Personality: Orwin has a strong belief of anything magical. Intrigued by most of the wizarding world, he is especially interested in lunatics and those who are cast aside or ignored by society. Often, it is within a person's hysterics that Orwin finds the answers he is looking for.

Pinned as strange and severe, Orwin, since his younger years, has grown accustomed to being alone. Besides his test subjects and the occasional chat with one of his students, he lags socially yet somehow persists to have a few students who idolize him - much to his curiosity and confusion.

Appearance: Almost everyone who remarks on Orwin Ames' appearance comes to the conclusion he is frazzled. Though he wears smart clothes and gives off the illusion that he is well-kempt at first, by the end of the first hour of his day, Orwin shares the outward traits of a drunkard in the Hog's Head.

History: In his adolescent years, Orwin was an awkward boy who many others enjoyed talking to just to hear the oddities that he would say. This quality, however, soon became more of a hindrance after graduation when the young man was looking for his first job. Most parents, and the majority of the faculty, did not completely trust their children with a man who spent most lunches with the hysterical woman who took residence just outside of The Leaky Cauldron, and for many years Orwin was unemployed.

Surprisingly enough, Ames had studied to be a Charms professor and Runes did not come until later. It was one of those times where lunacy provided answers, and after visiting a disfigured muggle psychic, Orwin discovered a pattern of ancient symbols in one of her books. His interest was captivated at once, more so after witnessing that as soon as she recited a paragraph from one of the dusty pages, she would fall into a trance like state.

He eventually became flawless at interpretation of Ancient Runes, and combined with one of his better qualities - the ability to see things at various obscure angles - was finally accepted to teach at Hogwarts academy.

That is not to say, however, that anyone actually believed he was sane.
