She was mad. Well maybe pissed would better suit her mood at this moment. Whatever the case, she was out for blood. Once again, her wonderful twin brother had helped himself out to her possesions. This time, it was her limited edition of Unfogging the Future by Cassandra Vablatsky. It was even signed for Laney and for some unknown reason, Ashton now has it.
Delaney tried his office but it was empty. She was even tempted to go through his things there but knowing Ash, he'd have some traps set up for her. Instead, Laney left and continued to wander around the castle. She checked the great hall, who knew, maybe Ash got hungry. But once again she came up empty handed. To the lake it was then. Laney knew it was one of his favorite places.
Scanning the horizon as she neared the lake, she spotted the familiar mane of raven black hair. She stopped in her tracks and sent a deadly glare Ashton's way. Maybe it was immature of her but Laney got the sudden urge to hex him. No, that was child's play and Laney was now an adult. At least in age.
She made an effort to stomp towards him so he could hear her coming.
"I believe you have something of mine, Brother," she accused through gritted teeth.
Laney made of show of placing her hands on her hips and tapping her foot as if she was highly impatient. Ok, she was highly impatient, but it was her favorite book. Another lie, it was just her most valued book. She let out a small groan and let her head fall back so she was looking at the sky.
"Just give it back please, Ashton!" she whined.

Ash turned and looked up at his sister, with a confused expressiion. "Lane, what in the name of Merlin are you talking about? I don't have anything of yours. And even if I did, you're not getting it until I get my favorite hoodie back. You're just as much of a thief as I am, you brat."
Of course Ash called her Lane just to get her riled up. He knew she hated being called Lane. It was the easiset way to annoy her. And while the twins were adults physically, whoever said anything about them being adults mentally? Fact was, they still bickered and picked on each other like they did when they were kids. Probably always would.
"I mean seriously Lane, how many times do I have to tell you, don't touch my clothes!" with that, Ash turned around to enjoy the peace and quiet once more. Or at least.. he thought that was what he'd be doing. He should've known better with his little sister around...

It was hopeless. If Ashton did have the book, she wasn't going to get it back anytime soon. She might as well take the loss and move on, but knowing Laney, she wouldn't be able to but she was going to try anyway. Ashton brought up the hoodie and Delaney made a face. She had forgotten she still had that. Last time she wore it was during the summer when Laney went to visit Nick as he did some summer studying in Milan, Italy.
"I'll drop your hoodie off later today if it will make you feel better." Laney sighed as she sat down near Ashton. She had had a scheming smile on her face when she suddenly had the idea of making Nick drop it off for her. She could always use some lame excuse on him as to why she couldn't do it herself. She was going to make those two talk sooner than later.
Laney looked out at the lake. There was still a thin layer of fog dancing on the surface in the deep and it made the lake look more mystical. "It's really pretty out here today. Cold, but pretty." Laney turned to her brother with a grin, "Remember when I pushed Nick into the lake that year after Christmas? We were like the only Ravenclaws still at the castle during the holiday break." Laney snickered. Of course, they never did go home during the winter breaks. Anything to stay away from their father.
Laney nudged Ash with her shoulder, "Don't tell me you don't remember. You were just as guilty as I was back then, she laughed and shook her head as she stared back out at the lake.

Ash smirked when Laney said she'd drop off his hoodie. "It would make me feel much better." And it did. At least... until he figured that knowing Laney she'd bribe... she'd bribe... Nick... into doing it...
Merlin, it'd been a year and Ash stll couldn't even think his ex bf's name without tears stinging his eyes. The last memory Ash had of Nick was of him packing his bags to leave for Milan.
As much as Ash tried to pretend he'd moved on and didn't care anymore, truth was... he hadn't. Yes, he was happy with Tyler. But honestly? He'd been even happier with Nick.
Nick being a teacher now as well would make things even harder. Seeing as there was a very good chance of them crossing paths on an almost daily basis. Stilll, both Ash and Laney had learned to put on brave faces in times of pain. Whether that pain was physical or emotional.
He barely paid attention to what Laney was saying. Something about throwing Nick into the lake.
"Yeah. I remember." he answered quietly. Almost subdued.

Maybe Laney shouldn't have brought up Nick, but it was kind of hard not to seeing as he was her best friend. Sometimes Laney just forgot that Ash and Nick weren't speaking and of course, this was one of those times. It wasn't like she was trying to torture her brother or anything by bringing up Nick, but seeing as he was back at Hogwarts and a fellow Professor none the less, Ash needed to get accustomed to hearing his name again.
Delaney stared at her brother. Either he didn't really remember or he wasn't paying attention to her at all. She bit her lip nervously, Maybe it was still too soon to talk about Nick. You would think a year would be long enough, especially since Ash was with Tyler, but Ash wasn't normal to that standard. Laney has a tendency to forget her ex's mere weeks after the breakup and moves on to the next but Ash was not her.
Laney scooted closer to her brother and rested her head on his shoulder. "what's on your mind, Dear Brother?"
Ash would have to talk about it sooner than later. She just hoped it was to her. Laney knew how Ashton got when he held his feelings in. It would lead to a major freak out over something so small and Laney would rather deal with tears now than end up at the wrong end of Ashton's wand when he flipped.
"You know, he asked about you the other day," she whispered. Maybe that would start him talking. After all, it was true.

Ash just shrugged. "Nothing reallly." It was clear that even though there was something bothering him, he wasn't willing to talk about it just yet. That was Ash though. He'd always been one to keep things locked up. With his dad, it had become a survival mechanism. Never show fear. Never show pain. Never show grief. Never show sadness.
Even now, four years after they had escaped from him, Ash still felt the need to protect Laney and he still felt like he had to keep that mask of bravery on. He still felt that he had to be strong and not let anyone see how he really felt.
Sometimes what he really needed was for Laney to just push him to talk. Because if she didn't he would let things fester until eventually he exploded. This was one of those times when he needed his twin to keep bugging him about it and make him talk.
He was surprised to hear that Nick had asked about him. "He did?"
