Name
Name Meaning:
- Polaris has been known by many names in the past--the Lodestar, the Steering Star, the Ship Star, and Stella Maris ("Star of the Sea"). In China it was known as Tou Mu, Chinese goddess of the North Star. Greek navigators of old called Polaris Kynosoura, which means the "Dog's Tail." The name came into our English language as cynosure, which means "something that strongly attract attention by its central position.".
- In Scandinavian mythology the Norse gods made the Universe out of the bits and pieces of the hacked-up bodies of their defeated enemies. To finish the job they hammered an enormous spike, called Veralder Nagli, or "World Spike," into the center of the Universe and made the sky revolve about it. The end of the spike had a jeweled nail-head, which remained forever fixed on the great sky dome as Polaris.

The Tactical Daydreamer:
While in a class, Polaris is usually found doodling on her notes or staring out the window daydreaming. But despite zoning out or the like, she retains every bit of detail that is projected to her.
The Brutally Truthful:
Polaris doesn't have any qualms about telling people what they're wearing is horrible, or even if they're down-right ugly. When it comes to this Ravenclaw, she really should learn when to keep her mouth shut and think about what she's going to say instead of just saying. Despite the bad side of being so truthful, if she likes you or finds you interesting, she won't lie about it. This often is true when it comes down to her emotions, but her most intimate secrets and feelings are never revealed.
The Adventurer:
Secret tunnels in Hogwarts? Paths in the forbidden forest? Trap doors underneath the great hall rugs? Polaris knows everything about them. There hasn't been any corner left undiscovered by this girl. Every opportunity that comes up to explore or anything of the like, Polaris is sure to be the first one there, leading the way. Whether it is a cave in the dark, forbidden forest, or a simple tunnel that revealed itself within the castle walls, this Ravenclaw has been there and left her mark. Nothing is too dangerous or hidden well enough for her.
The Druid:
Polaris is in her most natural habitat when out in the wild and outside of confined areas such as classrooms or the castle in general. As an animagus, it's important for her to be with nature and is connected to it very deeply. She can hear the whisper that the wind has to offer, the ancient tales the trees tell to who ever listens and the voice of the animals which can't talk to normal humans. It's a gift, and one that she values above almost everything else.
The Viking:
Despite being usually serene, laid-back and thoughtful, Polaris has a side that takes over when the opportunity strike. Being pure Norwegian (save for the small percentage of German), this girl is wild and definitely has a warriors spirit and morale. Accompanying her warriors spirit, she can have a fiery personality and quick temper to match. What would a viking be without his temper?
She takes her heritage to heart and often the situations it produces. When any Nordic holiday passes while she is in Hogwarts, she lets everybody know by dressing up in the traditional outfit of Norway. Along with dressing up, she also briefs everyone on the meaning of the holiday and the story behind it, often times in English as well as Norwegian and sings Nordic folk songs.

Polaris has shoulder length golden brown hair that is layered so that she has a fringe that frames her face almost lazily. She isn't anything exceptional when it comes to looks, she's just average, though some may concider her beautiful. Her skin is a smooth, milky white in colour with the occasional freckle mottling her skin due to her heritage. Her left eye is a brilliant emerald green, while her right is a piercing ice blue in colour, this is a medical condition and is called heterochromia. Polaris has a slightly larger build for her age, measuring about 5'8" in height with an average weight of about 150lbs and athletic build. She doesn't work out too much, but her muscles are sculpted just slightly from the work she does back home, such as tending the fields, leading the animals around and carrying tools around the farm as well as pulling the string back on her 40 pound recurve bow. She currently has six silver bengal bracelets on her right arm (That jingled and clanked together in a harmonious tone when she made a move)and about five piercings in each ear ; two in each lobe and three in each upper ear.
Polaris' history isn't very big or long, just average like she herself is. Both of her parents live in Norway, where they own a farm on about 60 acres of land and medium sized house. She is an only child, but has a strong, innate connection to animals, mainly her wolf-dog, Asgard, along with the forests and land around her. Her name was derived from the north star, since her parents saw the sign of leadership in her. Though, at times she often questions this ability. Her mother was an intelligent witch and animagus, taking form of a raven. The mother taught rogue wizards and witches about animagi and how to perform this type of magic. Ever since the age of 5, Polaris' mother had been teaching her the secrets and ways of the Animagus. Polaris had caught on fairly easy, since it ran in her blood and has been studying for years, day after day, to perfect this technique. This is one of the reasons she is more at home in the forests and around animals. Her father was regular wizard, but had struggled in school a bit, which is where Polaris gets her determination. Both of her parents had gone to Hogwarts previous to Polaris. She hadn't gone to Hogwarts for the first few years, instead choosing to study on her own with her mother and father. This had given her some advantages and some disadvantages. She knew and had learned many spells that others didn't know, let alone even heard of and had begun learning about magic at a very young age. The disadvantages were that she wasn't quite socialized properly and often shies away from the bigger crowds.
