The early Saturday morning found Ashton Laurent sitting by the lake once more. He'd slipped out of the room he shared with his boyfriend Tyler and made his way down here to think about things. He was feeling so confused these days. He loved Tyler, and he thought Tyler loved him too, but he wasn't so sure these days. He knew that as the school healer, Tyler would be pretty busy. But still, it felt like they didn't spend anytime together anymore.
Honestly, Ash couldn't even remember the last time they'd hugged each other, or even said "I love you" Where did they stand? Was it over between them? He didn't want it to be, but maybe there was nothing he could do about it.
Ash sighed and stared out at the lake. Five years later, and this was still where he came when he was confused about things. The lake had become like his haven. Every time he'd needed to think about things, or just needed to get away, he'd come to the lake.
"What's going on between us?" he whispered sadly, not realizing that the person he was so confused about was right behind him...

Saturday’s tended to be one of the only days that Tyler got to lie in since the majority of students where still in bed then also. However it seemed today that Ashton had another idea about that and before the sun was barely new in the sky the dark head boy had gotten out of bed and left the room. Rolling over in his bed Tyler looked at the door and gave a nasal sigh as he knew just where Ash was going. He was not an idiot, he knew that over the past few days Ashton had been getting all depressed about things but due to time restraints they had not had a chance to talk about things. However the healer knew that this morning that was going to have to change, if he was going to get a smile on his boyfriends face again they would have to talk it out and Tyler would have to find out what was bothering him.
Slowly making his way across the castle grounds Tyler saw the single finger sitting by the lake looking out at its rippling waters. It was when he was only a couple of feet away from Ashton that he heard the guy speak. The tone of voice was heart breaking, but it also seemed to strike a cord in him and he could feel the defences go up. He folded his arms and raised his eyebrows as he stared at the back of Ashton’s head.
“What do you think is happening between us? I personally think everything is fine!”

Ash jumped in surprise at the sound of Tyler's voice. He turned to face his boyfriend, feeling his face flush with embarrassment at having been caught.
He sighed at the defensive tone in Tyler's voice. "Tyler, I'm serious. What's happening between us? I know you say things are fine, but...are they really? I mean, when's the last time either of us said 'I love you'? and not just out of habit either."
He looked down, playing with the grass, twisting the blades between his fingers, "I don't want to lose you Tyler, but I'm just so confused right now. I just wish we had more time together." he looked up at his boyfriend, the sadness and confusion written all over his face. He did manage a small smile though. "I do love you, you know. I don't want us to be over, and I hope you feel the same way. I want to work this out."

Tyler always knew this moment was going to come really with Ashton; it had happened in other relationships that Tyler had been in. He had just hoped maybe he could have broken out of this routine long enough to make sure that his relationship with Ashton could last longer then any others, however it seemed that once again his lack of showing emotion had let him down. Maybe it was because him and Ashton where two very different people. Ashton showed his emotions clearly, he talked about it freely, he showed it with his actions but Tyler…well he was more of the closed book. He felt those feelings inside so why should he have to publicly announce it everyday?
“I don’t think anything wrong is happening between us.” He stressed as he looked over at his boyfriend, a small frown slowly tugging at his brow. “I just don’t feel the need to tell you that I love you every single day as you know that I do and saying it too many times will just make it lose the meaning.”
Everything that he was saying was true to his feelings and although it may sound harsh he knew that he needed to be honest with Ash. He did not know what the other boy wanted and Tyler could not help but get annoyed at this small fact. He could feel it niggling at him like an annoying tickle in the back of a throat and Tyler was willing to do anything to stop the tickle from going away but it seemed that Ash had not finished yet and that little tickle got stronger.
“What!” Tyler finally exploded, his face in utter confusion not even the puppy dog look in Ashton’s eyes were able to cool him down. “How insecure are you? We are not going to break up, we both love each other so on that grounds it would be stupid to break up don’t you?” With a long exhale Tyler tried to calm himself down before asking the next question. “What is it that you want from me? Sadly I can’t change the hours that I have to work, neither can you. We just have to make the most of the time we have together and you flouncing out in the early hours of the morning to have a sulk by the lake is not making the most of that time together.”

Ash winced slightly at Tyler's reaction. That had obviously been the wrong thing to say. He knew that of course Tyler would never hurt him, but with a past like his, who could blame him for being a little jumpy when people got loud?
"Well, it's not like you have to say it all day, every day. Hell, even I'd get sick of that!" Ash quipped, trying to lighten the mood. He sighed again. "I dunno... I guess I'm still not used to having to share you. I have to admit I'm a bit jealous!" he gave a small laugh.
The young man shrugged when Tyler brought up the subject of their work hours. He was right. Neither of them could change that. They'd just have to make-do with the time they did have together. "You're right. I'm sorry. There's nothing we can do about our work hours. We'll just have to make the most of the time that we do have together."

After his rant Tyler could not help but feel a little bit guilty, especially when Ashton winced, he knew all about his boyfriends past and he hated to think that the way he was acting was bringing back memories of the boys past. The only problem was that Tyler was so frustrated right now that little voice in his head told him not to care, that it was time to look after himself rather then trying to please everyone…problem was that was just his nature.
“You just said…urrgh!” Tyler lost the will to fight and sat down on the grass in front of the lake and put his head in his hands trying to calm himself down. “Jealousy is not an attractive feature Ash.” He muttered into his hands, Tyler knew that from experience with his ex-boyfriend. It had not been pretty, Ian was clingy and possessive and accused Tyler of having an affair with his patients to their 60 year old neighbour!
Here he was moaning and arguing with the person he loved and even though Ashton had just apologised it did not quell the fire of frustration that was bubbling inside of him. Lifting his head from his hands Tyler looked out over the water, the reflection of the early December sun gleaming off the rippling mirror. Now he was the one sulking by the lake!
“I just…” With a deep sigh Tyler pushed himself up off the ground and took a few steps backwards before breaking out into a run and leaping right into the waters of the lake. The cold water hit him like a brick and he could feel his skin turning a bight pink but he didn’t care, it felt so…so…so invigorating!

Ash's nose scrunched up in confusion. "Wait..what? I'm confused!" he cried, before flopping back onto the grass with an annoyed huff. Honestly, why did Tyler have to be so...so....so confusing!?
He raised an eyebrow as Tyler suddenly decided to go for a dip in the lake. What the devil was wrong with that man, Ash would never know. He just rolled his eyes at his boyfriend's antics.
"If you think I'm going to get into that lake, then you've lost your mind. Think you lost it anyway. It's December, you idiot. December!" of course this was said with affection and so took away the sting of the words.

He could hear Ashton moaning from the edge of the lake, mumbling about it being December and that the water was too cold for swimming. Admittedly it was rather cold but he would never admit that to Ash right now, lord only knows what his crowing would be like.
“Chicken!” Tyler shouted over to him as he slowly began to swim over back to the shoreline. Standing up Tyler slowly wondered over towards Ash running his hand through his sopping wet hair and wringing out his woollen jumper.
“You need to live a little Ash.” Tyler joked as he sat down on the grass next to his boyfriend. “First you say we don’t spend enough time with each other and now when we get the chance your being all…all…”He didn’t know how to finish that sentence without getting Ash all wiled up and angry…he really was in an odd mood today.

Ash just rolled his eyes and laughed at the chicken comment. "I'm not chicken. I'm smart. Unlike someone I know." he said with a smirk.
"Don't know about you, but I don't fancy getting pneumonia." he said with a shrug as his bf sat next to him.
Tyler's next words put him on edge a little. "All what?" he asked, with a bit of suspicion.

The comments about getting pneumonia made Tyler chuckle and reaching into this trouser pocket the Hospital Wing Nurse pulled out his wand and waved it over his body and slowly his water sodden jumper slowly started to dry. Once it was complete Tyler looked over at Ashton with a raised eyebrow. “Ta-da!”
However it was then why Ashton started to get tetchy about Tyler leaving the sentence hanging and the older man could not help but roll his eyes. “Oh come on don’t be so pedantic. I don’t finish in an attempt not to hurt you but then you still have a go at me.” He spun around to look his boyfriend in the eyes. “I can’t win with you!”
Running his hand through his hair Tyler felt so exasperated he didn’t care anymore, he didn’t care about skirting around Ash’s temperamental feelings anymore. “I was just going to say how you were just being so boring and well…stupid.”
