not all the time.”
