Quidditch was his life as it was Theodore's But the two had been playing for most of their lives; Theo more but he had eight years on Russ. The two would practice for hours and often Sylvia would be bitching by the time Theo made it home, of course Russ never liked Sylvia to begin with.
"Me get back on a broom? That'll be the day. Afraid I'll injure myself further. Besides, my mum would have a cow! You've met her before, the woman is an injury nazi! One thing happens to her "russell sprout" and I'm out for the count, Man. But, I'm sure I could make an appearance." Yes, Russ' mom was still in his life alot, more than he liked actually. But she was his mother. She brought him into the world and she could definitely take him out of it. She might be a muggle but the woman and a strong right hook.
Russ hand caught onto the wink and shook his head with a laugh. He mouthed 'just friends' once more before putting his hands in his jean pockets. He didn't want anyone to get the wrong impression. They weren't together. Plain and simple. Catching Jen's grin, he returned it with a slight nod.
"No way. Thee, um- the guy with the curly hair? Big arms? Wicked back pass? Horrible catches? Rubbish," He never cared for Sylvia but Ted was a friend of his and Syl was a bitch, we'll leave it at that. "Lets hope he gets tired of her. Would be nice to see her crawling back to ya though, wouldn't it?" Russ turned back to Jen and gave a cheeky grin. He kept his hands in his pockets however.

Jennifer decided to excuse herself from the chatting couple and carry on with painting. She was determined to finish it by the end of the day even if Russell wasn't. She wanted him to do well for himself.
Giving a polite smile to Theo before giving the same to Russ, she turned around, and grabbing the paint pot she climbed up the ladder.
Hearing them chat about Theo's wife, or ex-wife, whatever she was now, she couldn't help but overheard them, and both of their disliking for her.
"Yeah, that little pompous arse. A year ago now, she wants half of everything I have. Screw her, she left me mate, ya know?" Theo said rubbing the back of his head in arrogance. It seemed both Russ and Theo were a perfect mate match, both pretty much exactly like each other.
Theo looked over to Jen to make sure she wasn't looking before leaning closer to Russ and whispering. "What the hells' wrong with you lad? She's the best looking lass i've ever seen you with, and you've pulled some crackers!" he nudged Russ.

Russell watched as Jen left the little triangle and went back to painting. He couldn't help but stare at her as he listened to Theo talk. He'd give the usual, "uh-huh," to let him know he was listening. The way Jen moved had the poor lad vexed. He pulled a hand out of his pocket and rubbed the back of his neck before letting a chuckle escape, "Yeah, I wouldn't give her a thing."
"What the hells' wrong with you lad?"
Russ couldn't help but laugh at this, "Huh?" He wasn't sure what Theo was getting at before he looked at Jen. "Yeah, but she's just a friend, you know? She beautiful but," Russ sighed, "I don't know. Look at me and look at her. The only good I'd ever do for her is stay away. She's not the kind for a one night stand like I'm used to, Mate. She's better than that and deserves more than me." So yes, Russ was getting deep but it was true. The only thing Russ knew how to do was make a girl fall in love with him, sleep with him then suddenly hate him in the morning.

Theo just watched Russ's eyes as he stalked Jen out with them. Smirked he looked back to Russ and gave a small 'Hkk' sound. "Well Lad, you don't meet a girl like that every darn day. I know I may not be the best advert for Marriage and such, but it was worth it mate, it really was. It just happens that she didn't like to see my ugly mug every morning anymore, and likewise with her" he reeled off, crossing his arms and placing his hands under his armpits.
Sure enough, Sylvia was his second wife. His school sweetheart Julie got sick of him being away all the time at matches, and soon decided to end it. Getting married just two years after school was a big mistake of his anyway, but hell, you live, you learn, and you make your own mistakes.
Breathing in deep and giving a sigh, Theo just raised his eyebrows as Russ. "Anyway, enough about wives and milarky... fancy going for a beer later on in the three broomsticks?"

Russ turned to Theo quickly before he laughed, "You serious? Sounds like you want me to be with her!" he said smacking him on the arm. "I'll tell you this now, Russell Haynes will never be a married man. That's like selling yourself to slavery." Russ shook his head, "Who'd in their right mind want to see your ugly mug everyday anyway?" Maybe Russ was just trying to hide from something. Sure, he imagined what it would be like one day to be married and have kids but he decided that it wasn't the life for him a long time ago.
Ted mentioned beer and instantly Russ smiled, "Of course! You know me. I can never pass down a drink," he said with a laugh. "But not tonight, I'm afraid I'm busy. Got to get the shop up or Jen over there might kill me," he said running a hand through his hair.
Russell turned in Jen's direction, "You missed a spot."

Theo gave a smile when Russ's face lit upt the sound of beer. His sarcastic self couldn't help but think that when Russ said Jen would kill him, he was probably lying about what he just said about marriage and such like, but he decided he'd drop it. After all it wasn't any of his business, nor did he want it to be.
"Alright then mate. I'll meet you tommorow night in the pub then" he smirked.
Laughing when Jen turned around and pulled a face when Russ said she missed a spot, he ran a hand through his hair quickly. "Well, maybe I'll see you soon Jen, Good afternoon" He said giving a quick wave before turning around and heading for the door.
"Have fun" he said to Russ quietly before winking and swiftly making his exit out of the door. Throwing on his Jacket, he slipped his hands deep into the pockets as it began to get cold. He was looking forward to having a good old chat with Russell again, the guy was a gem.

Jennifer couldn't help but secretly listen in on the pair's conversation, although some parts were harder to pick up on than others. She tried to fill in the blanks... It was a good thing she was facing away from them, so they couldn't see her facial expressions when something either made her laugh inside herself or frown.
Hearing Theo talk about his failed marriage, she couldn't help but feel a little sorry for the poor guy, and sure enough, she agreed that that wench shouldn't get any of his hard earned cash or objects. In Jennifer's mind, she gave the right for half when she cheated on Theo. Poor guy.
Sighing, she reached over a little to paint a little part before she heard Russ say something about him never getting married. Not that it mattered to Jen, but when she heard that her heart sunk and a frown found it's way upon her face. Maybe it was because she felt she was following a path with no end, yet again, or maybe it was the sadness she'd feel for Russ for not feeling the close bond that being a couple brought. Maybe it was both, but it still saddened her.
Deciding she didn't want to hear anymore, she got down and moved the ladder so she could reach easier. Climing back up, she began to paint again when she heard Russ say 'Missed a bit'. She gave a sigh, and put on a face, turning round and pouting, she gave a quick smile before turning back around, and writing 'Russ is a Muggle' in navy paint, going un-noticed by him...so far anyway.
Hearing her name, she turned around, balancing herself on the ladder and waved back at Theo with the paintbrush in her hand. "See you Theo, It was nice meeting you" she replied, giving him a friendly smile. She waited before he was out of sight before she turned around to paint once more.

Russell gave a nod as a good-bye and sighed, "Yup, see you then." He waited until Theo was completely out of sight before he walked over to Jen. He stared up at the wall and shook his head, "Are you serious?" he asked with a laugh. "You think that's funny, do ya?" Without warning, he pulled Jen off the ladder once more. He gazed into her eyes for a moment unsure of what to do. With a sigh, he set her down on her feet before grabbing a paint brush and painting over her saying.
The things Russ had told Ted were not exactly true. Maybe one day he'd get married but today wasn't that day and neither would tomorrow be. He kept his eyes glued on the wall now instead of looking to Jen. He wasn't proud of himself for saying the things he did, but it was just who he was around Theo, he couldn't really help it. Russ gave a small yawn.
The way Russ moved now was like a wounded dog. He was cautious around Jen as if the next thing he said would cause her to slap him. It was like Jen was the enemy. The one trying to tame him. Maybe he wasn't meant to be happy and to live the rest of his life as a bachelor no matter how bad his mom cursed at him. But the thing about Jen, it was almost as if Russ wanted her to tame him. He wanted to be hers but he'd never admit it.

Jennifer heard the door close and a moment's silence passed before she heard Russ speak. She had been grimacing and scrunching her face up, and tensing her shoulders waiting for the shout from Russ, and sure enough, he did as expected.
"I do think it's funny as a matter of fact" she laughed, being pulled off the ladder once again in those strong arms, that she loved, but seemed to betray her thoughts. Still, it seemed she was obviously just meant to be a lonely old lady with about a million cats for company, and that was all. The thought of Jen with cats made her smile, how she disliked them using i'll-love-you-when-I-want-feeding feline's. She much preferred dogs, life-long companions. Maybe she should get a dog, at least then she would feel better.
Watching him pick up the paintbrush and paint over her statement, she thought maybe she might have touched a nerve. Biting her bottom lip, her eyebrows raised in the middle. "Look Russ, I didn't mean any offence" she said, feeling a little awkward now. Looking into his eyes, she saw something different in him that she didn't see before. Something that looked very similar to regret, and a hint of sadness.
Sensing the dark atmosphere which had seemed to arrive with Theo's exit, she decided she would try and make light of the situation. "So, I think you should show me your tea making skills while I finish off this wall" she smiled, nudging him gently.

The things a woman could do to a man would drive you insane. They're all over you one minute than the next they seem so distant. This was Jen right now. Or maybe it was Russ? Wait, we're not talking about Russ, we're talking about Jen. She's the woman, not him! Getting back on track, it seemed like the whole conversation he had with Theo had been overheard and Jen's body language confessed it. He had hurt her but he didn't know how? What was it that he said that could get her so... protective?
"Well, If I'm a muggle, Sweetie, than so are you," he said as he finished up the last of that wall. "And you didn't offend me in any way. I know what kind of family I come from and it doesn't bug me in the slightest way. My parents are muggle's big deal." Russ gave a nervous laugh. Being called a muggle didn't upset him in the slightest bit. Sometime he wished he was one then maybe his life would seem more normal.
Tea.. she wanted him to make tea. Was she insane? "Jen. I don't know how to make tea." He was being serious. He didn't necessarily like the stuff so there was no need in making it. "How bout this... nap time?" he said raising his eyebrows. A nap sounded much better than tea anyway.

Jen was rubbish at lying, and how she was acting probably showed it. Sighing, she gave a fake smile before Russ started talking about being a Muggle. She was a half-blood, so she was the one that could be classed as dirty.
“Well i’m sorry anyway, I didn’t think” she admitted. Maybe she had said it to try and hurt Russ like he had done her. Typical woman really. Who knows. She didn’t care anymore, she was sick of being a cast-off. Shaking off the thoughts, she looked back to Russ, who said he couldn’t make tea. Something in her changed, and she knew she was wasting her time wanting more from Russ, so staying friends would have to be the next best thing.
“What? Urgh, Russ, your hopeless do you know that?” she grinned. Then suggesting a nap instead, she nodded simply. Why did she always get herself in these damn situations. Jennifer was the simple case of ‘always the bridesmaid, never the bride’. She always came second best, and sometimes, she wasn’t even in the running for first place.
“Alright then, but i’m not kipping on the floor, I deserve the bed” she said with a cheesy grin.

Russell noted the fake smile painted on Jen's face and the apology he received once more. Russ sighed and pulled her into a hug, "Don't be silly, you never think," he said before laughing. Russ leaned down and blew a raspberry on her neck before pulling away. She was sorry, it was something that only needed to be said once, not over and over again. Maybe Russ wanted to be more than friends with Jen but he wasn't the one to say it. He could suggest it but the decision was in Jen's hands, not his. Maybe he could do something for her later on.
Russ laughed and nodded, "Hopeless and loving every minute of it." Russ walked backwards away from her, "You know, you're pretty hopeless yourself," he said teasing, "I mean, look at you. Covered in paint, moping like you have no life. What's it gonna take for you to be happy?" He didn't mean to make it sound like it did, it was merely a way for him to get her to chase him.
"You think you deserve the bed? Well then, Jen. You're sharing." Russ sent her a wink.

Jen gave a small smile when Russ pulled her into a hug. Hugging him back she was soon interrupted by him blowing a raspberry on her neck. Bursting out laughing, she wriggled away from him and wiped her neck.
"I know i'm hopeless, but what's your excuse?" she said with a toothy grin. Russ then continued to talk and Jen just raised her eyebrows high and tilted her head a little. Putting her hands on her hips she shifted her weight over to one foot. "You can talk mister, at least I don't call myself a Muggle then use magic to paint a tiny wall!" she laughed, and mocked him by bringing her hand up to her face and giving her finger and thumb an inch gap to represent the miniscule wall.
He then mentioned the bed, and Jennifer couldn't help but bend over laughing. Sneakily done, she pretending to carry on her laughter and glanced up at him before making a run for the door to get to the bed first. "Not if I get their first Russ!" she laughed as she ran up the stairs.

Russell smiled at Jen, "My excuse is you," he said. Which she was. He didn't want to get involved with her in case he hurt her. He didn't want to NOT get involved with her because of the way she made him feel. Jen made Russell think which was something he wasn't used to but he liked it. He liked not knowing what she was going to do next, he like not knowing what she thought about him. Russ.... was falling for someone he only met the day before?
Russell laughed, "You serious? That wall's not that tiny. It's bigger than-" Russ turned to see the wall he had chosen, "Ok so it is tiny but its not as tiny as you describe," he said as he turned back to her.
She thought she was going to beat him to his own bed? HA, she wished. Russ started after her through the door and up the stairs. Down the hallway they went, Jen slightly infront of him. His bedroom was only feet way now. Jen was gonna beat him! Grinning, he hugged Jen around the waist before he turned her in the air so he'd fall on the bed first, followed by Jen. Letting her settle he turned on his side and faced her, "I beat you."

“Don’t use me as an excuse!” she laughed. Men, use everything or everyone but themselves as an excuse. She couldn’t help but laugh at him, the funny dork. She hated herself sometimes. She seemed to always like the wrong blokes, and when she set up shop here in Hogsmeade, it didn’t take her long before she started liking Daniel Hubbles. Sure enough that was cut short when she found out he was obsessed with his ex. Fair enough, but Jen always got the wrong ones. She was beginning to wonder if her previous thoughts about growing old and lonely with millions of cats was going to come true.
Running up the stairs, she screamed a little in anticipation as she heard Russ’s footsteps close behind hers. Feeling him grab her waist and get thrown onto the bed. Laughing so hard now her stomach her, she clutched it and rolled onto her back.Flinging her head back, she pulled her hair out of the ponytail and let it fall onto the bed.Turning her head to look at Russ she gave a small smile.
“Night Night” she grinned before giving a small laugh and turning herself towards Russ. She had the biggest urge to move closer to him and just snuggle into his chest, but she pushed the urge down.
