The hour was late. Midnight at least. Maybe later. The winter air was cold, harsh, and unforgiving. The depths of the Forbidden Forest were dark, and eerily silent. The feeling that something might've been watching you, was thick in the air. Then again, with the Forbidden Forest, there almost always was something watching the inhabitants of the dark, mysterious woods.
Ash had not been able to sleep tonight and deciding to go on a little walk, now found himself wandering deeper and deeper into the forest. He knew well the dangers that lay hidden within its depths. But he also knew that as long as he kept his wits about him, and stayed alert, he should come to no harm. Which was why tonight as he trudged through the snow, kicking up little drifts of white as he went along, his senses were on hyper-alert. Every sound, every sight, every smell seemed to be magnified ten-fold tonight.
Ash didn't survive a life of hell by being stupid or unobservant. He knew that someone else was in the forest as well. They might not've been following him, but they were near by. An older student from the sound of it. The footsteps were soft and quiet. A younger student would've just plundered through the foliage, with no sense of stealth whatsoever.
Finally Ash sighed and turned in the direction the footsteps were coming from. "I know you're there." he called out.

Being a seer and a slytherin, Catherine thought it was a total blessing and not a curse. She had heard of horror stories of seers being driven mad by their own visions and ended up mentally torturing themselves. For her, it was easy. Whatever she saw, she kept to herself, like ammunition for a later date; perhaps when she needed it in a fight or flight situation. As she was sat inbetween the window pillars in the courtyard, observing the moon in the sky, the snow thick and pearly white like a carpet on the concrete, she sat in silence, her own thoughts occupying her mind like her own little tea party inside her head. It was as she closed her eyes for a second she caught sight of him in her minds eye, stalking the woods almost innocently. She smirked and pushed herself lightly from between the pillars and skipped once, making her way silently towards the forbidden forest...
She continued to watch him in her mind as he walked out of the castle, and by the time he had made it to where she had been, she was already at the forests mouth. Tilting her head, she pulled her wand and smirked, whispering 'Lumos Maxima' and watching the bright light extend from the end of her wand, spilling and enlightening the forest a good distance. Being careful of her step, she entered the greenery, eyes narrowed in search of a nearby tree she could climb. Spotting one a few minutes in, she climbed it and sat on the lowest thickest branch, being well hidden by the leaves. She sat patiently and quietly for a moment before she saw him just about to enter the woods. "Nox" she whispered, and suddenly, she was in pitch blackness.
She heard him now, his footsteps crunching the blanket of snow and she bent down slightly to get nearer to the sound. Smirking for a split second, her face suddenly went blank as she went blind with a future vision blocking her eyesight.... Unaware she had grabbed hard onto the tree branch and made it move, creating sound...

As Ash passed under a tree, he heard the rustle of leaves. Stifling a gasp of shock, he looked up. He could just barely make out the silhouette of a student. A girl. 6th or 7th Year maybe. What was she doing up in a tree? "Are you okay?" he called up in a low voice, not wanting to startle he by being too loud.
When she didn't answer, he grew a little concerned. "Are you okay?" he called again, louder this time. Still no answer. Ash decided to wait until she snapped out of whatever trance she was in, and leaned against the tree underneath her.
He wasn't unaccustomed to meeting other students out here in the Forest. Kids always wandered around in its depths. The interesting thing, was seeing who you ran into...

Her visions had temporarily blinded her. The bright lights and flashing images of bits and pieces of the future moulded together, playing infront of her eyes like patchwork quilt of old movies. Her eyes flickered rapidly as she tried to take the rush of visual information all in at once, and the sheer panic it made her feel made her feel faint. She lost conciousness for a few seconds, and she fell....
She crushed herself into a mixture of dirt, abandoned leaves and the tree's roots. The pain she currently did not process has almost crippled her left side of her body as the weight of her crashed down onto the ground. The visions slowed and the inside of her eyelids turned black, the feeling you got while searching in the dark. She mumbled incoherently, possibly inaudibly and it was then the pain hit her.
She grimaced in agony, feeling the bruises already starting to rise the the surface of her skin. She attempted to pull herself up but failed. Words failed her, and she simply looked at the boy for a moment before her eyebrows knitted together and she clenched her teeth partially in pain, and partially in embarrassment. She just sat there, feeling a little helpless for one of the only times in her life. "I'm fine, by the way" she snapped dryly at him, her pale grey eyes flicking up to his.

Ash couldn't help but wince as the girl tumbled to the ground. Ouch. That's gonna smart tomorrow he thought to himself. Personally, he had never fallen out of a tree, but he figured it had to hurt.
When she snapped at him, he merely raised an eyebrow. A few years ago, a reaction like that would've upset him, but now he really didn't give a damn. If she wanted to be crabby, oh well. Not his problem.
"Okay. See ya later then" he replied calmly as he turned, walking further into the woods. He really didn't care what she did. He just wanted to have a peaceful walk in the woods. Peaceful walk. In the Forbidden Forest. Yeah. Riiight.
That little wish was killed soon enough. When he ran into an acromantula. He didn't even see the gigantic spider until he was almost underneath it. Then he screamed bloody murder. The spider hissed angrily, rearing up on its hind legs, front legs and fangs slashing at the air. Ash stumbled back, falling to the ground. The spider advanced as Ash scrambled back, searching for his wand that had somehow flown out of his grasp. He spotted it nearly ten feet away. He'd never get to it in time. I am so screwed he thought. The spider came down nearly on top of him, he just barely managed to roll out of the way.

She grumbled. Her stupid pride was getting in the way of letting him help her, but she was stubborn and head-strong. Besides, she had her wand, why would she need some stupid boy to help her? She huffed as she struggled to pull her wand from her back pocket, inwardly thankful that she hadn't landed on it and snapped it into pieces. It would of been just her luck.
She never even watched as he walked away from her, leaving her alone in the Forbidden forest. She was seething with anger and pain and she just sat there for a moment, mustering the energy and courage to pick herself up and get herself back to the castle with as little movement and agony as possible. As she stumbled into an upright position, she heard an almighty scream and froze as the blood curdling panic rose from his throat and filled her ears. It was so loud and reoccuring on the echo that she thought he'd deafened her eardrums. Her ears stopped ringing and her vision focused on the boy now on the floor...an intrusively giant spider crawling towards them.
"Move!" she shouted just as he rolled away from the Spider, it's fangs snapping at the floor. She flicked her wand at it, almost losing grip as her stance created pain to rush down her side. She winced. "Impedimenta!". The spider slowed down. It's movements prolonging the outcome of this event. Catherine's eyes flicked to Ash and saw he was defenceless. "Accio Wand!" she blurbed loudly, her left arm numbing from the fall. "Here, hurry up!" She said, holding his wand in her left hand, pointing it towards him to grab. The spell wouldn't hold the Spider off going slowly for long. They needed a more long term option.
"You got any ideas, brainiac?" she asked, her wand and eyes both fixated on the slow moving giant beast infront of them. Yeah, this could end badly.

Why the hell didn't do that? Ash thought as the girl slowed the giant beast with Impedimenta Oh, that's right. My wand is ten feet away Ash snatched his wand as the girl held it out to him. "Thanks!" he stared incredulously as she asked him if he had any ideas.
"Yeah, here's an idea. Run! There's no way in hell we can beat that thing!" he yelled as he scrambled to his feet. The Impedimenta was already wearing off and the spider was advancing once more. Think! Think! Ash screamed to himself. What could stop a huge, blood-thirsty spider? The Patronus Charm! Yes!
"Expecto Patronum!" a giant silver wolf burst from the tip of Ash's wand, charging the giant freak of nature. The spider hissed and shrieked angrily, rearing back on it's hind legs and then scampering back. Well, it sounded like it shrieked anyway. Whatever the hell that sound was it was damn creepy.
"Come on! Let's go!" Ash shouted, grabbing at the girl's sleeve. "We need to get out of here before Mr. Spidey decides to come after us again!"

She stood there, in complete agony, attempting to cradle her left side and her stance altered so she was a little more comfy if that was even possible. She stood slightly lopsided and arched, her hair messily decorated with flecks of mud and brown leaves. She narrowed her eyes and took a deep breath in. Her eyes gazed at the boys wand as he pointed it straight at the beast and her raised her voice, dressed in panic.
"Whatthehellareyoudo-" she shouted over the noise of the gigantic Arachnid. Too late, he's already summoned a patronus and she watched as the silvery wolf barked and snapped at the spider, scaring it back, twitching. It barked and barked in a muted pitch until it began to fade and she could feel the boy pulling at her sleeve.
She snatched her arm away from him, almost disgusted that he dared touch her. There were many reasons she didn't want him to touch her, but at that moment she didn't want skin on skin contact incase any visions from his future blinded her. It could of meant a fatal for both of them. "Don't touch me!" she snapped, her teeth grinding behind her lips. Her sudden jolt of movement sending a pulse of pain shooting through her arm. She sucked in through her teeth, and one lone tear rolled down her cheek.
"There's no way in hell I can run, you moron. I can barely move!" she shouted at his ignorance. "And Ravenclaws are meant to be smart" she muttered under her breath. Her eyes lingered back on the spider now, and her mind spun through various spells that she could remember... Avis, no, that would be like feeding the damn thing. Conjunctivitis? Would that even work on a spider? Densaugeo, Definately not! It's teeth were big enough... Ah ha!. Her wand pointed at it's legs now and she smirked. "Locomotor Mortis!". Zoom. A flash of green tinted light sped from her wand tip and straight at the Spider. It's legs tightened and eventually stiffened one by one.
"I don't know how long this will last, so move. Move!" she said impatiently, pushing him towards the direction of the castle. She wouldn't be able to walk back without getting eaten by this thing, they needed help and quick. "Go get me some help". Her eyes, and wand never leaving the direction of the spider.
