Erin, getting annoyed by the two boys' quarrel with a stupid peice of parchment stood up, making a racket as her chair moved back. She walked to Zach's desk and grabbed the parchment out of his hands. She returned to her desk, the parchment firmly grasped in her left hand and smirked. She raised her other hand after the professor had asked a simple question. "I have Professor." she said.

Thom had been sitting down at the edge of the room under the bizarre half-glass wall. His feet were up on a desk and his hands were joined at the back of his head. 'I think I like this club,' he said aloud, grinning. Thom had watched Liam accio the parchment from the furious Slytherin, and silently commended him for the usual stupidity that Gryffindors were convinced was bravery. He continued to laugh to himself as he watched the magical tennis match until Erin took action and retrieved the parchment for herself. She marched back to her desk and proceed to talk as if nothing had happened. Cow, he thought to himself. She ruins everything!
He watched her gloomily as she spoke sweetly to Professor Emery. 'So do I.' Thom added stiffly. The Daily Prophet was the only thing he ever read.

Zachary was basking in his triumph, when Erin waltzed over to his desk and snatched the parchment from his grip. Letting out an indignant, "..Hey-", he watched her walk calmly back to her seat, not even sparing him a glance.
Glowering, he stared at his quill accusingly before grumpily leaning his head in one of his hands, facing Peakes. You watch your back, Gryffindor. He mouthed, his eyes narrowed.

Emery was a patient man, and had ignored Liam and Zachary's quiet banter, as it was only normal for a Gryffindor and Slytherin to have uneasy ground between them. But it was easy to see by the way his expression was growing more tense, and his eyebrows were creasing just slightly, that his patience was thinning.
It quivered just under breaking point, until Erin finally answered his question. Granted, she had made a spectacle of herself, prancing over and collecting the parchment none too quietly, but he appreciated her contribution.
The crumpled paper, he noticed, was still clutched in her hand and he waved his wand once more, watching as it flew from her fist and landed on his desk with the quietest rustle. Looking at Zachary seriously, he opened up the parchment.
His eyes immediately brightened, and he placed the Daily Prophet back on his desk. "The Quick-Quotes Quills will follow your personality, you see," he said easily. He tossed the parchment lightly into the air, ignoring it as it ran through an invisible shredder before bursting into flame. "Which is why it makes a great writing tool in the first place. However..." His gaze returned to Mr. Daniels. "You may find you need to warm up to them at first."
No one in the class noticed the desk beneath Thom's feet disappear, except said Hufflepuff.
He gazed at the class as a whole, pointedly avoiding Thom's eyes. "Proper posture shows me that you're paying attention to what I say."
Some of the students sent him confused glances, but he only turned back to the prophet in his hands. He read the heading once again, swiftly, before grunting.
A copy of it appeared on each student's desk at once, the heading read:
Minister of Magic visits St. Mungos. Heart-wrenching stories of his annual visit, page 32.
Emery glanced at Helia, with a raised eyebrow, before turning to the rest of the class.
"Will everyone please toss their copy gently in the air... Gently. In the air--" He turned to Zachary Daniels, "Not at another student, please."
As each student did as he instructed, the many copies of the Daily Prophet mimicked the former parchment's journey, first going through an invisible shredder then bursting into flame. He watched this with a calm expression.

Thom jolted as the desk his feet had been propped up on vanished before him. His ankles dropped, hitting the floor loudly, the rest of his body coming forward as his legs weighed him down. His hands were still behind his head as he hit the classroom floor. 'What in Merlin's -' Thom glared about furiously, quickly realising it had been Professor Walton. He gave a childish pout at the teacher.
'I was paying attention, you -' A newspaper landed on Thom's head. He growled furiously and picked it up, lobbing it towards the front of the room in hope that no one had seen. Amazingly it shredded to pieces before it could hit anyone. 'What?!' Thom hissed, wondering how things had deteriorated for him so quickly...

She picked up the Daily Prophet and was about to read through it when she herd they were to throw their newspapers in the air. Gently in the air. She shrugged, picked up the paper, and with a flick of her wrist tossed it lightly into the air. Her eyes glittered as she watched the paper shred to pieces and incinerate itself, "Brilliant..." she muttered under her breath before gazing back up at the teacher, hoping he'd explain exactly what kind of spell that was. She looked about, thinking there would be ashes or cinders or some kind of residue from the burnt newspaper, but none met her eyes. She shrugged, 'Interesting...'

Erin raised an eyebrow and shrugged. She gently tossed her paper in the air and, just like all the others', It burst into flames. "That was freakishly cool" she said. Erin laughed and looked at Zachary with a smile, her turquoise eyes meeting his.

Thom scrambled up onto a chair, making sure he was sitting on it properly this time so as not to be singled out my Professor Walton again. 'What was that for anyway?' he asked. 'I haven't read that issues yet, I could have kept it... what a waste.' he frowned.

Zachary crumpled up the second parchment he had that day, and got ready to toss it at Liam's head, before finding his eyes catch Walton's. He flushed, and tried to manouver his aim so that it looked as if it was there the entire time. Then, he threw it up into the air, not very gently as he didn't think one had to be gentle with a piece of parchment.
When it caught on fire, he instantly backed away, ready to scramble out the door to save his skin if he needed to, but the flames disappeared almost as quickly as they had made an appearance.
Raising an eyebrow, he looked around to see the other students experiencing much of the same thing, before catching Erin's eye. He gazed at her inquiringly, before smirking slightly, and looking back at Walton.

Emery noticed the expectant expressions on his students faces, and he looked almost nervous for a moment. The spell was one he had learned years ago, from a couple of his old friends. It was a great way to destroy things completely, not leaving even the slightest hint that anything was ever there. An incredibly efficient way to hide his tracks from the Ministry...In an instant, he retrieved his calm expressionless state and looked toward Ollivander thoughtfully. "I used to work with the Ministry," He said slowly, clearly enunciating every word and deciding to name another, more legal instance in which the trick had become useful. "They had many papers to discard," he frowned suddenly, his eyes narrowing. "To hide.
He turned to Moen then, finding himself feeling a slight wave of disgust at an excellent example of the Ministry's way of making society accept the Prophet so trustingly. "The Ministry controls the prophet," he said quietly, repressed rage trying to find its way into his voice. "Therefore, it is corrupt, just like the government itself."
He took in a long breath, remembering his short time at the Ministry, before looking at the students calculatingly. "Which is why I have introduced this club in the first place. Don't you see? The Prophet highlights the Minister's so very generous nature," he couldn't help the sarcastic tone that ventured into his voice, "Instead of centering the story around the actual hospital."
He smiled slightly. "We'll make a better, less corrupt newspaper."

Helia leaned forward in her seat slightly. 'So... the Professors got a grudge against the Ministry, hm?' she thought, her mischevous side suddenly quite interested in the new teacher. She wondered if he knew about any of the things that happened to the Ministry over the summer... she presumed they'd probably tried to keep those things fairly low-key. IT would be embarrasing if word got out about what really happened at the Quidditch game. She couldn't help but let out a small snicker before taking a deep breath and assuming a more calm and composed posture, eyes straight forward as she waited to her more from their shockingly intruiguing teacher.

Zachary looked put-out and drifted his attention away from the Professor. The paper was going to be honest, he thought with a roll of his eyes. The professor must have been a Gryffindor in his Hogwarts years.[/color]

Thom felt bitter as the professor cast him a less than approving look about his comment on the newspaper. His face flushed red, and he quickly felt like an idiot - something people made him feel often. He was suddenly feeling rather cold to Professor Walton. What's he trying to do? Change the world with a couple of school children? Honesty is a rubbish policy... he thought to himself, crossing his arms across his chest and glaring out of the window defiantly.

Liam had glared profusely at the Slytherin when the paper was snatched from his hand, but grinned at him smuggly when it eventually landed in the Professor's grip.
Listening to the Professor's speech, he brightened and paid rapt attention. An honest paper, with real news. It was obvious the other students didn't care for it much, especially the Slytherins, but he thought it was a great idea.

Emery gave them all a significant look, before smiling. "The easiest way to do the paper is to split up into partners." He said matter-of-factly, looking back at his desk and waving his wand at it briefly.
His quill shivered for an instant, before lifting up on his own accord and hovering ontop of a blank piece of parchment. He watched it for a moment, waiting until it was finished before taking the parchment into his own hands. "The selection is totally random, and I don't want to hear any complaints about who you're partnered up with."
He looked at the first pair on the list, before raising an eyebrow. "You may find a seating arrangement next to each other, once your partner has been established."
"Liam Peakes and Erin Bella Kennedi. Thom Moen and Zachary Daniels. Hellia Ollivander and Lisa Lycott..."
He watched them all intently, noticing some less than happy looks. "We'll be changing partners each meeting, so you'll have a chance to work with everyone, I should think."
He couldn't help the flicker of excitement that passed through his eyes, and eyed them all with raised eyebrows. "Now, each meeting I'll assign you a new section to complete of the Paper. If you do the work you're assigned each meeting, you'll earn at least 15 points for your house- varying on how detailed they are." He paused, setting his parchment down on his desk and walking behind it to take a seat, for once not towering over his students.
He looked intently at something on his desk top, before nodding. "Before the next meeting, Liam Peakes and Erin Kennedi, will you please interview the Head Boy and Head Girl, and also collect a brief response from each prefect. Thom Moen and Zachary Daniels, will you please interview each Quidditch Captain this term. Helia Ollivander and Lisa Lycott, I'd like you to interview all the New Teachers that have come to Hogwarts, but only briefly, as I don't want to over work you all before the next meeting."
He sent them all a slightly amused glance, before standing up from his desk. "You'll all be notified of the next meeting by owls. Please welcome all your friends to join the newspaper, as new members are most definitely always welcome. Also, please don't forget to sign your name on the sign-up sheet on your way out. " He nodded once, signalling he was done and let them talk amongst themselves.
