Jerred stepped onto a twig, suddenly alerting the thestral. "Hey, there... We won't hurt you." Jerred said, confidently. He closed the gap on the thestral and reached out his hand and the thestral sniffed it. It suddenly reached forward and rubbed itself against his hand, making a muffling sound as it enjoyed itself. "Hey, cool. Kim, you have a go."

Kim got suddenly nervous and backed away. "No.. i.. uh.. no" she shook her head "i cant.."

Kim took his hand and began walking forward. As she did the threstral lifted its head up and moved slightly making Kim stop dead in her tracks. "I cant"

"Is it because you're scared of it?" Jerred asked, concerned and not going to push her further. "They're harmless. We should count ourselves lucky to see one... though it's a bad thing sometimes."

Kim walked over to it and just stood there. "Its a damn big thing that only people who have seen death or seen people die or whatever.. something to do with death can see.. why shouldnt i be a bit nervous?"

Kim ran her hand along its back. "Soft" she said. It turned and looked at her. She looked back at it slightly nervous again "You sure they dont bite?"

Children are sure of many things.
A falling leaf. Spirals slowly before it is silver, a blade. It leaves a thin scratch along Jerred's brow as it passes as momentary brightness in the twilight. Imbeds itself underfoot, accepted by the earth. The thestral steps forward on instinct, skeletal and immense.
The blood begins in a shallow trickle, visible only to the thestral's sightless vision.

She shook her head "Im running nowhere without you" she said grabbing his arm. "Lets just run and hide... come on" she tugged at him harder but he wasnt moving.
