The Character
Name: Echo Keir
Year: Sixth
House: Um, whatever really.
Blood: Pure
Wand: Koa, Salamander tail, 7 5/8 inches
Personality: Quiet and brooding, Echo is a bit distant from her fellow classmates. She doesn't deal well with people who think they know everything, and enjoys any opportunity to take the wind out of any hot-heads' sails. She also doesn't take well to people who are willfully ignorant to the world around them, and has her own brand of wisdom that she likes to dish out in such situations. She loosens up a bit with what friends she has, and can be quite a jokester when the mood strikes. She's also quite creative and sneaky which makes it a bit easier for her to help her friends get out of sticky situations (often that she gets them into in the first place). Some people call her bipolar because she's so cheerful and free around her friends, but quite harsh and brittle towards any strangers she doesn't trust, or enemies she's made. She's extremely agile and graceful, and has a pretty keen mind.
Appearance:
History: Echo's parents, Layla Carrick and Alan Keir, met shortly after their basic schooling careers had ended. Alan had been a Gryffindor at Hogwarts, Layla had graduated from Beaxbatons. They both went into a Magical Law Enforcement training program in the MoM. They both graduated with flying colors, and soon went under cover in Scottland together. It was there that the two fell in love and eventually married. After their terms were up Layla turned in her resignation papers and she and Alan started a family. Their first child was a Metamorphmagus named Aria, followed by a Quidditch prodigy they named Thunder.
About this time the Keir's were called back into duty. Layla protested that she had resigned, but the Minister demanded that they needed her skills in the field on this job. Both Alan and Layla were told some story about Nessy acting up, but when they arrived on the scene they were debriefed about a clan of dark wizards who were trying to raise the spirits of a long dead army of Scottsmen and women. The Keirs infiltrated with the greatest care, passing themselves off as travelling gypsies. What they hadn't expected was for the dark wizards to have a class one Valde Seer. She'd seen the Keir's coming for three months. The strange part is the Seer hadn't told a soul. As soon as the Keir's showed up she took them under her wing. Helped them keep their cover, gave them extra food from the spit, anything they needed, the Seer provided.
And then the bomb dropped.
The Seer took Layla aside one day and told her that the next child she had was going to kill her. The baby would be infected with an ancient disease and there was nothing that could be done about it.
Layla and Alan fled back to the Ministry faster than you could say "Nessy had a head cold".
By the next year, Echo was born. Although Layla didn't die, she did become extremely ill and had to be submitted to St. Mungoes. Immedeatly, Echo had every test run on her that possibly could be done, and nothing wrong could be found with her. Even now she goes in twice a year for a physical at the Ministry, though thus far the only thing they've found out of the normal is an extremely high ability to learn and function in extreme situations.
Now Echo goes to school. Her two older siblings have already graduated, and remain more or less unaware of what went on so many years ago. They know that Echo still has annual medical examinations, but they've been told that's because the doctors are worried whatever virus is attacking their mother may have been something she contracted in Scottland and may be lying dormant in Echo. This is the same story told to classmates and Professors and anyone else who gets curious.
Echo simply doesn't care.
