"And now I’m itching for the tall grass
And longing for the breeze
I need to step outside
Just to see if I can breathe
I gotta find a way out
Maybe there’s way out "

“Only a kind heart like Mari could love this ill-tempered feline. She seems to only accept few people—Mari is on the top of this list because she rescued the cat from a shelter—and to everyone else she’s down right snooty. Most people think this cat is evil, and she’s earned the nickname Maleficent. Though Mari named the cat after the legend of the moon goddess, Nyx.”
Play-by. Zooey Deschanel
Eyes. striking blue eyes that squint up when she smiles. Her eyes are probably her most distinguishing feature.
Hair. Dark Brunette which sometimes appears to be black. Mari’s hair falls to just past her shoulders and is naturally wavy. She enjoys putting headbands and clips in her hair to spice up her style.
Height. 5’4”
Body. Amari appears to be quite fragile and petite, which compliments her personality perfectly. She has some curves, but isn’t as voluptuous as other girls her age.
Style. Mari dresses based on her mood. If she’s having a good day, she’ll usually be found wearing bright colors with many accessories, but if her mood is sour she usually sticks to blacks and whites with her hair pulled back and a grim expression. She also likes to add a bit of flair to the school uniform, be it headbands or over the top earrings.
Optimistic. Amari likes to look on the bright side of things, because she believes a person shouldn’t spend their life worrying about what’s to come. In the same sense, she tries to look for the best in people. Mari is a strangely trusting person, and understands that she can be hurt because of this. She likes to give everyone a chance, even if it is at her own expense. Amari’s seen first hand how distrust can destroy a life, and it’s something that she never wants to experience again.
Intuitive.. Mari is the type of person who likes to follow her instincts and ‘gut feelings’ instead of reading too far into a situation. She usually judges a situation based on emotions, because she’s rather talented at being in tune with other people’s emotions. She doesn’t believe in people as statistics, but rather thinks that everyone has their own thoughts and ideas and won’t always follow the status quo.
Expressive. Emotions are always clear on Amari’s face and in her actions and someone who doesn’t even know her could pick up on it. She’s very much like a child this way, always easy to read and with ever changing emotions. Mari leaps at the chance to talk to people and loves to meet new people. Her expressive ways of telling stories have the tendency to draw people in and make them feel as if they were actually there.
Peace-maker. A very prominent trait of Mari’s is that she hates fighting. She believes that nothing good can come of it, and fails to understand how anyone can believe that war can lead to peace. Amari will always be the first person to break up a fight and will walk away from a potential fight if she sees one coming. But, no one is infallible and she does have some slip-ups. The fact that she is so tapped into her emotions means that she has some moments when she’ll have outbursts, but she’ll never lay a finger on another person.
Sweetheart. Overall, Mari is a very sweet-natured and caring person. She’ll do practically anything for anyone—as long as it’s still legal and not something ridiculous like jumping off a bridge—and is the person to call on when someone needs a favor. Amari believes in Karma, what goes around comes around, and tries to do her best to keep up good Karma.
Amari’s parents hadn’t met at school, actually both hardly knew the other existed. But, it just so happened that they both chose the same career path. Both decided to work for the ministry under the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. As it were, the couple ran into one another quite a lot, and soon Maxwell’s charming ways bought him a date with the untouchable Rosetta.
Rosetta Steele was a Slytherin Alumni, whose looks were revered around the school. For not being a veela, she was pretty damn good looking. And the girl was a pureblood to boot. Maxwell was a Ravenclaw alumni, whose charming nature made his mediocre face seem more ravishing than it really was. As a couple, they were the envy of the office and it was obvious that they were both madly in love. So, it didn’t come as a surprise to anyone when Maxwell proposed, and Rosetta accepted.
They both made a decent amount of money, and Rosetta’s family was very wealthy to begin with, so the Zeller’s lived comfortably in a large home with many perks. Soon enough, Rosetta was pregnant and the family couldn’t be happier. They were perfect for each other, Maxwell being the doting husband who complimented his wife daily and Rosetta was the perfect partner. She was cunning and unforgiving, helping the family to rise in wealth and power.
Rosetta gave birth to a healthy baby girl, who was named after her great grandmother. Amari was the pride and joy of the family, and Rosetta often bragged about her daughter’s charm. That dimpled smile could win the coldest of hearts. Rosetta became strangely maternal, and loved her daughter with all of her being. Maxwell loved his little girl as well, but it seemed he was not as interested when she began to turn the walls green with magic.
The perfect little family was not destined for happiness though it seemed. Rosetta was brought up in a strictly pureblood family, and taught at a young age that blood purity was the most important thing in a person. Considering she had a high opinion of herself, she felt that she only deserved the best and purist blood of all. And so, she was completely unaware that she had married a halfblood. Maxwell’s parents and grandparents were wizards, but somewhere along the line someone married a muggle born.
Rosetta found out by accident, and she flew into a tirade. She blamed him for lying to her, and cursed him for tainting both her and their daughter. The love of her life was a hoax, and so she fled. At night, Rosetta snatched her little girl—age four by this point—and fled to her mother’s house. Amari’s grandmother accepted her daughter without hesitation, and locked her away from her menace husband for good.
Sophia Steele was a regal woman, known for her calculating and demanding nature. She expected nothing less than perfection, and so she was shocked to find her daughter had married a halfblood. Sophia made it her own personal mission to look after Rosetta and her unfortunate daughter. Amari would only be allowed to associate with purebloods, and would be passed off as a pureblood herself. She would be taught to be a proper young lady, who could easily secure herself a comfortable home.
But, as Mari grew, Rosetta was sinking further and further into depression. All sorts of rumors were starting to pop up. Had Rosetta gone mad? Some say she had gone to live in the mountains, acting like a wild woman. Mari never questioned her mother’s sanity, but had rather learned to accept it. Rosetta had reverted to acting like a child. She was easily hurt and was constantly attached to her daughter. Mari was instructed by her grandmother to just humor her mother, because she was already so unstable.
At school, Amari was told to lie about her mother’s condition. She fabricated stories about her mother being away on vacation, or visiting some relatives in Romania. Mari never invited anyone back to her home, but instead always suggested meeting in public places. Her family remained a mystery to all, but rumors surrounded her family. Whispers about her mother’s madness followed her in the halls and Mari avoided questions about her family.
Now in her sixth year, she still hasn’t seen her father and her family has become a thing of the past. Yet, she still refuses to divulge any information on her mother’s condition or the condition of her broken family.
