{ Note: Nobody at the school except a few people have figured out/know shes mute. They just think she keeps to herself alot, and doesn't like to talk or be seen. }
Personality: Katya is bright, and intelligent. She is deathly quiet, at least her voice is. Being mute, she tends to rely on actions and gestures to get her point across. Shes actually pretty funny, if you understood what she was doing with her hands or her facial expressions. There is a possibility the damage to her voicebox isn't permanent, but its been there since she was five, so she doubts anything will change. But Katya has come to accept it now, getting frustrated at times when people dont understand her or cant read the words she mouths on her lips. Like a typical teenager, she can find things wrong with her look, but it doesn't bother her. She also enjoys goofing off, but knows when to tone it down. Like her disability, Katya has come to terms with her appearance. She loves to smile and laugh, even though all anyone else can see is some girl throwing her head back, opening her mouth, and bobbing her shoulders.
Appearance: Fair skinned, Katya is beautiful. She has wavy blonde hair that drapes over her shoulders, staight teeth, and ice blue eyes that seem to bore into you with an eerie, yet pleasant, intensity. To sum it up, her appearance at times is 'striking', as if she is snow personified, but without the cold personality.
History: Little is known about the mysterious Katya, for there is nothing she could say. Born into a very superstitious family, she was considered a blessing amongst her people: beautiful, healthy, blonde, and fair-skinned. Nothing could've meant more to her mother and father. When she was ten years old, living in a shaded area of Russia hidden away from the world, she suffered an accident. Playing by the river, she accidentally fell in, tossed mirthlessly about like a rag doll within the livid torrents. Soon after she was pulled out of the water by her father, half dead, and resuscitated on the banks. They asked her if she was alright, but she refused to answer. That is what they thought, though in truth, Katya physically couldn't respond. Something happened below the surface to injure her voicebox, or at least that is what everyone assumed. From then on the beautiful little Russian girl never sang again, never whispered, never heard her laughter aloud, never spoke. But she still sang, though no one could hear her. She had the same emotions, though there was an underlying sadness in her ice blue eyes. They believed the color of her eyes was because of so much water she consumed while in the river. Whether this was the truth or not, she never wondered..
Katya has grown to be a kind teenager, and very intelligent, to the delight of her parents. They were very accepting when she received her letter from Hogwarts, a little wary at first but still loving and kind towards their only daughter. She has their full support, and misses them, as they couldn't come with their daughter to find a new home near the school. Katya had to leave them in Russia. The first mute child to be enrolled in the school (to her knowledge) it would certainly be difficult for her to master spells without speaking them aloud. Katya relies on her mind and her hands to complete magic, and it makes her that much faster when performing it. Unable to speak, it is difficult sometimes for her to make friends. She doesn't use sign language, finding it easier to mouth the words of what shes saying or simply write it down. Most often Katya uses actions, and in fact, she has a great sense of humor, able to make side-splitting funny faces or imitate people. If only someone got to know her, troublesome as that may sound, they would surely love her bright personality.[/font]
