Lisa wrote hurriedly in her notebook, grinning at Ashlee when she noticed her enter the clearing. Then, looking at the creature, her eyes widened.
"Which form of breathing does it use? Oxygen in the air or it's gills?" She asked timidly, her hand in the air, apologizing to Kim when she realized her hand was in close proximity to the girl's face.

The majority of the scales were a bright, shining yellow color, though here and there were a few that had dulled to a dark red. She plucked a few of these, revealing new yellow ones underneath, and handed them around the class. "Thank you Marcavalo. You can go now." the Hippocampus shook its head and dove beneath the water again. "Again, if you don't want to eat the scale you don't have to, you can keep it, or toss it back in the water, its biodegratable the merfolk won't get mad." she said with a smile. She turned to Miss Turpin, "Both... sort of. When it comes out of the water, the Hippocampus can shut off its gills, but for no more than half an hour. Then when its in the water it opens its gills and uses those."[/glow]

Kim held the scale and bit a bit of it. She swallowed it and smiled.. "Its quite nice" she said munching on the rest

Keaira looked at the scales suspiciously, picking one up and biting off half of it. She moved it around in her mouth and swallowed; Kim was right, the taste was rather pleasant.
"Sort of salty," she noted.

Lisa grinned at Keaira, taking a scale in her own hands. "I can't believe you actually ate it..." Then, noticing that the scales weren't slimy nor disgusting in appearance, she looked at it inquiringly.
"Well, actually, maybe I can."

Ashlee laughed at the girls. "Lisa, it's alright. Kim and Keaira are right, It's actually really good." AJ already had a scale in her mouth.

Lisa looked at the scale, her nose scrunching up slightly. Then turning to Ashlee, she grinned. "Well, alright then. But if I die, then you're paying for the funeral," she said before popping a bit of the scale into her mouth.
When she was finished chewing, her eyebrows rose. "On second thought, save that money for some more scales."
