The Character

Nicholas McNiven, 38
Muggle born

Personality: Nicholas is secretive as will only open up fully to those who first gains his trust. His life experience aids him in his work and knowing who to befriend or not. His job means he can not form deep attachments to anyone as he has to be prepared to leave a place faster then he arrived. Nicholas prides himself on his organization skills, and the fact that he never leaves a mess, although when desperate times call for desperate measures all plans will fly out of the window. McNiven is not afraid to kill someone he has done it many times before and he would do it again! With such a cold hearted approach to life jokes are not on his cards and if he laughs….then something has gone the way he wants it to!

Appearance: His brown hair is slowly turning grey and so is his stubble, he has a square jaw and over the years has got use to the jokes about it. He is a well built man and takes good care of his health and fitness. “You never know when you will need to run for your life.”

History: Nicholas is muggle born from Scotland, however after leaving Hogwarts some 17 years ago he has lost the majority of his accent, as it only comes out when he is stressed or excited. Once upon a time if you try to find a file on Nicholas at the ministry you will find it only holding one piece of paper. ‘Missing’. This was after him and his partner in crime Jake Gobien has a little run in with the law and all though Jake got caught and served his time in Azkaban, McNiven ran and did not look back!
That was until he heard rumours about a group called The Red Rose League, who was taking action against the corrupt ministry. Before he knew it McNiven was in charge of a small group of freedom fighters who all wanted the corrupt ministry to fall. But it seemed that McNiven’s past and own motives keep getting in the way of everyone else’s ideas.

But his past is starting to catch up with him. If you were to look in his ministry folder now it will be getting rather full with lists of past accusations and crimes he has not be punished for and also the bounty that is resting nicely on his head. So although a few wanted posters are popping up here and there after he murdered the ministry official Thom Moan McNiven will still wonder here and there and in the process he bumped into his old partner in crime Jake Gobien while he was on one of his own private missions. United to two set on taking out one of the ministry houses in Hogsmeade, and the plan seemed to be going well at first until the house was set on fire and Quinn Locksley turned up. Yet again the past came to hunt a man who loved running from it and this will be his toughest battle yet...............

These are the people McNiven works with and although at first many looked at him for guidance it seems their confidence in him has been shaken. But he still stands by the fact that he did what was needed and in the end it will help their cause.

Enemy

McNiven has many of these. He has hurt many people by his willingness to use the killing curse and so has been the cause of many gaps in the dinner table. But his biggest enemy will be the ministry. So if you work for the corrupt sods…then you belong here! [/right]
Blast from the past
McNiven has really had two lives. His life growing up and then the life on the run, and he never wanted the two to mix. But now situations have started to happen when they are coming together.
Old companions and members of his family have started to appear and although some are welcome, others are not and this could be a very bad thing.

Known by reputation only
His name is spreading, which maybe good for his ego but it is not good when you are trying to lie low. His face is on wanted posters around the country and if you look in the newspapers he even has small articles about him and the hunt for him.

[Jake Gobien]

Blast from the past
Old friends Gobien and McNiven, or Jake and Nicky as they call each other, have known each for many years. They go as far back as school days when the two immediately hit it off. Gobien is the elder by only a single year and it really doesn't show between them. Their relationship throughout their school days was a whirlwind, sometimes they'd be as thick as theives then seemingly despising each other; mainly because of one single thing; Gobien's flirtation with any who crossed his path even then. Now he may have calmed down a little, more to the point he doesn't see enough people to have flings with, but then he was a right dark horse, and McNiven being actually rather gentlemanly chivalrous, at least where duels are concerned, meant the two sometimes came to blows, as friends do.

On finishing school they continued their education at the Ministry soon flying up the ladder due to their crafty abilities. They worked in close quarters there were Gobien fruitlessly tried to seduce McNiven, it failed and so Gobien has finally given up on hs oldest friend; for romantic love at least.

Neither really knows who experienced the corrupt nature of the ministry's fall first, but it's clear Gobien took a real blow when he was imprisoned. Immediately becoming a Rogue Wizard on his release Gobien kept his eyes and ears peeled for any signs of his old companion. He heard rumours that he'd formed the fabled Red Rose League, and Gobien had smirked at such a thought, it sounded exactly like what McNiven would do.

So they heard only whispers of each others whereabouts, both pretty reluctant to see each other again, they loved the old days and really wished to hold onto them, their differing allegiances could tear them apart, and Gobien couldn't deal with that.

Coming across each other all of a sudden in Hogsmeade it was like the years just slid away. Like nothing had changed, they had no chance to talk properly but Gobien knew things were just like the good old days, except for one exceptional difference; the kiss he received, now it may just have been the spur of the moment, but Jake being Jake was taking it entirely how he wished it; an old flame rekindled...


RP Ideas
Well firstly saving McNiven sounds like a plan, then he can in turn save Gobien as he's found himself in a spot of bother too.
Seeing where the romance side could go would be a right laugh!

Enemies/Known by reputation
Gabriella, being a Rogue, is naturally the enemy of any Rose believing the lot of them to be a bunch of self-righteous fools; McNiven is no exception. She has no love, likeness, feeling towards the Red Rose leader. She does however, respect him mainly for being an old friend of Gobien's.
