Marianne sat silently in her office. Since the reforms had begun she had been spending less and less time in court. It had been weeks now since she had been present at a trial. Most cases didn't recieve a trial at the moment. Nearly all verdicts and sentences were decided by Illyana Deitrich herself.
There were a few cases that still came to Marianne's desk though. Petty crimes: robbery, theft, tresspassing... the kind of thing where no one gets hurt.
Marianne's eye was drawn to a file on her desk. It was marked with a Department of Magical Law Enforcement stamp and with one for the Ministry of Enlightenment. This puzzled Marianne; the two departments shouldn't really overlap, there should be no common ground. Marianne was puzzled further when she saw the 'Eyes Only' stamp with the moving inspecting eyes that declared that this file to be confidential.
Marianne drew the file close to her and opened it. It was a simple tresspassing charge. Some poor ethusiastic fool decieded it was a good idea to walk into the house of a Ministry Offical and try and congratulate her. Unfortunatly the Official wasn't present only her daughter Alvira.
Alvira... that's an interesting name. Marianne thought. It's not English... it could almost be Russian...
Then it dawned on her. Russian!
Marianne hunted frantically through the file to try and discover any information she could about the name of the Ministry Offical. There was none. Not a shred. What Marianne did find was a witness statement from the daughter. It was signed
Alvira Deitrich
"Illyana has a daughter!" Marianne gasped.
The League must know. She thought.
It was at that moment Marianne's personal assistant burst into the room.
"There's been a death at Hogwarts! A boy called Thom Meon... There was a clash between the some Ministry Officals and a group of dissidents. The Minister for Enlightenment is on her way to Hogwarts as we speak!"
That is it... Marianne thought. I've got to meet with the league.
"Fetch my coat." She asked. Knowing that what she was doing was the last step on a path to treason. A path she now knew she was willing to take.[/color]
