[Lake] Lakeside

[Kim Rivers]

It was a cold July morning, the air was sharp and brisk and the wind was making whistleing noises down her ear. She held onto her coat, feeling like if she didnt it would blow right of her back. Kim had many memories of this place, both good and bad. Though she tried not to dwell on the bad and think more of the good times she had had in the past.

The sun was starting to break through the clouds and shine down onto the lake giving it a reflective surface. She could hear the sound of the forest not to far away, the trees making creaking noises as they bent and twisted in the wind. Remembering the times she had spent in there.

She stood by the side of the lake for a minute, watching as the ripples in the water drifted away from where she was stood, looking at her reflection. She yawned to herself before turning around to walk around the lake a bit, looking for what seemed like a comfy place to just relax for a while.

She hadnt been around much lately, one could almost say she had completley dissapeared. She left halfway through term one and didnt return until now. She could barely even remember anyone from way back when.

Helia had heard some rumours about some sort og 'Lion-toad' living in the lake as of late, and had decided to try and get something from it for her wand making when she saw a distantly familiar figure wandering by the lake edge...

"KIM!!!" screamed Helia, dropping the notebooks and wand casts and field guides she'd been carrying, as much out of shock as to be able to run faster.
She skidded to a halt in front of the Slytherin girl and threw her arms around her, "Where have you been? Why didn't you send me any owls? I've been worried sick about you! Shame on you, Miss Rivers..." said Helia in a rather motherly way... though that didn't last long, as snickers kept escaping her stern face.

Kim heard a familiar voice shout her name. As she turned around in the direction of where the voice came from she noticed an old face. One of her old friends. A smile tugged at the corners of her mouth as Helia came running to her.

She wrapped her arms around Helia giving her a hug, smiling as she asked so many questions to which Kim didnt really know how to answer, "Ive been away thats all... Been travelling around a bit but I got bored and decided to come back" She said in a matter of fact tone "Im sorry I didnt owl you, I didnt owl anybody, I just cut off contact from everyone. There wasnt any reason to be worried though"

"Hmph." Helia said sternly, but a moment later bursted out laughing, "Well I hope you had fun in your travels then. Some absoloute pang of boredness must have hit you to drive you back here..." Helia drifted off slightly. Yes, their school was usually a boring place, but whenever anything happened, everything happened. Luckily, for the moment, the Ministry was being quiet... Or perhaps that was an unlucky thing... No matter. What was important right now was the fact that Kim was back.

"So, how about recalling some of your adventures? No one tells me anything anymore, it's rather a depressing state of affairs..." Helia put the back of her hand to her head and pretended to faint in an overly-mellow dramatic way.

Kim looked around, things hadnt changed a lot since she lft but it seemed the personality of the place had. New people arriving, old people leaving. "Fun in my travels?" Kim asked with a giggle "Well it was alright, thought i might try and learn something about myself, but you know me... I didnt learn a thing just got myself into trouble"

She smiled and thought back to some of the things she had done. "I ran out of money half way through my travels and ended up having to work in a... not so nice club... for about two months to get some money" Kim smirked at Helia as she thought back to those two months in that awful place. "So, what have i missed here?"

"A lot," said Halo bluntly. "After you disappeared first term, a hoard of leviathans attacked, I nearly killed myself casting a Patronus, I was given a wand shop, title of head girl and the quidditch Captainship... Um" helia tapped her wand to her chin as she thoguht "Some Minister of Enlightment came to the school, turned out Bog had multiple personality disorder... Oh, the Minister stripped Bog of his Head Boy title and gave it to Fin, my mind was invaded by some unearthly haunt of the spectors, along with Thom and Novella... though I don't remember if you ever met them or not... I pretty mumch have been running on stress, and now you're back," she smiled as she finished recalling her tale of the last two years. "Oh, I forgot to mention that it seems this Minstry lady is trying to find someway to shut down the school, but hopefully that won't happen."

"A bunch of what?" Kim asked slightly confused. She hadnt ever heard of anything like that before but in a way she was happy to hear that things hadnt changed much. Kim looked down at the floor, being back was weird, she hadnt really wanted to come back but she didnt really have a choice. Still she kept the smile on her face.

"You've opened your own wand shop?" She asked, "That great! Ive still got the wand you made for me" She said pulling it out and showing her, it was still in top condition. There was no scratches on the glass and fenrirs hair was clearly visable through it. "I knew you'd do it eventually, ill help you out if you want so your not as stressed? Be a little worker for your beck and call" she laughed. "So Fin's headboy now? Good on him, how is he?" She asked, she only vaguley remembered Bog, as for Novella and Thom, she didnt even think she had met those two before.

"Leviathans... Icky little shadows that want to eat you... and they aren't all that little," she shuddered. "Fin is... Fin, pretty much," she said with a chuckle, "Showing off his shiny new badge wherever he can, pulling rank at every chance he gets. So, pretty much he's just him with power... Can you think of anything scarier than that, 'cause I can't."

She snickered at the thought of Kim working in her shop. It would be a blast for sure... but how much work she'd get done with Kim there was sure to be a problem. She shook her head, "No, no, I couldn't ask you to do that... Well, I could, but I won't... well... hm," this was a conflicting conversation, "I'm planning on putting up a help wanted sign at some point, if you really want to apply you can, but I'm sure you've got lots of havoc-reeking to catch up on," she said with a smile.

"Oh good god" Kim chuckled at the thought of Fin having power "Actually no i cant think of anything scarier than him having power" She smiled thought because she knew it would be funny to see him show off his shiny badge and put all the first years through so much. "So... things have been trying to eat people... How lovely" Kim said in a sarcastic way.

"Helia... I can multy task you know" She put her hands on her hips and rolled her eyes, "Im sure i could reek havoc and help you in your shop, seriously its no skin of my nose" Then Kim thought for a minute and looked at her "And ive never reeked any havoc! Ive always been a good girl!" She smirked

"Good girl? You're just better at not getting caught is all," she said smugly. "You and me are trouble-makers extrodinaire, and if you try to deny it that'll just make you a liar too!" she stuck her tongue out.
She stood up and sighed, "What is it with all you people and wanting to help in my shop... You, Bog... random others that haven't yet bombarded me with offers," she chuckled, "Och, fine, fine. Besides, seeing as you already speak centaur, and you'll still be allowed on campus next year... You can help in my shop if you absoloutly feel you must..." she said airily, rolling her eyes.

"What does speaking centaur have to do with working in your shop?" She asked with a laugh. "Yeah, ill still be here next year so it could be useful for you" Kim stated, watching as she rolled her eyes, "Well... if you really dont want me to help..." She said in a fake voice, "I guess i dont have to. I'll help if you want me to"

Kim folded her arms and thought back to all the little adventures Helia and she had had in the past, smiling to herself she shrugged, "I guess i am better at not being caught" She shrugged though to herself and said. Kim used to think about all the things she used to get up to with her friends back in the days she was here. Now things seemed to have changed and Kim felt like she was in way over her head if that was even possible for her.

"Bah, you're infuriating, you know that right?" asked Helia teasingly. "Speaking centaur is important because most, if not all, forest creatures understand some form of centaur... and it'll be easier to to teach you how to gaia-speak if I end up needing to," she nodded.

Helia made a face at Kim, then said "Okay, okay, fine. Kim would you please come help me at my shop so I don't spontaneously combust?" she asked, batting her eyelashes sarcastically.
"And you know what, you can just be quiet about being caught less often than me... you haven't been here to be caught," she stuck her tongue out again.

"Yeah but when i was here i didnt get caught half as much as you did" Kim teased. Which was quite true, Kim had only been caught a couple of times and that was only because she made it blatantly obvious that she was being bad.

Kim laughed at Helia "Well then, i cant have you exploding on me now can i? So obviously i will help you, and it will be out of the kindness of my heart" She mocked. Kim had missed being here, she hadnt realised it, she thought travelling had been fun but she had definatly missed being here. "Actually not a lot of things understand the old tongue of the centaur" Kim corrected her, "Its quite a difficult language that has been lost to even most of the centaurs themselves... I thought you would have known that"

"Blah blah blah blah blah..." Helia rolled her eyes, "I said most of them knew some form of the language, I didn't say they'd know what you were saying. As long as they can tell you're trying they probably won't attack you... I think," she smiled at Kim, "I'm sure you'll figure something out though, you're very resourceful, it's how you've kept from getting caught all this time," she snickered.

Kim punched Helia lightly on the arm and laughed, "Only some form, like a word here and there. Maybe in the midst of a sentance they'd pick out a singular word, then again maybe I'd just confuse them"

"I thought it was my pure intelligance, charm, wit and amazing speed that kept me from being caught" Kim said sarcastically. She smiled in a slight way.
