Angelique was having one of those days, you know the kind where nothing goes right and where everything that could go wrong does go wrong. It started from the moment she had woken up this morning she reached out to turn off her alarm clock and somehow fell right out of bed landing face first onto the floor almost breaking her nose. She had been bleeding so bad from the nose she feared it might just be broken, but once she used magic to stem the blood flow she realized she hadn't at least that had gone alright. Then when she showered and dressed she realized that the blouse she was wearing had a huge hole in it there was a damn moth in her apartment eating up her clothes. She spent half an hour trying to track the thing down before she found it and burned it to a crisp, but in her determination to capture the nasty bug she hadn't realized she was now late for work. She swore as she ran out the door in a new change of clothes, high heeled black stilettos, her hair in a messy bun, and a small bit of makeup on. She grabbed a jacket just as the door to her flat began to close.
So now on top of everything else Angel is late for work and her boss certainly notices. Had this been her first offense she probably would have gotten away with just a small warning but of course this was the third time in two months so a little warning wasn't going to cut it. Nope she spent half hour in her boss' office getting lectured about lateness and how bad it looks, how it won't be tolerated, and how Angel needs to shape up or ship out. All she could do was nod and act as if she actually agreed. See Angel needed this job because she had a falling out with her parents and she was cut off so she had to make her own money now and that meant putting up with crap from a good for nothing looser like her boss.
Then she spent 5 hours dealing with nasty customers, drooling brats and her boss breathing down her neck every five minutes. If people could only see the rich girl now. When her shift was finally over and she could leave hell she had to go to the ministry for a few hours for training because working in the department of mysteries took extensive training and they would only take the best of the best. By the time she was done her brain was addled and she simply wanted to go home and crash but she also wanted a drink so she could make the miserable day she had vanish.
Walking into a local pub she took a seat right at the bar and ordered a whiskey which she drank in seconds before ordering another. The batman nodded at her and gave her the once over. Despite her miserable day Angel was still very attractive with her blonde locks, blue eyes, and curvaceous body. There were a lot of men who openly noticed her while she was sitting there but she took no notice of them all she wanted was another drink. When she got the next one she took her time with it to savor it a little. While she was watching the little beads of condensation form around the glass she heard the door and for some reason turned her head in time to see a familiar figure enter the place. It was Erys Grace her close friend from Hogwarts. The two had lost touch but tonight "Erys" Angel shouted one hand in the air flagging the other girl down not caring that people were gawking at her.

The slender curve of a bone-china wrist fluttered fingertips over the brittle, paperback novel, and a disgust too defeated and deflated to be even called a distinct emotion lingered heavily in her eyes. A sudden intake of breath rattled air into her stale lungs, the reaction awkward and mechanical in comparison to the dulled brilliance of a woman once roaring and crackling with life. She was reduced by the milky embers of memory, and time; the loneliness was effortless. In maintaining herself away from the normality of her Hogwarts existence she had succeded in secluding herself, not only from her occupation but her friends, and her love, if he could even be called. There were no words for the distance between them, and even if she could banish the thought from her mind the pain would still linger.
There was no place for her anymore. A hate wroiled so deeply in Erys' heart for this place, where she had carefully carved herself a belonging for so many years only to have it ripped from around her. She was cast off into the world without so much as a glance behind her at the familiar that was no longer hers. This knowledge was not fresh in her mind now, it had long since permeated and festered there, kicking up thoughts of doubt and uncertainty: Where would she go now? What would she do? What place was there for her? Erys, growing wary of Hogwarts now, desired a different occupation that took her far, far away from here.
This brooding took her into Hogsmeade and the desire for drink dragged her into a pub, where a woman was frantically waving at her and shouting her name. Erys' eyes flashed for a moment before realization kicked in and she recognised her old friend Angel. Within seconds she was near, sitting beside her fellow former Slytherin and wrapping her arms around her in a frighteningly uncharacteristic hug. "Its been ages." She mused, ordering herself a whiskey and taking a hearty swig, satisfied by the sudden warmth that tickled its way down her throat. "How have you been?" By the looks of her friend, however, it seemed they were on the same emotional wavelength, for the time being at least.

Angel didn't deny she was a bit shocked by Erys' reaction. Not that they didn't like each other or something like that, quite the contrary they had been pretty good friends when they were in school but they had never shown each other that kind of affection before. It's not that she minded so much. Had it been anyone else it might have been a problem but Erys was different so she hugged the woman back happy to see a familiar face. It had been so long since Angel had seen or heard from Erys she wondered what the other girl had been up to. Angel didn't want to loose touch with friends but unfortunately life had taken a turn for her and she was too busy to have much of a social life anymore. So it was cool to see a familiar face.
Erys ordered a firewhiskey, Angel grinned and watched her take a sip knowing exactly how it would feel when the liquid made its way down her throat. Angel loved that feeling sometimes she'd have a lot of firewhiskeys just to keep experiencing that feeling, or so that's what she would tell herself when she was busy getting drunk off her bum. That was what she wanted to do now but then again she had responsibilities so she couldn't be out and about getting toasted whenever she wanted. Then again when two old friends ran into each other who knew what could happen.
Erys asked how she was doing and Angel thought about lying. It would have made more sense or at least that's what the old Angel would have done but since it was Erys..."It's horrible actually" she admitted to the other woman. Angel took another sip of her whiskey. "No one tells you how different life is going to be once you graduate, nor do they tell you how evil parents can be" she added bitterly thinking of the two people who raised her. "How about you how is your life going lately?"

The shockwave rippled against the sensitive nerves of her skin, seeming to lift the hairs on the nape of her neck in a sensory-filled gesture that fell so far into familiarity she nearly purred. Uncommon, to find comfort in unsettlement, though unpredictability was becoming her specialty as of late. "I apologise if I seem.. Out of character." Erys' lips parted in a quick grin, an expression rare save for the trusted few. "Its been a while since I needed to lace my armor." She was certain Angel would understand--they were two of a feather, kindred and welcomed in the other's presence as the sun is welcomed by the flowers. Perhaps she might have used a more feral example, if she had been unable to get her mind off of predator and prey. But she couldn't, and therefore wouldn't, use that analogy, it didn't fit with their relationship at all. Not for a friend.
She nodded as her comrade spoke, eyes flashing for a moment as recollection touched each iris. "I know.. I would have appreciated a warning for what life was going to be like. The moment realization hit everything was different, it was like a slap in the face." She paused, then with a furtive smile added, "More like a punch, actually. What have your parents done?" She was well aware the high percentage of prospect for evil parentage, lucky enough to have an appropriate relationship with her mother, nevermind the other half of that long-since terminated marriage. Taking a healthy swig of her drink and rapping her fingernails against the counter, hoping the bartender would take that as a suggestion for another round, the former Slytherin blinked slowly, perking her interest back towards Angel. "Theres always the pressing need for a better occupation.. How is the ministry for employment?"

Angel couldn't help but watch her old friend. Erys was a force to be reckoned with when they were in school together. No one messed with her, no one dared. Angel didn't see that same spark in her the one that would incite fear in so many. Apparently she wasn't the only one whose life wasn't going the way she planned. As Erys mentioned not being herself Angel nodded realizing that she was right. She had been out of touch with the other girl for so long she had no idea of her life now, and she was suddenly feeling sorry about that. Angel could understand how she was feeling. That's why the two of them had gotten on so well in school Erys and her were two of a kind whether they wanted to admit it or not. That's why Angel had enjoyed the other girls company so much when they were in school. She was one of the few people who didn't look past Angel, which a lot of people used to do.
"Yeah a punch to the gut followed by an uppercut" Angel said nodding vigorously. "They didn't like my life choices so decided that unless I do what they say I have to fend for myself. So I'm fending for myself doing things I hate, which is as they say supposed to give you character all it gives me is a headache. But I suppose I need to act like a big girl for once. But the ministry pay sucks and working at that nasty restaurant is giving me grief" she said glad that another round of drinks was ordered.
"The ministry is good I just wish the training wasn't so long I would love to be able to quit that good for nothing job" she sighed looking at her friend, "What about you? What's been going on, and why do you look like you've had better days?"
