Delaney Michelle Laurent
"Laney"
"Laney"
Job Title: Hogwarts Librarian
Age: 20
Blood: Pure-blooded
Wand: 9 1/2 inch Rosewood, Dragon Heartstring
Personality:
Delaney is a pretty bubbly young woman. She tries to see the positive in everything because of her past. Of course, depending on who's around her, her personality can vary widely. She can be pretty manipulative and cruel to her enemies. She's also one that tries not to lie, that doesn't mean she wouldn't deceive you though. Laney tries to be a know-it-all when it comes to books. She's a speed reader so she likes to brag about all the books she's read.
Delaney can become very insecure about herself. She questions a lot of her actions and can be pretty indecisive when it comes to making major decisions. She's not very independent and can be seen following either her twin brother around or her best friend Nick. Laney is very devoted to her work and often puts it before other aspects of her life. This devoids her of a personal/romantic life but as long as she has her books, Laney doesn't mind.
History:
Delaney is a twin. The second child born to Daniel and Celine McLane. Like her brother, Delaney's last name wasn't always Laurent. She was born a McLane just like Ashton and upon turning of age, changed her last name to Laurent like her brother. Growing up in the McLane family wasn't all cake and ice cream, although Laney would've loved it if life was infact cake and ice cream. When she and her brother turned 5 years old, her father started down a slippery slope. Maybe it was grief over losing his wife after the twins were born or maybe it was the stress of raising twins by himself that finally caught up with him. Whatever the reason, Daniel McLane became an unstable parent.
It started small, longer time-outs or more spankings when they were naughty. And escalated, in Ashton's case, to regular beatings. Of course, Laney couldn't escape the punishments either no matter how many times Ashton tried to take her place and was often bruised more times than she can remember. Of course, Daniel always waited until Ashton was out of the house to take his anger out on his daughter.
With a life like that, who could blame the twins from trying to run away a few times? Of course, they never got very far thanks to her father's hired help. Ash would get the physical punishment while Laney endured days locked in her room and listening to Ashton's cries of pain. Listening to that always made it worse for Laney and she would sometimes cry herself to sleep, especially when Ash would take the punishment for her. It felt like she was being struck by her own personal whip whenever Ash was beat.
When Ash turned 16 and was emancipated, Laney followed in her brothers footsteps and was emancipated a few short weeks later. Moving in with her brother was probably the best day of her life. It meant an escape from the torturous life she lived before. Of course, Laney didn't know what to do with herself at first. She started substituting one pain for another and became addicted to tattoos. It wasn't until her brother threw a book at her one day for annoying him that she found another escape: books.
