All Richard could do was stand and watch as Erika walked across the grass towards one of the only sections that were covered by shade. The spring sun was warm and it was not helped by the school robes being black. Dropping down on his broom Richards feet finally touched the ground, the grass flattened under his feet and with a rather swift movement (for Richard anyway) he had dismounted the broom and was carrying it under his arm walking over towards Erika.
“Do not flatter yourself. I could easily walk away, I have plenty of work to do it is just you would be lonely without me.”
If Erika was going to play the ‘you need me card’ then Rich would throw it right back at her. It did seem to him anyway that she was falling for him, the winks, the smiles, the far of looks. Not that he thought a lot of himself he just was holding onto the hope that for once in his seven years at this castle he had actually found someone who did not see him as the geek in the library, the stuck up kid who had no friends. Maybe because they were both social outcasts was the reason they worked well together, they both knew what it was like to sit in the corner of a classroom knowing that half the class was avoiding you while the others were laughing at you.

Erika simply laughed. "Richard darling, being difficult is not very becoming of you." She shrugged, "Besides, what's the harm? I'm not going to bite you."

Richard gave a small laugh when Erika joked about how he was acting not suiting him. He knew it probably did not but the problem was he was enjoying it, he was being able to be someone he truly was not, and he had gone almost five minutes without a single stutter. It was refreshing, fun, different. However he feared this all may fail when Erika mentioned about biting him, he felt his throat tighten up and although he was convinced he had got over such a small thing he still had that feeling of doubt. But this had to be overcome and Rich needed to learn to trust Erika.
“Oh…well that is reassuring” he joked as he entered the shaded section dropping his broom on the floor and flopping on the grass next to where Erika was sitting. Richard started to pick stands of grass and twist them around in his fingers as he looked up at Erika.
“How many people have you actually sucked the blood out of? Or is it all just an act which you hide behind to stop yourself from forming any real relationships?”
It was a very deep and very personal question but Richard wanted to know for once he was actually interested and it was not out of fear of Erika actually biting his neck, he really wanted to know so he could work out how her mind worked.

Erika blinked, and looked down at the grass, "I...I don't know." she replied quetly twisting a stalk of grass around in her hand. And it was true, after her fifth kill, she had stopped keeping count. She sighed, "I need to feed soon though."

Rich pushed himself up into a sitting position and looked over at Erika, he knew he was putting her in an uneasy position, forcing her to admit that she killed people was always a touchy topic for anyone but yet still Richard was going to stick his nose into places where he should not go, but deep inside he needed to know.
“And when you feed you end up killing the person?”
He was trying to keep his voice clam and his any look of anxiety away from his face. The thought that Erika needed to feed again soon and she just befriend him did make part of him think twice about standing up and running back to the castle as fast as his legs would carry him, but instead he stayed where he was and moved onto a another strand of grass seeing as the last piece was now green mush.

Erika looked up. "I feel awful." she whispered, "But what can I do? If I don't feed, I'll die. I wish there was another way, but there isn't. None that I know of anyway."

Just as he had expected he was left in a very uncomfortable position and Richard felt so guilty for it. It was clear Erika did not enjoy killing unlike the normal portrait of vampires but then since when had Erika lived up to the fairytale image of vampires. Brushing the grass out of his hand Richard moved closer to Erika and wrapped his arm around her waste pulling her into a lose hug.
“I am sure we can think of something. My father always says that there is a way around everything and I am sure that together we can come up with something.”
Richard was not sure why he was so willing to help Erika out but even at one point he was willing to offer his own blood up, but the thought that she might end up killing him made sure that idea only floated around in his mind for a second or two. But what he had said held some truth because Rich had the belief there would be a away for Erika to get the blood she needs without anyone dying.

Erika smiled gently. "Thanks, I really appreciate it." she said, laying her head on Richard's shoulder. The young girl, looked around for a few minutes, and tried to muffle a yawn, but it was no use. The yawn escaped, and she chuckled sheepishly. "Sorry, I'm getting a bit sleepy." she admitted.

The sun was getting lower in the sky and the clouds were rolling in over the mountain side, nightfall would soon be upon them and the warmth of the day will pass to the bitter cold of night in Scotland. But Richard was happy to sit on this patch of grass with Erika until the stars came out. It was peaceful and gave him time to think about his school work and other aspects of life that since today only just seemed clear to him. It was not until Erika moved her head off his shoulder to look at him did he awake from his day dream and with what she said he could not help but laugh softly.
“I thought you were meant to be a creature of the night. The sun has not even set and you are tired.”
Sliding his arm from around her waste Richard looked over towards where the castle should be if the Quidditch pitch stands were not in the way. Maybe they should make there way back but the thought of sitting in the common room was not all too appealing after all that is why he had gone to the library in the first place.

Erika laughed. "What can I say? I'm not like most vampires. Hey, I'm not like most people." she gazed up at Richard thoughtfully, "Y'know, I just might let you have the honor of calling me Rikki. And trust me, that's an honor. Very few people can call me that, and get away with it."

Richard could not help but nod his head in agreement when Erika said she was not like most people. She had not said a truer thing that day, she was not normal and that is what Richard liked about her. But it was then her amber eyes fixed themselves upon him and it was a situation when Rich felt he had to look back at her.
“Oh really well then Rikki I am honoured. I must have done something well for you to give me such an honour.”
Rich shot her a small smile and wrapped his arm around Erika again. He rested his head against hers and gave a small sigh. He had woken up this morning to the sound of the other male Ravenclaws snoring knowing that he would be spending the day in the library as normal and studying by himself in the corner. But instead he was now sitting on the Quidditch pitch with his arm around an extremely attractive Gryffindor how he would love to see the other Ravenclaws faces now.

Rikki laughed softly, "I am very pleased to give you the honor Mr. Leons." she replied. Sighing as Richard wrapped his arms around, she looked up at him with a smile. "Do you think our meeting was chance, or fate?" she asked. Laying her head on his shoulder she looked around, the sun was begining to set, turning the sky into a gorgeous canvas of bright vibrant colors of red, gold, purple, and dusky pink. "I love sunsets. They're so pure, so gorgeous." she whispered.

Fate, there was an interesting topic. Richard was not the biggest believer in fate as he felt that life was merely made up from one persons choice which will then lead to another. It was Richards choice to get out of bed, his choice to go to the library, his choice to talk to the Gryffindor. At any point in the day he could have decided something that meant the day would not have ended like this.
“No I do not think it was fate, I think it was chance. Fate makes it seem like a person has no choice on the matter that a greater power controls my life and I do not like that.”
Rich was being honest and he looked down at Erika and wondered what she was thinking, if she believed in fate but it seemed she was to interested in the sunset and the many colours in the sky. However he had to agree, the sky was beautiful and the corniest, most cheesiest line came into his head and it felt like he had to say, Erika had almost set it up so he would say it.
“You’re gorgeous too.”

Rikki smiled, "I think it was chance as well. It doesn't seem likely that Fate would throw a headstrong, reckless, act-before-she-thinks Gryffindor who also just happens to be a vampire, and a thoughtful, sensitive, think-things-through Ravenclaw together!" Looking up at the sky, she almost missed what he said next, almost. "You're gorgeous too." If Rikki could've blushed she would have. Instead she ducked her head shyly and bit her lip trying to hide her pleased smile.

Erika had summed everything up perfectly, they were both complete opposites but yet here they were talking as if they had known each other for years. But as the old saying said ‘opposites attract’ and Richard was willing to agree with that statement. His quick thinking cancelled out Erika’s rash behaviour and her bravery cancelled out his fear. Together they made a good team even if their source of enjoyment came from teasing each other.
“I think you summed us up very nicely there, but it does make me worry that it was easy to do. Maybe I should try and be more complex, throw mood swings, be mean.”
Richard gave a soft chuckle at himself and looked down at Erika only to see that very uncharacteristically she seemed to be shy. This only made Richards smile grow wider and with his free hand he placed it under her chin and gently raised her head she he could gave into her eyes.
“Rikki I was not joking you are beautiful.”
