Ash titptoed slowly down the stairs, guitar in hand. Reaching the common room he went over to his favorite chair by the fire. Smiling he sat down and crossed his legs, pulling his guitar into his lap. He played a few chords to tune it, then pulled out his notebook. He sang as he wrote,
You make me feel out of my element like i'm walkin' on broken glass like my worlds spinnin' in slow motion and you're movin' too fast
Ash paused to think of a chorus. Suddenly he smiled and began scribling away. He wrote until he was satisfied. He looked at his work and smiled. It was perfect. Now to see how it sounded.
Were you right, was i wrong were you weak, was i strong, yeah both of us broken caught in the moment we lived and we loved and we hurt and we joked, yeah but the planets all aligned when you looked into my eyes and just like that the chemicals react the chemicals react
you make me feel out of my element like i'm drifting out to the sea like the tides pullin' me in deeper makin' it harder to breathe
we cannot deny, how we feel inside we cannot deny
were you right, was i wrong were you weak, was i strong, yeah both of us broken caught in the moment we lived and we loved and we hurt and we joked, yeah but the planets all aligned when you looked into my eyes and just like that the chemicals react the chemicals react
kaleidoscope of colors turning hopes on fire, sun is burning shining down on both of us don’t let us lose it (don’t let us lose it...)
were you right, was i wrong were you weak, was i strong, yeah both of us broken caught in the moment we lived and we loved and we hurt and we joked, yeah
we lived we loved we hurt we joked we're right we're wrong we're weak we're strong we lived to love
but the planets all aligned when you looked into my eyes and just like that watch the chemicals react and just like that the chemicals react (the chemicals react)
A smile filled his face as the music filled the air. Music truly was his reason for living. Without his music and the people he loved, he was nothing.

"kaleidoscope of colors turning hopes on fire, sun is burning shining down on both of us don’t let us lose it (don’t let us lose it...) " A pale, beautiful girl had been sitting on her bed, rubbing the soft, deep purple bruise on her small wrist - when she heard a most beautiful voice. For a moment she forgot all about the bruises on her arms, inflicted upon her by a couple of nameless Slytherin goons. Having earlier wiped the tears from her cheeks, allowing frustration to replace her anguish, Katya sat there, nursing her wounds in silence, until she heard him. She remembered that voice.. It belonged to Ashton. So many rumors and stories surrounded this boy, but she was never one for tall tales. No matter what, the inside mattered. All in all, keeping her mouth closed and her eyes open so long, she saw things. He was a nice boy.
Still wearing her favorite white, lacy, flowy dress - now slightly ripped, thanks to the bullies, but still nice - and her jean jacket, Katya crept into the room, a cautious look on her angelic face. The air was warm, cozy, thanks to the crackling fire in the fireplace. She preferred being cooler, but feeling the pleasant heat every so often was a nice change.
Her footsteps matched her voice, as she tiptoed silently into the room. Tilting her head to the side, Katya watched him for a moment, ambling towards the seat across from him. Slipping on to the chair, she crossed her legs, bruised hands resting against her knees. She wasn't sure what to say. He probably figured she was that Ravenclaw freak who kept to herself and didn't say anything, not knowing she really couldn't.

Ash looked up from his guitar and gasped in surprise, eyes widening, when he saw a girl sitting across from him. He quickly recovered however, and smiled laying his guitar aside. "Hi there. I didn't hear you come down." he said pushing aside his raven-colored fringe revealing sapphire eyes outlined in blue eyeliner. "I'm Ashton Laurent. Most people call me Ash." He smiled again, "Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around before."

"Hi there. I didn't hear you come down." Katya merely shrugged, with an expression on her face that pretty much summed up the fact that it was nothing new. She might as well be fresh to Hogwarts, everyone was treating her like the new girl when she had been here every since her first year. Those years seemed like such a blur to her now.. Maybe she really was the new girl, whether it be true, or in everyone else's eyes.
When asked if she was new here, Katya clasped her fingers together, fiddling with her hands for a moment or two. A little troubled on how to respond, seeing as he'd find it difficult to, well, read her. She was hard to understand. Hopefully he could read her lips, or the looks on her face. ' I am not new, no. I blend in with the walls here. ' At this, she let out a silent laugh, eyes twinkling. But there was a hesitant look in them, like she was waiting to see if he could understand her or not.
' Your song is very beautiful. ' Katya continued, still a little wary, seemingly enjoying the company.

Ash's brow furrowed, his eyes watched her lips as they formed silent words, 'I am not new, no. I blend in with the walls here.' Ash smiled, "I'm sure you don't blend in with all the walls!" he joked. He watched her lips as they began to move again, 'Your song is very beautiful.' Ash blushed and smiled, "Thanks. I'm glad you like it."

This was new to her.. This, conversation stuff. She must be better at in that she first thought, or he wouldn't have replied so jovially. All in all, Katya was delighted he could understand her. Placing a small hand against her chest, she hesitated, wondering if it was just beginner's luck, and if he would understand her this time. ' Katya. ' It looked like she said Kitty, and even if she had her voice, it would sound like Kitty, but with a lovely Russian accent. So everyone just called her Kitty. Well, not everyone.. Just the people she knew. Which numbered one, at the present time. And even then they were just aquaintances.
Curious now - as she hadn't seen many guitars around here, she seemed to be everywhere but the place she should be - Katya slowly drew herself forward, gaze locked in awe upon the instrument. Flicking her ice eyes up at him as if silently asking if she could touch it, only then she inched her fingers forward and lightly run her hand against the neck of the guitar. ' What name is it? ' Points for making the sentence work! Hah, not. At least it was semi-understandable. Katya liked giving names to things. Trees and animals, they all had special names. Of course she hadn't yet realised that the names for instruments were a little different than the ones she used.
Removing her fingers from it, Katya leaned back, deciding to just cross her legs and sit on the floor. It was carpetted, at least in the rug area, so her butt shouldn't have too much of a problem getting comfortable. ' Play a song? '

Ash smiled as he read her lips again, "Kitty? That's a nice name." He watched as her finger reached towards the guitar. He smiled and handed her the guitar. Kitty's lips moved again. "A special name? No. Well, it does but no one really knows. See that moon carved into the wood right there?" He indicated a crescent moon with his finger, "I put that there. So, I call my guitar Luna." He smiled, "Do you play any instruments?" He smiled again when she requested a song. "Sure. What kind do you have in mind?"

Katya's smile was smug, seeing as she guessed he'd pronounce it that way. She'd mouthed her name more than a few times in front of a mirror, and it really did look like Kitty. She didn't mind the nickname one bit, now that she thought about it. Nodding her head once, slowly, in thanks, the Claw's eyes shifted on to the moon. She hadn't even noticed it before! Strange, she usually noticed everything, being so observant. When you had no one to talk to, and there was nothing you could say, watching was all you could do. It was better than throwing a completely silent tantrum, right? Mm, if you consider her voice silent; the chairs thrown against the walls would be quite loud, and noisy. As funny as that image may be, Katya was never one to throw hissy fits. She was more mature, and docile, for her age. Everyone had those angry moments though, and she wasn't exempt from them.
' Luna. ' The fifth year mouthed, repeating the name to herself. Such a pretty name.. ' It is a very beautiful name. ' Katya replied, and, frowning slightly at the question, she realised what he was asking. Oh! Slowly, she drew two fingers to her lips, pointing. As ridiculous as it sounded, she sang. With all of her heart. Though her voice was silent, and her whispers were lost to the breeze, Katya still did. She sang before she lost her voice, still trying, hoping vainly it would come back to her, so they could hear her music. So just one person, just one, could her her voice. Smiling sadly, she seemed to sigh, ' Your favorite song. '

Ash smiled, watching her as she sang. He realized how hard it must be for her to not be able to talk to people. "What happened to your voice?" he asked. He watched her again, "My favorite song? I don't really have a favorite..."

Usually Katya only sang to herself, because all they would see were the movements of her lips, not the words pouring from her heart. But this Ashton - that was his name, she was sure of it - seemed really nice. And she was right, he didn't taunt her about it. A troubled look overcame her eyes though, when he asked about what happened to her voice. Rubbing her neck, she mouthed only one word, ' Accident. ' Then, playfully nudging his shoulder, the Claw smiled, ' Any song. ' Truth be told, she didn't know many songs. Just a few lullabies her parents used to sing her back home, and some she just made up by herself, for an excuse to sing them.
Stretching, Katya held her hand across her mouth as she yawned, blinking a little while waiting for him to start. Please. She thought to herself, Anything. She had to hear someone's voice right now.

Ash gave a sympathetic smile. "I'm sorry. It must be really hard for you." He smiled again, "Any song? Okay." He took his guiatar, setting it into his lap once more. "This one is called I'm Here. I wrote it a few days ago.
No one needs to know how we feel No one needs to understand Cuz they can't have a hold on us It's not just any kind of love I know when something is too sacred to touch
They don't see... You're right where I want you and I think You could be... Something that's more than expected Why let this go all the way down from here I'm here.
We both tend to run when we're hurting We both tend not to forgive and forget The past can't have a hold on us For you my heart will give its trust I don't need as much of you I just need your love
They don't see... You're right where I want you and I think You could be... Something that's more than expected Why let this go all the way down from here I'm...
Here you go again Doubting yourself For no good reason You're listening to someone else
They don't see... You're right where I want you and I think You could be... Something that's more than expected Why let this go all the way down from here I'm here. He smiled as he sang. He finished the song and looked up at Kitty. "So... great? bad? should I never sing again?" he joked with a small smile.

Katya said nothing, nodding her head slowly as a shadow fell over her eyes. But she remained silent, so to speak, her lips stagnant as she listened to the beautiful melody. When he finished, her eyes were suspiciously wet. ' It is beautiful. ' She mouthed, wiping at one eye before quickly looking away. It wasn't just the song, he knew as well as she did. His voice.. How he could speak his mind, and sing, and tell people how he was feeling, and ask if they were okay themselves. She was surrounded by these snippets of conversation every day, and every once in a while they just suffocated her.
' I am sorry. ' Katya seemed to mutter after a while, face tear-free. ' You are in a band, yes? Tell me about it. ' The name, his bandmates, everything. Did they have any at Hogmeade? She'd have to come see them, if they did.

Ash smiled, "Thank you, I'm glad you like it." He sighed when she mentioned his band. He turned away for a second then turned back. "No. I used to. But I had a falling out with my best friends and bandmates. The band's name was Calypso."

Realising she struck a never, Katya's hand flew to her mouth. Lowering it, the words spilled out, somehow silently apologetic and regretful, ' I am sorry, I did not mean.. ' She began, glancing away for a moment, and her face calmed. Placing a comforting hand on his shoulder, the Ravenclaw actually smiled, though it was soft, like she was, ' I belive that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. It just means they have some things to work out. If they were truly your best friends, they still are, they will come back to you. ' He just made a mistake, probably. They needed time to realise it, and get over it, then they'd be friends again.
' I have faith in you. ' Strange as the words were, they were true, coming from Katya.

Ash sighed and shook his head, "No. I'm sorry but... you're wrong. About this at least. They'll never talk to me again, and frankly, I don't really care." He smiled sadly, "They used to be my best friends, Bray and Fay. But now... everything we had is a distant memory. No more."
