Ethan = Means "solid, enduring" in Hebrew. This was the name of a wise man in the Old Testament. After the Protestant Reformation it was occasionally used as a given name in the English-speaking world, and it became somewhat common in America due to the fame of the revolutionary Ethan Allen (1738-1789). It only became popular towards the end of the 20th century. This was the name of the main character in Edith Wharton's novel 'Ethan Frome' (1911).
Jerome = From the Greek name (Hieronymos) meaning "sacred name". Saint Jerome was responsible for the creation of the Vulgate, the Latin translation of the Bible, in the 5th century. He is regarded as a Doctor of the Church. The name was used in his honour in the Middle Ages, especially in Italy and France, and has been used in England since the 12th century.

Although it is obvious that his patronus is a horse and he can hold it for a long time, although this is only because of his over-protective nature and he doesn’t over-achieve in much else in school.

When Ethan looks into the Mirror of Erised, he sees himself surrounded with everything he’s ever wanted. Upon his chest is a shiny silver badge claiming he is the Minister of Magic and his beautiful wife holds a newborn as two other children play by his feet. He can feel a sense of pride within himself for having such a beautiful family and an amazing career, not to mention the feeling of pure happiness. He feels extremely lucky to have such a perfect life.
[Boggart]: Inferi.
Ever since he was told by his father about Inferi, Ethan has feared them. His father told him the story of how he had to flee from a dark wizard to lead him away from his family and how the dark wizard reared up the dead back to ‘life’. The mental images scarred Ethan for life and this has caused Inferi to be his main fear.

~Appearance~

[Style] – Ethan is not one to follow a fashion trend, simply opting for the more casual jeans and t-shirt approach. Although for special occasions he likes to put effort in and dress up.

~Personality~

During his time at school, Ethan has tried hard at all subjects, some more so than others. He however is nowhere near the cleverest person to attend the school and although his driven nature to succeed in his studies is there, he is easily knocked back and takes bad marks well, badly. Depending on how he feels at the time and what the subject is, he will continue to try and understand it to better himself, or he will just give up. His favourite class is Defence Against The Dark Arts, whereas his least favourite is Transfiguration.

When facing situations with others, instead of taking sides or sitting on the fence, Ethan prefers to try and calm down both parties and encourage them to work their problems out in a civilised manner on neutral ground. He prefers not to ignore situations like that nor does he like to be involved, but he can’t let himself physically just sit there and ignore it. He has good calming skills and thinks he is very fair on people. He tries to see everyone as equals although that is sometimes not possible as people can make it hard for him. In very odd occasions he will side with someone if the other party give him hassle.

Ethan is not one to dive into a relationship unless he is sure of the other person’s intentions first hand. He knows relationships can be complex, and so he wants the real thing and for it to be right instead of just a filler relationship. He however can be fooled pretty easily into thinking the opposite of what the other person really wants due to his over-trusting nature. He likes girls who aren’t as straight forward as they seem, and have hidden depths to them. He prefers getting to know someone a lot before going out with them.

With friends, Ethan happily embraces old and new. He will never leave his old, most trusting friends for someone who may be new or more exciting. He trusts people too much first hand however, but if his freewill trust is broken, it will take a lot to gain it back. His downfall with his friends is that he does not show outward bravery. He will, like in social situations, try and make things fair for everyone, which may seem like he is not sticking up for his friends but this is not the case. He just does not want them to get hurt and therefore trying to protect them this way is how he deals with things.

Many factors of Ethan’s personality point to him being protective over people. He is very good at protection spells and using his patronus, however excelling in protection he is not as skilled in other areas of magic. He will be willing to protect anyone from any dark magic and he is a good one to have there to protect others.

Like everybody else, Ethan is subject to some habits. His main, most obvious one is fingering his hair which he does constantly and more so when he’s nervous. He also bites the inside of his cheeks in awkward situations.

~In The Past~

Jacob Howard the wizard and Dana Kaynel the muggle were both students at Hogwarts, both in the same year at school, but while Jacob was sorted into Gryffindor, Dana was a proud Ravenclaw. The two started dating in their sixth year at Hogwarts and although they broke up just before graduation, the separation wasn’t permanent, and they soon got back together within a couple of weeks. High on passing school, Dana with better flying colours than Jacob, the pair continued to support each other once they left school and although they lived miles apart, Jacob living in London and Dana living in Wales, the pair took separate weekends to go and visit each other at their homes. Being apart for most of their time really was a case of ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ and after two years of travelling, Jacob had saved enough to buy a house in London in a small wizarding village. It was on one weekend Dana was visiting where he asked her to move in with him, and marry him. Dana was scared of such big things happening all at once, but she loved him and knew they could not continue seeing each other just on weekends. She said yes to both and just a few weeks later, they had moved into their first home together, the one where they still live now.

It was around the time of the move than Dana fell pregnant and she didn’t start showing until she was five months gone. It was a huge shock but a great surprise for them and they began preparations for the new arrival. Baby Ethan was born on his father’s birthday just a few months later.
At birth – From birth, Ethan had been a quiet baby, never crying unless he needed too. His life, although both parents were young, was full of love, and Dana and Jacob were mature for their age. Jacob still held his job in London but Dana had given hers up when she moved and falling pregnant, there was no point in returning to work just yet. Ethan was given all he would need and the pair did well to raise themselves and a child on just Jacob’s wage alone. The pair frequently got help from wizarding neighbours who often made clothes and food for the pair, swooning over the only baby in the street. This also gave Dana and Jacob plenty of options to continue being a couple also instead of just parents, and they had free babysitting. Dana and Jacob were very grateful to have Mrs Merriweather next door as she did a lot for them, she became like a mother to them and a grandmother to Ethan.

During his younger years, Mrs Merriweather used to look after him a lot so Dana could find a job to help pay the bills. Mrs Merriweather was an old lady and she didn’t work or have any family left of her own, so she was pleased of the company. Dana returned to work and began to work in a muggle museum while Jacob continued his job at the Ministry of Magic. Ethan was a playful lad, like many other children, although he preferred the company of older people compared to younger. He was quite mature for his age, and being around Mrs Merriweather for years he wasn’t as childish as he should be.
A week or two before his eleventh birthday, Ethan received a letter. His mother and father had been telling him to possibly expect one but they did not say why. He had been brought up with magic but his parents decided to keep the school a surprise in case he wasn’t accepted. He opened it and there was his acceptance letter to Hogwarts and a list of items he needed for his first year. Mrs Merriweather was there and she was beaming with delight that he had made the finest magic school in the country. Everything went a bit fast paced from then on and within hours, his mother, father, and Merriweather were off to Diagon Alley to collect his supplies.
Starting school just a few weeks later, he was being seen off by the trio at platform nine and three quarters and jumping on the train with his suitcase of stuff. Ethan was nervous as he hadn’t expected things to move so quickly, but the nervousness soon passed and as he entered the great hall, he was in awe. It was within minutes that he was being called up to be sorted, and the Sorting Hat shouted ‘Hufflepuff’ after a few moments of humming and awing. Ethan did not really understand why they were put into houses based on personality, but he didn’t question it, he just got on with things.
