KOHANA
ENGEL
ENGEL
Name: Kohana Engel
Nicknames: Koko
Age: Fifteen
Year: Fifth
House: Gryffindor
Blood: Half-blood
Wand: Carved from apple, the wood of youth, beauty and happiness;
It harbours a core of phoenix feather preserved in its ashen form.
Patronus: Dolphin
Boggart: Despite their benevolent suspended around Hogwarts,
Kohana has a strong aversion to ghosts and apparitions of any kind.
Appearance:
Kohana’s softness lends a lot of naivety to her aesthetics, but she has learned this is not always a bad trait to have. People respond well to the genuineness she exudes, always relied upon to be open, honest and positive. The tranquillity of her eyes and hint of a smile are signs of neutral territory, and so Kohana rarely lands a bad first impression. From a distance she is earthy, fresh and pleasing, though whatever physical charm she may possess is of no use to her.
History:
Despite her magical heritage, Kohana had little inclination of her family's second world. Born to a muggle mother and magical father, Kohana's parents divorced too soon in her life for her to gain a balanced understanding of what she was. Her father left at a time when Kohana should have begun to learn about the wizarding world, and too scorned by his wife to take interest in educating his daughter, he left her in ignorance. Though not opposed to magic, Kohana's mother was overwhelemed by the task of teaching Kohana about a culture she was not part of, and so remained silent on the matter, hoping Kohana's fate would be unable to find her if hidden well enough...
This was so not simple, considering Kohana's father abandoned much of his past with his family. The Engel wizarding family had never been a grand one, but there was an ancestral home passed on to each generation. It was this beautiful home that Kohana was born in, and not a greedy man, Kohana's father left it all to his ex-wife. Much of its magical artefacts, enchanted tea sets and jinxed ornaments, were inconspicious enough that Kohana still has no idea of their potential - but she was a very observant child. Photos of mysterious ancestors would watch her. Something living but not human would pace thoughtfully in the attic. But it was the house's oldest resident that haunted Kohana the most; quite literally.
Kohana avoided this icy, stoic spectre for most of her childhood, pretending not to see it when she so obviously did. It was not until years later, wandering into the world of Hogwarts and everything her father had not prepared her for, that Kohana realised ghosts were no figment of the imagination. An adaptable child, Kohana embraced her new identity with ease - but she has never been able to let go of her fear of the dead. They are the strongest vice of her bravery, and something she must live with daily at Hogwarts.
