Thom grumbled thoughtfully as his quill tapped the parchment balanced on his lap. He was sat on his bed, the cream and gold drapes pulled across loosely, open enough so that he may see anyone who entered the dorm. The Hufflepuff was on edge, for what he was doing surly counted a treason friend-wise.
His head snapped up as the dorm door creaked open, someone coming in unexpectedly...

"I'll speak to you later," Boggleworth called as he walked into his Dorm. He smiled cheerfully as he saw he wasn't alone, "hiya Thom! How are you? Been up to anything exciting today? How's potions these days?" He flopped onto his bed, quite exhausted for the day, but at least he wouldn't have rounds tonight. The news that day had been shocking, but he was quickly coming to terms with it. He smiled warmly at Thom, then realised the look of guilt that was upon his face. "What's wrong?" he asked.

Thom's cheeks burned a violent crimson, and he stared unblinkingly at Boggleworth. 'Nothing.' He eventually said in a quiet voice. His mind was racing in a panic, the quill and parchment in front of him, the inkwell rested on one knee. He now wished he'd fully closed the drapes and pretended he was asleep.
'Just writing a letter home.' he said quickly.
In his attempt to stuff the parchment under the quilt, his accidentally knocked the little inkwell of his knee. 'Bugger!' he swore loudly as the blood-thick liquid splashed over his legs and bedding. 'Of for Merlin's sake!' he hissed, quickly standing up off the bed, the parchment falling to the floor. 'House elf! House elf!'

Boggleworth couldn't help but laugh at the incident that was un-rolling before his eyes, Thom was obviously in a bit of a pickle and he didn't want Boggleworth to see whatever he was writing. So naturally Boggleworth wanted to know what was in it, as Thom cried out for help and began to start clearing up the mess he had made Boggleworth snatched the parchment declaring "tis best to get wahtever it is out in the open air, so it can..." but then he read the words, crestfallen he turned slowly towards Thom. "What's this my friend?" Boggleworth glared at Thom then shook his head reproachfully his anger increasing with every second he thought on it. "Was this the plan from the start? Have you been planning to usurp me?" he growled not wanting a response. "Ha, I thought you were my friend, but who does this to a friend," he shook the parchment in Thom's direction and the flaring words of Head Boy Apllication stood out as bold as brass, Thom never was one for subtelties thought Boggleworth, but I never thought he'd betray me like this. Boggleworth's eyes flashed as he awaiting an explanation from Thom.

Thom gasped as he turned to see Boggleworth holding the parchment, a cold look of contained anger on his face. 'Mate, look... I'm sorry...' he stumbled over his words, trying desperately to find the right combination of guilt and innocence. 'It's just something I've always wanted... since I was a firsty,' he gave a nervous laugh, his face burning ever brighter.
'It's just a stupid letter. I probably won't get it. I'm not going behind your back, mate, honest...' he purposefully made sure his palms were open in honesty, his brow knitted in sorrow, pulling out all the stops to be as convincing as possible.
'Can I... have it back? I promise I'll get rid of it if it hurts you that much, Bog,' he lied.

Boggleworth shook his head fervently "You can't bloody well fool me Thom, I know you better than you know yourself quite probably," as Boggleworth talked he paced the room his face set in anguish. "it just goes to show you value this," he wafted the paper in fron to Thom's nose then quickly withdrew it "more than your friends," he finished. "Whatever I do or say you'll do what you want, but know this mate you've cut me deep, you may as well have plunged a dagger into my chest, in fact that would have hurt less," he said solemnly with a glare. he clenched his fists as his anger slowly bubbled.

Dax rubbed his eyes sleepily and stumbled up the steps to the dorm. He then noticed that the door was ajar and loud voice were going from it. Bog and Thom seemed to be having a fight.
Slowly Dax pushed open the door and entered. A piece of parchment seemed to be causing all the hassle.
"Gentlemen! What is happening here?"
Dax forcefully looked at both of them with a frown on his face. He was angry as he wanted to go to bed, and he had no chance with these two shouting at each other.

Thom had been desperately trying to interrupt his roommate, but had only managed small barks of sound as he was spoken over again and again. His defense was further delayed as the door once again creaked open to reveal Dax standing in the doorway, his face tired and his eyes questioning. Oh bloody hell, thought Thom.
'It's nothing, Dax. Could we have a little privacy, please?' Thom raised his arms to usher the other Hufflepuff out of the room before he could find out what Thom had done. He could handle Boggleworth being angry at him, but two against one he could not.

Dax looked at Thom with tired eyes. "No I'm sorry Thom i can not do that. I came her to have some sleep..so really it is you and Bog who should move."
He slowly ducked under Thom's arms and wondered over to his bed and flopped on it looking at the celling.

Thom stared at him for a moment before frowning angrily. 'You really are a selfish bugger!' he snapped, a second later realising what he himself was in trouble for.
Looking at Boggleworth, he quickly put his apologetic expression back in place. 'It doesn't mean anything, Bog.' he insisted. 'I've... I've been in this school a lot bloody longer than you have! I need this!' he said, placing his hands on his hips, standing his ground.

Boggleworth laughed and couldn't stop himself, here they were good friends divided by something so small "if it means that much then go for it, I just hope you can live with the knowledge of being traitorous to a friend." he laughed "I'm just kidding you'd make a great Head Boy you rascal," he gave Thom a playful shove trying to hide his true feelings of deep sorrow at the betrayal; but he had to move on.

Thom looked at Boggleworth in slight surprise as he was shoved lightly on the shoulder, a small smile of the other boy's face. Thom gave a nervous laugh of appreciation back, but he could not help but feel Boggleworth's suddenly light heartedness was a little too forced, his smile fake. His guilt swelled a little, heat prickling on his face. He wished Boggleworth were still angry rather than trying to contain this strange sadness.
The house elf had been half watching the argument as he had cleaned up. Thom glared at it, knowing their small tiff would probably spread somehow.
Retrieving the letter, Thom wandered off down into the common room, deciding to finish his criminal letter somewhere a little quieter...

As Thom walked out the room Dax let out a huge sigh. "Thank God that lad has finally worked out this room is for sleeping in not plotting."
Dax gave a small laugh before doubt filled his mind. He quickly sat up and looked at Boggleworth. "That was very sportsman like of you Bog. You have let him get away with it."
Dax sat blinking at Boggleworth for a while before all the strength being sapped out of him and he feel back onto his bed.
