Ash hadn't eaten all day, and as it was now towards the middle of the night, he decided to put down the book he'd been reading, and head towards the kitchen to find a little something to munch on. Tickling the pear as required, he entered the kitchens and was immediately greeted by the tiny elves.
"Good evening, Mr. Ashton, sir!" they greeted him familiarlly as he had spent much time here and had gotten to know them just as he knew his own houselves back home.
"Hi everyone" he greeted cheerfully, with a smile. They were always so helpful.
"What would Mr. Ashton like, tonight?" asked a tiny elf, named Millie.
Ash smiled at her, "I'm not really sure, Millie. Why don't you surprise me?"
"Millie would be pleased to!"
Ash chuckled at the little elf's excitement and went to sit at one of the many tables. Before he knew it, he was being shown a feast of pasta, grilled chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, and grilled shrimp. All of his favorites. And a bottle of merlot. He didn't drink as much as his dad did, but he did enjoy a glass of wine every now and then. He grinned at the elves. "Looks awesome everyone. Thank you!"
After the little creatures had beamed their pleasure at pleasing him and bowed away, assuring that they would be nearby if he needed anything, Ash dug into his snack. Or, maybe meal would be the better word.
As he was eating and drinking, he heard someone else come into the kitchen but didn't think much of it. Students and teachers were always in and out for snacks and such.

It was the middle of the night and Max couldn’t sleep. The only thing he could think of was food. He’d eaten his fill at dinner but apparently his stomach wasn’t quite as full as he thought it was as it gave a loud grumble making Max turn over in his bed, pull the pillow over his head and shut his eyes tightly. The only problem was his stomach felt that empty that it was painful to lie in any position at the moment. After a while, he gave up trying to sleep with an aggravated sigh and threw the covers off him.
Grabbing his wand and a jacket, Max tried to stay quiet as he left the dormitory and made his way into the cold corridors. The way to the kitchens was no secret to him, he’d often plundered the stores there, the house elves were ever so useful, they were always ready to ply you with more food than your stomach could actually handle, it was amazing. Max loved it immensely. Yet, he often left with his stomach even more uncomfortable than when he actually entered.
He kept his wand low as he walked, the last thing he wanted was to disturb any sleeping professors or any portraits. Portraits could turn nasty if you really annoyed them. He finally made it down to the picture and tickled the pear --while scratching his own nose-- and walked through. He was instantly met by an onslaught of house elves. Max raised his arms in an ‘I surrender’ sort of way before turning his eyes around the kitchen. He hadnt thought anyone else would be here, but his eyes found the familiar raven hair of one Ashton.
Now it was common knowledge these two had a rocky history. What with Max being his ex, then suddenly turning straight and getting with his sister, then disappearing on her, breaking her heart and coming back with no explanation, then falling for one of his closest friends too. But getting back to the point, it had been a while since Ash or Max had said a friendly word to each other, but both were older now, surely the history could be forgotten or re-written?
”You going to eat all that by yourself?” He asked with a smile. ”That’s a lotta food for one person you know.”

Ash looked up at the sound of a familiar voice. He laughed when Max asked him if he was going to eat all the food in front of him, as it was alot for one person. Which Ash had to admit, was probably true.
"Well, I do have a pretty big appetite you know." he replied, teasing the blonde Gryffindor. "But you're more than welcome to share it with me."
It was true, Ash did have a huge appetite. Honestly, how he kept from being a total fattie was a mystery to him. Then again, he had always been thin. Sometimes his friends thought he was a bit too skinny.
"So, what've you been up to?" he asked the blonde boy, as he gestured for him to sit down.

”Yeah I know you do.” Max laughed, rubbing the back of his head. ”I never see you when you’re not eating, you know it’s a wonder you’re not fat.” He stuck his tongue out to show he was only joking with Asthon. Max just didn’t know how to be round him, yet somehow it was easier than he thought it’d be.
Max smiled at Ash as he sat down and shrugged, grabbed some of the chicken and began to chew slowly. ”Sure, alright then.” Max didn’t have an appetite like Ash did, Max ate smaller meals, but more often than the raven haired male. Still, even he could still find himself hungry on occasion and tonight was no exception.
As he scooped a bit of mash into his mouth, his eyes turned back to Ash and shrugged. What had he been upto? Hah. ”Keeping my nose out of trouble thank god.” He rolled his eyes. It was no secret Max and trouble werent often to far apart but lately he’d kept his head down and avoided every aspect of it. Somehow. Luckily.
”Other than that…” He smiled, ”Well, keeping me out of trouble is a full time job so…”

Ash stuck his own tongue out in reply. "Hey now." he grinned as Max sat down and began to eat. Slowly. "Well good grief, Max. It's gonna take you all night just to finish that one piece of chicken. And it's not even that big!" he teased again.
He was shocked at Max's next words. "You? Staying out of trouble? That's a real shocker. Usually you and trouble are pretty close friends." of course he was just teasing again, but there was some truth to it.
"So, what else have you been up to? How's your life going, right now?"
