No one talks to him about how he lives,
He thinks that the choices he makes are just his,
Doesn’t know he’s a leader with the way he behaves,
And others will follow the choices he’s made,
He lives on the edge, he’s old enough to decide,
His sister who wants to be him is just nine,
He can do what he wants because it’s his right,
The choices he makes change a nine-year-olds life...

Hattie speaks her mind, whether people want to hear it or not, she rarely lies, unless she feels it is genuinely better for the person she is lying to, she is very opinionated and stubborn, she will not usually change her opinion for someone else. She hates prejudices and tries hard not to judge people until she knows them. She prefers listening to peoples problems rather than talking about her own, and if she has a problem, tends to pretend it doesn't exist and hide it deep inside her. If she knows someone is sad, she'll try her hardest to make them feel better, whether by listening, or cracking jokes, or just by sitting with them in silence. Hattie is usually quite a happy, optimistic person, but can get spells of anxiety and depression, during her happy spells she loves to be the center of attention, to be looked at and noticed, so she tries very hard to be 'unique', although her version of 'unique' would typically fall into several cliches, mostly she is outgoing and bold. Hattie loves to laugh, even if the joke she's been told isn't funny, she might laugh for the sake of laughing.
Her depression is very sudden and spontaneous, with no apparent link between each session and the next. Anything could bring it on, from the death of a loved one, to someone taking her pencil. When in these states, she is hard to rouse, un-responsive and un-motivated. She has been prescribed medication by a muggle doctor, which works for the most part. She adores her older brother, who, although a squib, is still her role model , she would do anything to be like him, and constantly seeks his pride and approval. He is the only person she would do anything for, no matter the cost.
Appearance:
Height: 5'1
Size: She's naturally very thin, almost skeletal, but hides this fact with lots of layers and baggy clothes.
Eyes: Vivid green.
Hair: Her hair is blonde, and naturally curly, she prefers to straighten it, but her hair resists this un-natural treatment, and flicks up at the ends.
Other: She has braces, with red bands, and when she smiles, she gets dimples. She has very pale skin, almost ill looking, but dislikes it immensely and often tries to change it by either using small amounts of fake tan or tanning herself naturally. Her nails are bitten down to the quick, but she still endeavors with painting them. She adores dark muggle clothes, and her fashion sense is often described as 'non existant' or 'wierd.'
History:
Hattie was born and raised in Ireland, to Charlie Thorne and Amelia Macken, both possessing magical abilities. She has brother, five years her elder, named Matthew Thorne, who was born a squib. Hattie flourished with magical prowess from an early age, constantly altering objects around the house, much to her older brothers frustration. She lived an uneventful childhood, perpetually trying to live in her elder brothers shadow, and failing due to her being the only child with magical abilities in her family. Hattie adored her brother, and followed him everywhere she could, copying him in anyway she could, if she could have been given the chance to be him, she would have taken it. She respected and looked up to her brother more than she did her parents.
Matthew constantly slated and put down Hattie about her magical abilities, jealous of her, and that led Hattie to grow up believing that she was in the wrong to be magical. She tried as hard as possible to not use her magic, however, instead of gaining Matthews approval, like she had aimed, it only made him more bitter and resentful of her, believing that she was 'wasting it' to not use her magic. Hattie became very confused as to what Matthew wanted from her, eventually she refused to use magic altogether, and began claiming she was a squib.
When she was ten and Matthew fifteen, her parents had another son, whom they named Callum, also magical.
When Hattie received her Hogwarts acceptance letter, aged eleven, she vehemently rebuked any attempts of her parents to get her to traverse to Diagon Alley with them, and insisted that she would not be attending Hogwarts. She refused to try on her robes, refused to wave the wands Ollivander handed her and refused to look at the books her parents bought her, she remained this way until a week before the Hogwarts term started, when Matthew, in a strange act of conscience, took her to one side and explained to her how he felt about the world.
Only Hattie and Matthew know the words they exchanged on that day, but the result was that Hattie agreed to attend Hogwarts, and to run to Diagon Alley and get a wand, and Matthew became more accepting of his existence, and even started to help Hattie in her magical studies, and revel in Callums mischievous magical activities.
Today, Hattie is fourteen and is in her fourth year at Hogwarts, when she goes home during the holidays, Matthew , now nineteen and still living with his parents, helps her with homework, having borrowed Hattie's books and bought his own, and expanded his knowledge of magic, although still unable to perform the actual act of magic. Callum is now four, and showing great magical potential, which Matthew nurtures. Matthew is now very much a part of the family, despite being a squib, he still attends magical events, such as the Quidditch world cup, and he enjoys watching Hattie and Callum practice magic.
Hattie and Matthew have become as close as possible, almost like best friends, she has finally gained the acceptance and pride she wanted from him.
