It wasn't a lesson he'd generally teach so early in the year, but while there was a message so clearly written across the sky, he figured he would see if any of the students posessed any natural talent in reading the stars... It wasn't anything one could teach, per se, so he wasn't sure what he would do if it turned out that no one could see what he could, but it was worth a try. He was unsure whether the Headmistress would believe him if it was just he could could see it, and, well... He knew there was something he couldn't see, and if he was wrong... He couldn't make any mistakes, not of this magniture. He drew his cloak tightly around him, standing in the cool midnight air of the roof of the divination tower, and waiting for students to show up. Surely they would be intellegent enough to notice the sign on the classroom door instructing them to come to the roof.

Kim saw the notice on the door so she walked to the roof. It was a cold night so she hugged her robe tighter around her. "Hi professor."

Fin came running up to the roof as fast as he could (because of his short legs, he wasn't usually on time, because he couldn't run very fast), panting very heavily. "Am I late am I late am I late?"

Algernon laughed, waving at the students. "Not at all, not at all. I do hope your classmates turn up soon though, it's cold out here! Don't go too close to the edge, now." he cautioned. "You'll fall right into the lake from up here, and you know we've got a giant squid." He shuddered, peering off the side of the tower distastefully.

Carrie walked onto the roof and shuddered slightly in the cold air. She had just managed to catch the end of what the Professor had been saying, and looked carefully over the edge, to see, just like he had said, the lake. Joining the rest of the class, she pulled her cloak tightly around herself in an attempt to keep in some warmth.

Still panting a little, Fin walked over to the ledge. "This is a nice place, I might sleep here one night...anywho, isn't the squid friendly Mr. Moncrieff?

Alana ran ouside, having just seen the sign posted on the classroom door. She hoped she wasn't late. When she arrived she noticed that not very many students were there. 'Oh good.' she though, 'I guess I'm on time. For once' She noticed that Proffesor Moncrieff was staring out at the lake with what appereared to be a very unhappy expression on his face. "Proffesor?" Sha asked tentatively, "Is something wrong?"

Algenon shrugged. "So they say, Mr. McFinnigan. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance." He laughed, looking at Alana. "Ah, no. I just don't much like the idea of the squid, that's all. Now then!" He leaned his head back, gesturing up at the stars. "Those little beauties are our lesson today, Ms. Rivers. Gather around, students." He waited until the students had gathered around him, then pointed up. "Just look up there, that's it. Now, a few of you may be confused. After all, this isn't Astronomy class. You'll have to rely on our talanted Professor Black for that. But the fact is, many races use the stars to read future events. One main one in particular. Can anyone tell me which that is?"

Professor Moncrieff looked blank for a moment, then laughed. "No, no, I meant which race, dear." He clarified.

Algernon grinned. "Very good, Mr. McFinnigan! Five points to Ravenclaw. That's right, Centaurs are very skilled in reading the stars. It's an inborn talant, in the blood. Nearly every centaur can read the stars as easily as most of you can read the words on a book." He chuckled, scanning the stars with his eyes. The message was there, even more clearly than it had been last night, now that it wasn't obscured by rain. "Sometimes... humans are born with the ability, too." He turned to the students. "Tell me, do any of you see anything?" he asked, his voice urgent.
