Lisa gathered her notebook from her bookbag, watching the students bustle around for their ingredients. She preferred the organizational method- writing down her procedure and then following it step-by-step, recording her observations.
Tapping her chin lightly with her quill, she racked her brain for the many antidotes she had read about. Then, an idea suddenly came to her- she quickly dipped her quill in ink and began to write it down.
Ingredients: 1/2 Cup Billyweed Stings 3/4 Cup Scurvy-grass 100mL Salamander Blood 1/3 Cup chopped Lovage Leaves 1 Cup Pomegranate seeds 1 Chopped, Matured, Mandrake plant
Procedure: 1. Fill standard size 2 cauldron half full with water, heat to a boil. 2. Add 1/4 Cup of Billyweed stings and stir Clockwise six times. The Billyweed stings are used to awaken the poison. Add the other 1/4 Cup and stir Counter Clockwise another six times. 3. The potion should be a dull grey liquid, bubbling slightly. Add the 1 Cup of Pomegranate seeds to the 100mL of Salamander blood. Both Salamander blood and Pomegranate seeds are used to strengthen the body, so the poison can do no further harm to the victim. 4. The potion should now be scarlet, and cool to the touch.[Though, it is recommended that you do not touch it, as it may alter the affects.] Now add the Loveage Leaves. Lovage Leaves are known to be a medicinal herb, and will began the healing process, attacking the poison in the victim's body. 5. Stir the potion for 30 seconds Counterclockwise, then swiftly stir Clockwise for another 10 seconds. The potion should turn a deep purple, which signals it is ready for the next ingredient- Scurvy-Grass. 6. Add 3/4 Cup of Scurvy-Grass to the potion, letting the reeds float on the top until they are completely burned, and are no longer visible on the surface. Then stir the potion once more, until the Deep purple has darkened into almost black. 7. The final ingredient is found in almost all antidotes. The Mandrake plant should be added to the black liquid promptly after the Scurvy-Grass. Then, stirring the potion, it should turn Navy-blue. The Mandrake, a strong healer, will rid the final traces of poison from your body.
Relieved that she finished on time, Lisa took a vial and filled it with the Navy-blue liquid. Then she corked it, laying it safely onto her table, next to her write-up.

Keaira walked into the room with a light glide to her steps, reaching Professor Wigglyfish's desk and bowing deeply.
"I'm so sorry, Professor," she said sincerely, "but I was held up in the corridor by some, er, raucus...students." She had been on the verge of saying "Slytherins," but didn't feel like starting any "us versus them" bouts and further disrupting the lesson. "I heard your instructions when I was just outside the door, I believe, and I hoped I could participate in this lesson, if you aren't going to penalize me for my lateness."

'No, no, don't worry Miss. Liath..' Prof. Wigglyfish clicked her fingers, conjuring another vial which she handed to Keaira before starting to walk around the class.

"Thank you, Professor."
Keaira sat at a table near the back of the room, not noticing who else was working there. She inspected her vial carefully before setting it down and taking out her Potions text. Skimming through it, she finally located a specific page and began jotting down notes.
Milk thistle, diced (125mL) (anti-chemical toxin) Extract of milk thistle (500mL) (liver protection) E. angustifolia (125mL) (strengthen immune system) Garlic (2 cloves) (cardiovascular) Piper methysticum, shredded (83mL) (antepileptic) Astragalus, powdered (150mg) (antioxidant) Mandrake root, crushed (1 large plant) (general healing)
1. Simmer extract of milk thistle until steaming (bring nutrients to fruition). Immediately add E. angustifolia and stir five times counterclockwise, one time clockwise, three times. Let potion sit for two minutes.
2. Stir once counterclockwise. Let potion sit one minute and observe color. If potion has turned pale green, stir three times clockwise. and immediately add diced milk thistle. If potion has turned pale blue, immediately add diced milk thistle and stir twice counterclockwise.
3. Slowly add piper methysticum to potion, stirring constantly. When all has been added, the potion should turn dark purple and hiss slightly. Let sit over medium heat five minutes.
4. Add 100mg astragalus and stir ten times clockwise, once counterclockwise, and five times clockwise. Potion should turn lavender after clockwise stir and increase in hissing after stirring is complete. Add remaining astragalus and lower heat. Let sit for two minutes.
5. Dust half of the Mandrake root over potion and stir quickly seven times counterclockwise. Stir in garlic (approximately five stirs) and add remaining Mandrake root. Stir once clockwise. Potion should have turned pale green.
6. Bring heat to high for two seconds, then slowly lower to a simmer. When the potion is steaming and darkened to forest green, bottle immediately, trapping one centimeter of steam over potion.
Following the directions precisely, Keaira bottled her potion and penned her name on the side. She had done all she could; hopefully it would be good enough.

Professor Wigglyfish wandered around the classroom to check everyones progress. She first came to Helia's desk, who had already managed to finish her antidote. The professor leaned down to examine the antidote and grinned. 'Peppermint leaves, if I'm not mistaken?' She said looking at Helia who nodded whilst looking slightly worried. 'Hmm, interesting addition. Just the sort of innovative style potion makers should have - 10 points to Ravenclaw Miss. Ollivander. I assume you've guessed what your poison is by the looks of this antidote.. I'm impressed, you're right. Another 5 points for Ravenclaw!'
Leaving the grinning girl behind, she moved onto the next desk where Keaira patiently waited. Professor Wigglyfish picked up the vial, and peered into the forest green mixture for a number of minutes with her eyebrow raised. Keaira watched her with a worried expression, before the professor formed a smile. 'I can see a good knowledge of medicinal plants in here, Professor vonCrink would be proud! 10 points to Gryffindor!'
The occupants of the next few tables hadn't finished yet, well, in Mr. Malfoys case - hadn't even started. 'Come on the rest of you! Not much time left!'
She walked up to the final table which Lisa occupied as she hastily wrote. Professor Wigglyfish picked up the vial, and nodded approvingly at the navy blue mixture. 'You've used practical quantities for the optimum result. I'm intrigued what will become of the salamander blood and mandrake plant combination, potentionally very powerful. Excellent work, 10 points to Hufflepuff!'
[OOC: You may earn more points in the end of the lesson with the testing. Meanwhile, you could add more to your potions if you want.. do more description.. the more good content, the better you'll do. Great posts by the way!]

Post by Jerred Boneman on Mar 11, 2006 13:54:52 GMT
(ooc: I'm making it up as I go along ) Jerred sat at his desk and looked at the vial in front of him. What he saw was a grey potion, possibly a poison. He glanced around nervously, wondering who else had this one. No one did. He sighed as he tried to rack his brain for what poison he had. He gulped then felt an itch on his chest. He scratched it, but brushed by his robes. He looked at his hand and saw his Slytherin symbol, with a snake. He looked at the potion and knew it somehow jogged his memory that it wasn't only a potoin, but a potion that creates petrification, poison and paralysis. He sighed, before taking out the ingredients he hoped he needed. Ingredients: 1/4 Cup of dried mandrake leaves 1/2 a Tooth of Dragon 1/3 Cup of Mandrake juice 1/2 Cup of Dragon Blood 5 live leaches 1 piece of Wormwood 1 small Bezoar stoneHe collected his ingredients and placed them on his desk as he moved towards his cauldron. He felt his stomach muscles clench as he tried to remember the steps. Steps 1. Grind the Bezoar stone with Dragon Tooth and Wormwood until fine enough to be called a dust. 2. Fill Cauldron with Mandrake Juice and Dragon Blood. 3. Add in the ground Bezoar stone, Dragon tooth and wormwood. 4. Stir until mixture turns into a deep red colour. 5. Add Mandrake leaves, stir until leaves have dissipated. 6. Leave to simmer for 20 minutes on a low fire. Jerred waited until the 20 minutes were up before he continued on with the steps of his potion. 7. By now Potion should be a lime green colour, now add leeches into the froth and cook them alive. 8. When leeches are dead, stir 5 times clockwise, 8 times counterclockwise, 10 times clockwise then 40 times counterclockwise. Jerred hoped he had remembered the specific number of rotations needed to get it to it's final colour. He stood and stirred slowly as Prof Wigglyfish came over to him. He gulped with nervousness as he counted 5 time clockwise, 8 times counterclockwise, 10 times clockwise and 40 times counterclockwise. Wigglyfish looked over his shoulder as he watched the lime green colour turn into a deepening crimson colour. He continued with the final 2 steps. 9. Now sit for 5 minutes or until a golden bronze colour.Jerred watched the potion turn from the crimson colour into the golden bronze colour. Now he remembered the final step. 10. Add into vial, carefully pouring it in one drop at a time so it becomes a blue hazel colour.Jerred carefully poured his potion into the vial, seeing the bronze tinge turn blue, then into a hazel colour. He grinned as he topped his vial and showed it to Prof Wigglyfish. "Professor!" He grinned excitedly. "I did it!" (ooc: Ok, that was a doozy to write and think. My head hurts now )

(ooc: I'm making it up as I go along ) [OOC: Thats what I said to do! Sorry for giving you a headache ]Professor Wigglyfish grinned at Jerred as he eagerly handed over his vial. She examined for a few moments, and gave out a chuckle. 'Glad to see someone used the talk at the start for their potion... a bezoar will ensure this antidote is successful: 15 points to Slytherin.' She put the vial down and faced Jerred. 'Wonderful implementation Mr. Boneman, good choice of ingredients - you are going to do well in my little test!'
'Ten minutes left!' She announced to the rest of the class.

Keaira smiled at her potion. She had taken a bit of a risk in hoping that the medicinal herbs would combine well, and it had paid off. 10 points was good enough for her.
(OOC: isn't the Bezoar supposed to be swallowed whole as an alternative to an antidote when the poison is unidentifiable?)

(OOC: Sorry, way to lazy to write anything like they have, but I might later tonight when i'm more awake ) [OOC: Meh. Its up to you. Just means you gets poisoned slightly at the end of the lesson! Lol! And miss out on points.]'Ah, Miss. Redson, better late than never.' The professor said in kind humour as she conjured another vial for the late comer. 'Theres a spare caudron at the back there. We're trying to make antidotes for our individual posions today for a slight test at the end of lesson. There is plenty of time to give it go, and if you have any questions - just ask.'

"Thanks Professor." she muttered and sat in the back by the empty cauldron. She took out her book and opened to posions. She looked at the list the contents gave and smiled to herself. 'This might actually be easy.' she thought. She walked to the supply cabinet taking out a few bat wings, and dragon scales. From her own bag which she had set on the empty chair beside her she took out unicorn blood. She lit a fire under the cauldron and filled it one quarter of the way with water. She looked through her book for the poison Killroin Possession. She looked at the way to make the potion and she was right about how to counteract it. She slowly ripped the bat wings into 5 pieces and set them into the boiling water. Then she poured in about a table spoon of unicorn blood. She waited ten full minutes before adding the dragon scales. The potion began to turn black. She raised her hand for the teacher to see how she was doing for her first time in a class in Hogwarts. While she waited she opened the book again to the poison she had just made an antidote too and read...
Killroin Possession- used for temorary control of the mind and actions.
Ingredients:....
She didn't read on, but looked up for the Professor.
((I'll just make up stuff too.))

The Professor walked up to Alondra, who had been a bit late to class and grinned to see she had made excellent progress in such a short amount of time. She leaned over the desk slightly, and turned the book round so she could see what page Alondra was on.
'Ah. Another one whos found their poison - Killroin Possession.. a particularly interesting but rather dangerous one.' She paused to take a look at her antidote. 'But by the looks of this antidote, you'll have nothing to worry about in the test - 5 points to Slytherin!'

Alondra smiled and then began bottling the antidote. She was quite afraid she wouldn't have been doing so well since she had been late, and because potions wasn't exactly her favorite class. She turned to another page to study some of the poisons and then she raised her hand to ask a question.
