Faye entered the staffroom, looking around disappointedly to find that once again Leigh was no where to be found. She had been searching high and low all evening to find him, having already checked his office, lodgings and even as far as the lake in hope of coming across him before she left.
In two hours her train from Hogsmede London would be leaving. She would have preferred it if she had simply been allowed to aparate to her destination, but recent Ministry activity in and around Hogwarts and in central London had prevented Faye from being so liberal.
A single candle burned on one of the rickety tables by a squashy pink chair. It looked as though someone had recently been sat in it - a tattered old book lay open on the floor in front of it, as if someone had stood up and let it slip from their lap without thinking. Tired and drained of hope, Faye stepped slowly over to the chair and threw herself down in it, draping her arm across her eyes as she sighed loudly. 'Leigh, where are you?' she whispered, on the verge of tears.

Red faced and panting as he ran back into the staff room, Leigh burst into the room, sweat pouring off his forehead and staining his clothes. He had forgotten an old book that he grew fond of reading as it resided inside of the staff room when he was on breaks. Upon arrival he found someone whom he had not seen in days, weeks even, her eyes swollen with tears. Leigh saw Faye, his eyes washing over the woman who had once being his near lover. He looked at her, the sorrow that filled her face, her eyes, her body.
He breathed in deeply, before speaking. 'Why the tears?' He asked, wanting to know why she was crying. He stepped towards her, then paused, awkwardly feeling tension inside of the room. He looked at Faye, studied her expression and he realised that the rumours about her departure were true. He turned from a soft tone, to a serious tone in his voice, his dislike her for departure evident.
'Why? Because of the ministry? Because of outspokenness? Because of my past dealings with them? Why, with the love of Merlin, would you leave at a critical time like this!?' Leigh said, not exploding but raising his voice, but not in anger.

Faye had stood up as he had entered, a tearful smile of thankfulness on her face. She had stepped toward him with her arms slightly raised, beckoning an embrace, but as his face turned to stone she stopped. She suddenly felt angry, victimised. 'We cannot all fight, Leigh!' she said, her voice full of hurt. 'I believe it standing up for yourself just as much as you, but it is stupid to go on so blindly when all the odds are staring you in the face! I'm not in control of my fate, anymore, Leigh... they are...' her arms folded across herself, settling for a self-embrace.
'If I had nothing to loose, then I would stay. I would be with you! But they have a lot they can take from me, and they've already got it in their grasp, Leigh...'
More tears shone on her face, and a helpless sob escaped her lips.

Leigh felt her words strike him in the heart, his mind being taken back by her words. Leigh looked away, ashamed, but then determination set in.
'The odds are against me, indeed, but if there is one thing that I've always managed to do is overcome them. I don't care about the Ministry, I only care about the Ministry coming to a place where I feel safe, a place where my friends are, a place where I can be me without having to hide behind pretences.' Leigh said, defending himself, but then softening as he looked at her, he smiled. 'You won't lose me, nor will I let them take whatever is already in their grasp. The school is free, and will be for however long as I am a Professor here, no Ministry official has graced these walls before being ran out by the insaneness of the students... and Professors.'
Leigh stepped forward, putting his hands on her waist warmly. 'Whatever it is you fear, you don't have to run away from it, as I'm here, here to help you face it.'

Faye looked up into his face for a moment, searching his eyes for everything he felt. After a moment she let out a shallow breath of defeat and let her forehead fall against his chest. She slipped her arms around his ribs, pressing her hands to his back as if she might be forced to somehow let go. 'That would be an ideal world, Leigh.' she said into his robes, a few more sobs escaping her lips. 'Sticking together does not always pull through.' she said truthfully.
She turned her head to look out of the staffroom window. The sun had gone down a while ago, although a smear of orange and violet still remained on the horizon. 'I am going to miss Hogwarts,' she said quietly. She looked up at him again. 'Will you miss me...?'

'The question you should ask yourself is, will you miss me? Because therein lies your answer.' Leigh replied quietly, resting his head against hers. Leigh closed his eyes, wishing she wouldn't leave, but he knew it in his heart she would be. 'I will be miss you.'
He looked out the window, a tear rolling down his cheek. The Ministry is to blame, the Ministry is at fault! The Ministry will pay with their lives! Leigh swore to himself, his eyes narrowing. He tried not to pull Faye tighter into him, but a part of him felt like it failed.

Faye felt Leigh's chest heave gently. He was doing his best to keep his emotions under control, to fight the rage she knew was burning inside him, started so long ago by the heartlessness of the world and it's powerful...
She placed her hands on his shoulders and looked up into his eyes mournfully. 'Yes, I will miss you.' she said, the sheer truth of it almost more than she could bare. She began to sob again. 'More than you will ever know!'
The last rays of the sun caught a mirror behind Leigh, and she looked over his shoulder and into it, staring at herself, her eyes red, her arms embracing him desperately. She tore herself from the image, knowing that only Leigh's face would keep her together. On tip toes she kissed his lips tenderly. 'Take care of yourself, Leigh. Be careful how you pick your battles, for you cannot win all of them.'
She stepped away, her arms falling to her sides. She felt his hands leave her hips, and it felt almost ghostly, as if a apparition had just passed through her, cold and faint. A dark, heavy feeling in the pit of her stomach told her she would not see Leigh again.
'Goodbye...' she sniffed, turning swiftly out of the door, her raven hair catching the sun as she disappeared forever...
