The common room had been draped in black silk, the usually bright and jolly Hufflepuff badger now grey and silver. Above the fireplace the portrait of the House ghost had been temporarily moved to another wall so that one of Professor Addis could replace it. Thom had been staring at it for a while, unsure of what to make of it. The professor moved occasionally, breaking his pose to scratch his chin or adjust his robes. As of yet he had not spoken, and although Thom knew that his portrait was an entirely different being to the actual Professor Addis, he was still mildly offended that he had not been spoken to yet...
He felt slightly guilty that his last conversation with the man who had guided him from his Hogwarts career had been so bitter and angry. He remembered how the man had stormed from the room, several of his students in complete mutiny in favour of the ministry - Thom having been one of them.
'I'm sorry, sir.' he said out loud, giving a grim smile to the portrait. 'No hard feelings I hope...' he stood up, moving to the window, the portrait still refusing to acknowledge him.

Ashlee stood quietly in the corner of the common room. Tears silently falling from her reddend eyes. She had been crying for days now and still couldn't deal with his death. She jumped at the sight of Thom and hid her tear stained face in her pale hands.

Girty walked into the commonroom with a huge smile on her face. Suddenly as her eyes fell onto the dark silks and the look of the peoples face. The smile vanished.
She noticed that Thom was looking above the fire place to a painting of Professor Addis and a cold shiver ran down her spine. Slowly she walked further into the room and moved closer to Thom. His face was one of disappointment. She had witnessed the last conversation with the Professor and Thom and she knew he must be feeling guilty.
"Thom...are...are you OK?"

Thom looked round at Girty, nodding with a grimace on his face. 'Just feel a bad is all,' he said quietly. He jerked his head over to Ashlee. She had been crying silently against the wall for some time, but as Thom did not know her, he had found it difficult to turn and comfort her. He, as had many people, had heard the rumours of Ashlee and Professor Addis's affections for each other. He wondered if it would be rude to ask her about him.
Professor Addis shifted in his portrait, crossing his legs as if bored. He still seemed determined to stare at the ceiling rather than make eye contact with anyone. 'Stubborn,' Thom muttered, shaking his head.

Ashlee sniffed. "He always was," she whispered. She looked up at Thom. "Stubborn, I mean."
She gave his a faint smile and stood up. Ash headed over to the portrait and stared up at it. "He would never admit it of course," she let out a half-hearted giggle and stared up at the portrait of Leigh Addis.
