Russell ran up the step to the owlery. He had a letter to his darling mother. She had sent him a letter to tell him that his aunt was pregnant ... again. This would be her seventh child because, according to his mother, they wanted a girl and thus far had six boys. Not only that but his aunt and uncle were also very superstitious and six was not their number.
Russell had also found out that his sister, Laurie had just developed another ailment. She had a very weak immune system from being a month and a half premature. He had written her a letter too and was now running up the stairs to the owlery to get them posted. Just before her reached the top of the steps and the entrance to the owlery, Rus bumped into someone...

Ian cried out in surprise as he felt himself collide with another body, just as he was stepping out of the owlery. After a moment of still shock, he pulled himself up off the dusty floor and brushed at his robes absent-mindedly, vaguely noticing a small tear near his shoulder-- which was the result of the material catching on the quill he had quickly shoved in his pocket after one of his tedious lessons.
Gaining a steady footing, he slung his book-bag over his shoulders once more and glanced at the boy with raised eyebrows, "Letter to mum that important?" He said jokingly, almost extending a hand to offer help, but catching the Ravenclaw badge on the boy's robes and remembering the absurd amount of pride the house carried. Instead, he settled for a friendly smile and ran a hand through his hair, out of "dreadful habit" as his own mother liked to say.

Russell was just about to accept the offered hand, when the gryffindor retracted it. No matter! he thought, pushing himself off the dirty floor. When he was standing, dusting himself off, Rus said coolly, "well, as a matter of fact, you're right: this letter," he lifted up his hand and showed the gryffindor his letter, "is an urgent one for my mother. And also my little sister, but that you didn't need to know."
