Cassy was begining to bore of being seated by herself, why she had bothered to come she did not know, she never really liked these kind of things anyway, it was usually her friends that dragged her along, but here she didn't have any of those yet.
One thing she hated beyond anything else was moving schools.
Spotting a boy walking across the floor infront of her she stood up, he looked alone, well that was someone who had something in common with her. Walking over she smiled as she stood infront of him.
"Hi, im Cassy"
She held out her hand. Then as if giving an explanation she added:
"I'm new around here..."
She laughed.

Ian arched a brow as the Hufflepuff skittered away in a hurry. He had hardly had a chance to reply to Dax, and was staring in a bemused fashion after the boy as he disappeared from sight.
"That was peculiar..." He said, turning back around to face Loren who's embrace he had returned just as energetically. Then, realisation hit and he leaned against the drink table, towering goblets wobbling behind him.
"Haven't unwrinkled that mess yet?" The Ravenclaw would sometimes suddenly vent about the Hufflepuff when they'd be grooming Felix, or walking down the hallways, and even as clueless as he could be, Ian had pinned this situation down. He grimaced when he remembered what Dax had said before he departed and pushed himself off the table, ready to hold back Loren from hexing Hubbles if he had to.

Dean looked over at the sudden voice. He smiled at the girl "Hello" he said, not quite sure what she was doing. "Oh, new, huh?" he chuckled softly "Being the new kid isn't ever the fun thing" he said. "How are you adjusting?"

"Sophie, Sophie, Sophie..." she repeated the name mentally, making sure not to forget it. This girl seemed particularly interesting, perhaps someone to keep an eye on for future refereance. "Pleased to meet you as well," she said with a grin. She nodded slightly, looking around the room, "I suppose I'm having a nice evening... it's a bit dull in my own opinion to be perfectly honest. But I suppose that's what happens when there aren't any boys brave enough to ask a girl to dance..." she sighed over-dramatically, then tried to give a good-natured chuckle. She was trying to enjoy herself, but without any hard liquor or suitable dates to escort her, this whole event was beginning to wear thin. Thus far the only interesting thing to happen was a loud argument from a couple of Hufflepuff boys, who, Layla couldn't help but notice, Sophie's attention seemed to continue to drift towards.
"If you'd rather go hang out with your friends I entirely understand," she said with a smile. She wasn't trying to get rid of the girl, but she knew she'd have rather been with some of her Beaxbaton friends than Adair anyday. She could only assume that Sophie would prefer to spend the evening with her comrades as well.

Adair scowled as Layla cast off their discussion, leaning back in his chair. He was growing bored, and the idle conversation at the table only proved to be more dull than an ogre's personality.
When a girl acknowledged him, he sat up a bit straighter and drummed a finger on his glass. "Adair Telbor," he said with a brief nod, his eyes reaching Layla again as she continued to chatter away. Of course, she was a sociable character and probably a hostess of many parties, and he was starting to find it unbearable.
"Yes, you certainly may go retreat to your friends." He said in a dry voice. He wanted to continue his and Layla's previous discussion further, and was hoping he wouldn't have to do it away from the Hall and outside in private.
People could interpret such things in the most terrible way.

Girty gave a small smile as the girl offered her a biscuit. With a nod she happily took one off the plate. Taking a rather large bite out of it Girty chewed slowly on the biscuit while looking around the room. It was slowly filling up however she did notice quite a few people by themselves. Swallowing on hard Girty looked at the girl and mustered up another smile, she knew she had to say something to try and make a conversation. ‘Now what would people in this situation talk about?’ she thought to herself.
“Erm…I like your dress, it is very retro.”
Retro? Why did you use that word? Giving a small sigh Girty looked to her feet. She started to feel very embarrassed and the silence was getting longer.
“I am Girty Hubbles by the way.”

Will's plan of entering the ball fashionably late had already fallen byt the wayside, ordinarily in such circumstances he would have held off as long as possible to make as big an entrance as humanely possible. As it was he'd grown bored merely joking with his male friends, he now seeked the more amiable and serious company of women, lady's to be precise if his luck was in. Indeed he had a rather good feeling about this evening, a feeling of pure exhilaration and a sense his fortunes might be improving. of late he'd had little success with the opposite sex, nor his own to be truthful, he found himself grown a tad more irritable, but he couldn't place his finger upon the problem.
Bedecked in splendour, quite possibly one of the best dressed lads present as he wished to make an impact, almost strutting into the hall along with his friends, who were he had to admit looking reasonable too, though the girls had obviously all entered from the very outset of the preceedings. Chiding himself for the arrogant walk he subsided to a more leisurely pace having wanted to fling the doors wide creating an echoing crash throughout the hall to attract attention, he foudn the doors were already flung wide to allow entrance of the steady throng winding their way down. As people sidestepped from his path he grinned and was positively determined to gain the best girl here, twas a shame there qouldn't be a competition for the best of the ball, he wondered who would have joined him on the throne of glory. Chiding himself once more for overstepping himself he swept along through the people making his way across the hall; his fellows not two steps behind, though most were already dispersing towards their respective date partners.
Wishing there was an elevated area where he could espy the most beautiful girl his heart barely beat a jot faster at the looks of most, though he had to admit there were a few real beauties. Suddenly noticing a rather elegant Gryffindot seated near the bar, he was instantly dumb-struck by her beauty, this was the lady most of the lads had spoken of, and they hadn't exaggerated he had to admit. Emitting a low wolf whistle he nudged a his good friend Robert and muttered "I see what you mean mate, she's a bit of alright. I'll see you later, or perhaps I won't if I strike lucky," he joked grinning and straightening his robes which were still pristeen.
About to advance and sweep down upon his prey; the beatuiful transfer from Beauxbatons he suddenly noticed Sophie sat next to her. His heart now beating ten to the dozen he swept away abruptly stopping his garbled cry of greeting. Moving swiftly away musing over the apparent disastrous nature of the situation he bit his lip, he sorely wanted to meet the new Gryffindor but Sophie would just spoil everything; though oddly his feelings now centered upon his dearly beloved friend rather than the possible aquaintance.
Stepping away smartly he collided head on with a tall Hufflepuff who ahd seemingly jumped into his own way "hey watch it!" yelped Will but instantly grinned upon noticing the girl he was with; the infamous Girty Hubbles, Hufflepuff champion. Looking once more at the lad he recognised him as Boggleworth, the old Head Boy as he was so often known, though rumour had it, he had been leader of a rather disruptive group, the Guild, perhaps he had better introduce himself to the influential pair. "William Harris at your service," he said bowing and lightly kissing Girty's hand "you must be Miss Hubbles, the rumours of your beauty are nothing compared to the real article," he said smiling, his eyes irresistably drawn to Girty's startingly radiant eyes.

Suddenly to her great surprise another person seemed to have said her name. At first Girty thought the girl in front of her was talking without moving her mouth but she felt a tug of the hand. Spinning around to see how the intruder was Girty noticed that there was a Gryffindor kissing her hand and seemingly prising her.
Girty felt her cheeks go warm and a small smile killed her face. After the first moment of fluster had passed Girty stopped to think about the name and where she had seen the boy before. When it stuck her she pulled her hand away and found it hard not to burst into a fit of giggles.
“I remember you. I sat next to you in detention that time, cause you and Dax…..your that Will. I understand now why you prised me so readily.”
After a few seconds of looking at the boy Girty exchanged looks with Boggleworth and Deianira. She was feeling rather pleased with herself that she had in fact remembered who this boy was.

Grinning all around he released Girty's hand with regret, wishing he could lead her onto the dancefloor this very minute, though he realised he looked like he was rushing things somewhat, in reality he only wished to be friends with the girl, a friend ina high place was always valuable as his Mother always said. Positively beaming he nodded at his aquaintances, signalling for Robert, who at present hadn't a date to fetch some drinks, perhaps his friend would find love at the bar he hoped, though maybe he should introduce him to Girty, their personalities would hit it off he presumed. Robert was a great pal really, always eager to please but generally warm and friendly, much better than his own arrogance and conceit he admitted.
"How d'ya understand?" He asked with a sinking feeling believing his reputation to be preceeding him as always. "I can't think of what ya mean," he commented flashing Girty a wicked grin. "Ah but I remember that detention well, went great considering," he joked slapping Boggleworth on the back. "Will you be dancing later?" He asked Girty a daring smile sneaking across his features.

Freya walked in the Great Hall, suddenly feeling a rush of self consciousness as everyone saw her in her formal attire for the first time. The Ravenclaw gave off an air of being confident with herself and others, but truly she often felt uncomfortable. I should go in theatre. She scoffed at the thought, amusement immediately relieving some of the fear.
She crossed the room over to the one of the many circular tables dotted all around the hall, deciding to sit down for some conversation before braving the very active dancefloor. She had decided to go for a simple dress for the evening - black, strapless, not too long and not too long, fitted round the waist and flowing at the bottom.
Looking around she noticed people busily in their own groups, and finding no obvious person to start talking to, she soon find herself amusing herself by fiddling with the tables centre piece. Picking up the Slytherin shield from the display she twirled it round her fingers again and again - crack.
Muttering Reparo to no affect, the Professor across the room gave her suspicious look. Putting on innocent look (that was the sort of innocent look that only guilty people used) she placed the broken shield back in the display with a weak laugh, before moving quickly along to the next table.

Cassy smiled and tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Surprisingly OK actually"
Looking around then back to the boy who hadn't introduced himself yet.
"So are you here with anyone? Sorry if that sounded a bit forward, its just the only people i know are already with someone else"
It was a problem when you only really knew four-five people.

Ariane bobbed her head all alone in one of the dark corners. Her black halter dress just swept along the floor and her hair awas pinned up in a bun, a simple pentagram neaklace was on her neck and silver hoops dangelled lightly from her ears. She smiled at a passing person and sontiued to sip softly at her drink.

Cassy smiled and nodded, well it wasn't as though that was unexpected. It was a dance and everyone had had weeks to plan what they were wearing and whom they would be going with but seeing as Cassy had really only just heard of this she was kind of thrown into the deep end.
"Well i'll leave you to find them, i hope you have a nice night Dean. I''ll catch you around sometime"
Smiling she waved goodbye as she left, she contimplated going back too the dorms seeing as she didn't know anyone. Exiting the great hall she made her way up the stair case passing people every now and then.
