[Lake] The Lake

Kim walked out of the castle, it was a cold day and quite windy so she had put her hair up in a ponytail. Though that didnt stop it whipping her in the face. She thought about going back but she was already halfway there now and it would have just been a complete waste of time and effort.

She smiled when she got to the lake and realised it hadnt changed at all, "About the only thing that has stayed the same" she laughed to herself then realised she must look completly crazy. Still that didnt stop her, if anyone asked, she had mental issues. Not that she did or anything.

Kim went and sat at the edge, running a hand through the icy water. How many times had she been swimming here? And each time it ended disasterously. That never stopped her though. She was still careless, just not as careless. While she'd been away, she'd learnt a lot, mainly about herself... And certain other things which no power on any planet would have her repeat that due to the sheer embarrasment of it. Still, it was a funny memory for her to have now she looked back on it.

How she ended up back at school, that was a story that wouldnt be told to anyone either. Kim had plenty of secrets, just like anybody else, everyone had personal things. Kim was no different from anybody else. And her tendancy for fighting in school, she thought that maybe had gone away, but she'd have to see if anyone pushed the buttons in the wrong way. She sat by the lake and just smiled.

[Jerred Boneman]

'The lake hasn't stayed the same at all, the water level has risen by a few centremetres.' Jerred said, seemingly appearing from nowhere, but had actually been sitting not far away when he heard a voice and investigated. 'Se how the water rises above the rocks now? It wasn't like that before you left.'

Jerred smiled warmly, crossing his arms. 'So, how is Kimba? If I remember that's what you like to be called... Correct me if I'm wrong, ok?' He said, laughing.

"Yeah because I'd notice a couple of centimetres difference wouldnt I?" She smiled taking her hand out of the icy water. Looking over in the direction of the rocks and trying to recall her memory of the lake but failing miserably.

"Kimba's fine" She smiled, "Her puppy got lost though" She said looking back out at the lake, "thing was always too curious for its own good" She looked back up at Jerred, her ponytail still trying to attack her but she just ignored it, "How've you been anyway?"

'Bored.' Jerred replied quickly, then remembered the puppy she had. 'So the puppy that the dead Prof made for you is lost? Aww, for how long has he been gone?'

Jerred laughed before sitting down on the rocks, a slight look of discomfort crossing his face a rock pricked his backside.

'Never, ever sit down on a pointy rock... It hurts.' He said, leaping to his feet and rubbing his backside. 'Besides, it hurts more than getting your ass kicked, and yes I do mean literally.'

He felt the cool breeze wash over his face as he looked over the water. His longish hair whipping back as he laughed. 'I've missed you a lot, Kim, more than a lot of people realise.' Jerred said, seriously, his tone changing.

"Thats how you've been. What for near two years ive been gone. Just. bored?" Kim laughed. Two years she'd been gone, it was a long time now she thought about it. Looking back over and out across the lake she watched as the water ripped through the wind.

"Well what did you expect it to do? Tickle?" She laughed as he rubbed his backside. "Shouldnt sit on pointy rocks then should you?" She looked at him and gave him a cheeky smile.

She let her smile drop when he told her he'd missed her. She looked down to the ground, "Really?" she mumbled, she felt worse now for leaving. She forced herself to look back up at him, "Ive missed you" She told him before looking back at the water and putting her hand back in it absent mindedly.

Jerred smiled, before putting his hands in pockets. 'I don't expect anything to happen, just to let you know. You've been gone too long anyway, it'd feel wrong. Besides, you probably found someone else much better than me anyway, someone who wasn't as bored as I was.' Jerred said, laughing afterwards.

He spoke the truth, he never expected to see her again, but when he did see her, talk to her, he felt conflicted inside. He looked at her before forcing himself to look away. 'So, there was someone else then?' He said coyly, before squatting.

Kim looked at him, "I didnt expect things to be how they were before when i came back. Like you said. Ive been gone too long, things have changed, so have people" She looked at him and raised an eyebrow, "No, there was nobody else" She told him. It was the truth, in the whole time she'd been gone, she hadnt been with anybody. "How about you?" she asked

'You're serious? No one?' He said, surprised by her answer. Her then remembered her question and coughed slightly. 'Never did I do anything, but a few crushes here and there, nothing came of them obviously.'

'Oh yeah, have a look at this!' He said, standing and taking one hand out of his pocket. His palm was empty, but he soon closed his hand and opened it quickly, a dazzling red light exploding from his hand. 'That doesn't impress many people, but I told you, I've been bored and this is something I found out one day.'

"Very serious" She spoke. She hadnt ever stayed in one place too long and she didnt have much time for anyone while she was gone. She had made a name for herself, though if asked, she couldnt tell you what it was. Something like arrogant teen.

Kim looked back up from the lake and watched what Jerred was showing her, she smiled a little, "Impressive" she said, though not much enthusiasm in her voice. "You must have been pretty bored" She joked, taking her hand out of the water now it was numb.

'Nah, no where near as bored as I was one night when I chased after a Ministry official, making him pretend I was a mountain troll before I blasted him in the back with the Booger hex.' Jerred said, lauhging at the memory. 'That was actually pretty fun, as well as finding out some rather disturbing things about myself... Did you know I can run through trees? Did you know I can flip backwards? Did you know I'm actually smarter than people think I am?'

Jerred paused. 'Well, you kinda do now.' He said, looking away with a grim look on his face. 'So, anything new you can do? A new spell? New power? You're an Animagus now? You're part Giant? You like dragons?'

Kim looked at him with a shocked look on her face, "You chased after a ministry official?" she laughed, that sounded like it was something worth watching. "No, i didnt know any of that. I knew you were smart, you went out with me for gods sake" she laughed "Im joking, i knew you were smart though"

Kim lowered her head, she didnt really want to talk about what had gone on while she was away. "Uh, No, just the same old Kim" she said scanning the grass blades, "I liked dragons anyway"

Jerred could feel the uneasiness that he saw Kim reflect, her body language a sign that she didn't want to talk. Knowing when to shut up, Jerred closed his mouth before he asked a question that he may regret later asking. He thought of a new question however.

'So what type of dragons do you like?' Jerred asked, flicking his hand open and closed again, creating miniature explosions each time he did it, a sign that he was growing bored. Jerred looked at Kim and the way she looked and regreted even asking what she did during her absence. 'If it helps, I won't ask anymore about what happened... I'll only ask what you want to do from now on, is that fair?'

"Which dragons?" She asked looking up at Jerred who was by now, making those little explosions, "As long as it has wings and breathes fire. I like it" she said. Kim looked back out over the lake. Things had become so different, though, to Kim, Jerred was the one who had changed the most. Its amazing what a couple of years can do to a person.

"I left here because" She began, drawing in a deep beath, she wasnt going to tell him everything, that might come at a later date but for now, she'd give him the run, "After everything that had happened, I needed to get away, mainly after the Greyback incident" She told him flicking the water with her hands, "I went to find who I was... Who i wanted to be, what i found however was completly different but i wont fo there" she looked up at him, "I worked in a club for a couple of months and there was an incident, quite an embarrasing one which i will not be telling" She laughed, and looked back out over the lake, "It was a pretty good journey, apart from losing my puppy" she said, she missed that puppy, she had looked everywhere for him but she never found him, "Im sorry i didnt tell you i was going, or get in touch"

Kim stood up and faced him, she shrugged and kicked the ground creating a hole, she looked back to him and smiled, "There, i told you." She smiled, "but if you only want to ask me what to do, then thats okay"

'Leaving without a word hurt but after a while I guessed you had your reasons, plus that whole Greyback incident... Not fun.' Jerred said, remembering the time like it was only yesterday. 'But to a brighter point, you're back, looking lovely as usual and hopefully ready for another year of having to put up with me.' Jerred clapped his hands together and rubbed them in eagerness, a cheeky grin filling his face.

'So, what do you want to do now?' He asked, the grin remaining.

Kim turned around, she hadnt thought that just dissapearing would hurt anybody. She hadnt thought about anything, she had just left one morning and never looked back, she forced herself to look at him, "It was selfish, i know that. I had my reasons sure, but it wasnt anything i couldnt have told you. I at least could have given you the heads up I was going." She sighed "Im sorry i hurt you, im back now and im not asking for things to be like they were before because i know they wont be. I guess I have a lot of things to make up for really come to think of it. And before you ask, ive no intention of running off again"

Kim shrugged, she wasnt really that bothered where she went. The wind had started to die down a bit now so her hair wasnt really attacking her, "Anywhere..." She thought for a minute, "Why not go to the shrieking shack again? See if we can beat it this time?" she smiled and put her hands behind her back, "You were really arrogant back then"
