They could do something muggle involved, like take a vacation to London for a week and spend time with actual muggles.

I've always wanted to go on a field trip to the zoo, so that could work. Or aquarium. Or a museum of sorts. Perhaps even to a famous, well known place!

It's an interesting idea for a little side-plot away from the epidemic. But if we did do that, we should probably do it before the disease because otherwise those students either wouldn't be affected, or would've spread the disease to wherever they went for the fieldtrip.

(Zoo would be fun. I can imagine troublemakers magicking elephant trunks onto Crocodiles and things. As long as no one discovers they can miraculously talk to animals or something, haha.)

I do apologise but i think it is utterly ridiculous... the Epidemic idea is a good idea in general i spose... but i mean on ridd.. with some of the people on here. I think it would just be silly tbh.

It would just be one huge melodramatic Fiasco of a competition. “ Oh noes my character had a cough....” such and such then dies dramatically after being paralysed and then being pushed into the lake to drown and be munched upon by the giant squid....
I mean it just gonna be a competition like “My dude is like well ill and is on stage three and could die but miraculously he is gonna live! *Shock horror*” “ nuh-uh my person is so much more ill and is even sneezing elephants which then turn carnivorous and eat neighbouring students!”
I can see it just getting OTT and a huge competitive mess.. everyone shall just be trying to out do each other... which already happens beyond belief.. either your character is a Mary sue or they have the most traumatic past and yet somehow they are still holding strong.. ... how inspirational...

But personally i think if you come up with a plot it should be something else that is unlikely to get less out of hand and more amusing.. such as an up rise of bowtruckles or something stupidly random..
Or as me and liz were discussing over afternoon tea (much to our amusement) rogues dressed up in pantomime horse costumes ad they randomly and unsuspectingly steal students of hogwarts... i know.. the crime! Right...

And just because i feel you are being ever so slightly daft... you are looking for a common denominator for the illness to effect the wizards and witches.. but not the rest of the magical population... what do all witches and wizards have that no other magical creatures do... wands! Shock horror... so surely that would be your common denominator which would influence the epidemic ad why it affects them...

I agree with Imi. The whole thing is a good idea but not for a site like this. Everyone will be in competition with eachother, whos the more ill, whos closest to dying and it would become annoying and extreamly stupid. Ridd does need some form of plot but personally I think it should be Gail who starts it off with ideas.

I do see the fact like everyone is running around like headless chickens but dont forget there are other types of characters on the site and if we were to have a plot I think it should be something that can involve all manner of people, Including Centaurs and other creatures. Adults and who knows what else.

Ridd is a place of fun, not illness and personally I would like to think it could stay that way. Im not sure about a wave of virus' or whatever would do well for the site at all. But this is just my opinion as I seem to have a lot of those, and I tend to voice them.

On topic of the thread I agree this could be an interesting area to look into but then agree with my dearest Imi that it would give a chance for Mary/Gary Sues to come out in force as they are strong willed determined people who will not let a small cold knock them down…never will they get further then stage 1!!!

I do like the idea however of trying to find a plot for Ridd as it is needed but I think we need to find one that everyone would like and not let a few people come up with it…I think EVERYONE needs to have a say in the matter! And like Dan said Ridd is a fun site so we should all be fighting dragons and teaming up to capture pixies then dying of a mutated version of Bird Flu!

But please have a big, huge thank you for wounding my best friend's pride. She worked hard on this and we all did and I'm absolutely appalled that anyone on here would state something so bluntly with every intention of making us sound like utter idiots.

Ally and nicole i appreciate, you have put alot of effort into this, and no one is taking that away from you.... and i think the idea is ok.. i just do not believe it to be suitable for the site much as dan stated.. there was there little difference between our statements other than the fact that i believe i just got rid of one of the major flaws in you plan.. its ok no thanks required.

But as i said it will just become a big mess and other such stuff and it will be hugely competitive and no doubt cause rifts.. such as it had done now apparently...

In all honesty I do not think Imi said anything that bad…maybe this is just because I know Imi and that she only ever says things bluntly! She never tip toes around the truth and that is what I love about her and why we have been best mates for almost 10 years. But she could have put a lot worse! She did not bring down your plans at all she just mentioned how it could be a problem which has been agreed with…but also she offered a solution to your problem so in a way she was helping so please as you were defending your best mate Nicole I am doing the same with mine!

First off we werent wounding peoples pride. Everyone has the right to their own opinion and we never said it wasnt a good effort. We just said we didnt think it right for a site like this. Even by regulating it though your still going to get the mary sues and gary sues about it there is no avoiding that, it doesnt matter how you do it, it will still happen. People in competetion with each other it happens, and with an epidemic on this scale it will happen and even though it is a good idea, it would ruin it anyway.

Another thing.
Not once did we say you were idiots, we're not cruel. We have our opinions and we have the right to voice them, whether you like them or not. The site is going down the drain and somethine does need to be done, I agree. But how the hell is a Virus going to help? Its not. Simple as.

Now to be honest I dont care how many annoyed pms I get for this, or how much you lot begin to dislike me, but I get highrated very easily and I stick up for what I think and what I believe in. I didnt mean to burst Ally's bubble as I do like her, but this idea is just completely wrong for the site.

Honestly though Ally. Dont take this offensive, but theres a hell of a lot of tension between members. Theres no way that tension is going to be sorted unless you voice your opinion like everyone else. None of us said anything bad, we never said you were stupid, or the idea. Well, if we all agree that something needs to be done with Ridd, why can't we agree on something?

We can't have a happy-go-lucky, everybody plants freaking flowers on the lawns plot because that would be the most boring thing ever.
And we can't go too dark and depressive because then we'd end up with an uncontrollable flood of emokids.

I would come up with ideas, but I did post them first on this thread and at the moment, I don't have any more because I killed my brain on the sickness.

Edit because nicole doesn't feel like posting again: Barren for a while? The plot was waning at the end of the last term badly and all the main characters from the plot were gone.
This entire term there has been no plot and no adult characters, just everyone making stuff up to amuse themselves and try to have fun on here.
The time for a plot has been long overdue, and I hate to point the finger, but no staff member was working on it. And if they were, they weren't even letting the public of Ridd have a say. So don't blame Ally for this mess, since she was voicing the thoughts of more than just me and her. Lynn told me that she was tired of Ridd being unadmined and she even went out to work on her own site. And you know what? So did I.

You know, I think that's a bit of the problem. A few people CAN'T regulate ridd's entire plot, and this is meant to be a brainstorming thread, yet somehow it's come to sound like it's set in stone. I participated in the planning, so it was easy for me to accept the idea, but when you think of it - the idea was solely made up by two or three people. That's not really fair.

The problem is, no one wants to be dictated and everyone wants a say. Instead of being appalled, you should take it into consideration - I find it reasonable, and I also worked hard coming up with plot guidelines.

And no one wants to make anyone sound like an idiot. Every plot, even if it unravels, takes a lot of clever planning.

To the contrary, I think the idea is grand - an epidemic. It brings in danger, and when Matt first suggested it so long ago, I was all for it. I think every plot has the potential to have Mary Sue characters, not just this one. However, I think because no one got a say in the planning process, the way it was introduced created a lot of bad feeling. Also, there are so many plot holes no one wants to look into.

I think the next time a brainstorming thread is made, a Moderator should make it so it's more neutral and people feel it isn't so much of a tyranny.

Our last plot took a lot of planning and a lot of time. Ridd is about quality not quantity, really, so if the forum is a bit barren for a while, it's not going to crush most RPers, I don't think. As long as everyone gets to voice their opinion and no one tries to take control of the site, things should be okay.

whoa, whoa, whoa! guys, what's with all the arguing? let's all just calm down, take a few deep breaths, and discuss this calmly, rationally, and most of all... maturely. there is no reason for us to get all worked up over a disagreement. maybe the epidemic idea isn't good for Ridd, but do we honestly have to be so rude to eachother? no, we do not. i apologize if i offend anyone, but personally, i'm getting tired of all the fighting and nitpicking. we are all here for one common reason, and that is to RP and have the best time we can doing it. we're all supposed to be a team here, so let's start acting like one. Ridd cannot function if we are all picking on eachother and arguing. No one person runs Ridd (well, technically Gail does, but even she has the mods to help her!)
