Ash sighed as he lay in bed. He’d been dating Alex for about three months now and so far it had been the best three months of his life. Except for one thing… He had yet to tell people about them. He wanted to of course, but he was still worried about what people would think. A Laurent with a Malfoy. It was like Fire and Ice. They just didn’t mix. Or at least in Ash and Alex’s case they weren’t supposed to. But Ash couldn’t help it. He’d fallen so deeply in love that nothing else mattered to him. All he saw, all he thought about, was Alex.
Giving himself a few minutes to organize his thoughts, he went off in search of Jen. He had to tell someone! He wanted someone to reassure him. To tell him that it was okay to fall in love with someone who was supposed to be his enemy. To support him, and be there for him. He knew Jen could do that. He just needed to find her!
Walking down the hall, he turned into the small kitchen. That was the first place he would look. “Jen?” he called looking around. Not receiving an answer, he moved to the still small, but slightly larger living area. “Jen, you in here?” he asked. He waited a moment. Still not hearing anything, he was about to turn and look somewhere else, when he heard Jen’s voice from behind a bookshelf.

After her sister's visit, Jen had realised that she hadn't had a spring clean this year and by the state of the front room she was surprised she let anyone in there! As she stood with feather duster in hand, she simply stared defeated at the huge bookcase on the nearby wall for ages.
Glaring at the books, she scanned the spines of them and seeing which ones she could give to the nearby bookshop, they may even give her a bit of cash to buy some new books and at that thought, Jen grinned before putting her pouting frown back on and pulling the books off the shelves and piling them up on the floor. The books themselves were unused and filthy and Jen tried to remember the last time she had dusted the bookshelf but for the life of her she couldn't. She knew it was at least a year before Russ came along, and that was almost another year on top of that.
All she knew was that it had been a very long time.
Pulling the bookcase away from the wall she began to dust behind it and gasped at the dull wallpaper behind it. The colour had totally mis-matched to the rest of it and Jen 'eww'd' when a spider ran across the floor and out of the way. This was going to be more than a spring clean, and as she was about to come out and go and buy some wallpaper Ash's voice came from nowhere.
She looked at the door with raised eyebrows as if she was asking Ashton what he wanted. Already covered in dust, she looked down at herself and chuckled. "I'm a mess already and i've only just started. I'm going to redecorate the front room it's a mess, do you want to come with me to pick out wallpaper?" she asked absentmindedly as she pushed the bookshelf back in place so it wasn't in the way. Stepping over the books, she walked over to Ashton. "So what's up?"

Ash attempted a small smile, but failed miserably. There was too much on his mind to even pretend to be ok. Well, he was more than okay, but he was also scared as hell!
Ash shrugged as he walked into the room. "Lots of things." he said vaguely trailing his finger along a dusty shelf. He sighed as he flicked the dust off his finger. "I guess I should start with what the real issue is." He paused, biting nervously into a fingernail. How was he going to say this?
He let out a small sigh and took his finger out of his mouth. Better get it over with. "Well, first of all, you know how you asked me a few weeks ago if I'd met anyone yet, and I didn't really answer your question? Well.. I have met someone..."
He paused for a moment, then continued. "We've been dating for about three months..." he looked up at Jen, hoping she wouldn't be mad at him for not telling her.

By the look on his face, something very serious was up and Jen didn't like seeing Ash worried. He was like a nephew to her now and although she was confused as to what was wrong with him she was glad at the same time that he felt he was able to come to her and share everything.
Sitting on the back of the couch, Jen took a moment to breath and just study Ashton's face as he spoke. She nodded at the parts where appropriate and listened intently as he told her his 'secret'. What came out of his mouth was a surprise but not entirely unexpected.
"Okay, so why did you think it was a big issue to tell me? I'm not your mother Ash so you don't need to pussyfoot around me. I'm happy for you, but after Cristian I think maybe you should take things slow, okay?" she reassured him. Frowning, wondering why he was so scared to her this, she thought he may have something more to tell her.
"Wait... why are you so scared to tell me?" she asked. Worried thoughts ran through her head of his secret lover being Russ and she was feeling herself going to hyperventilate. Of course the idea was ridiculous and obsured, Russ wasn't even Gay! "If you have something important to tell me you better just spit it out" she sighed.

Ash had to laugh a little at the mother part. "Actually it's probably a good thing you're not my mom. We'd get along a little too well I think!" he quipped. Why was this a big issue? Let's see... he was a Laurent, Alex was a Malfoy. Yea...kind of an issue there!
Ash sat down next to Jen and sighed, running a hand through his hair. His hand fell limply into his lap. "It's a big deal because..." He paused, not sure how to say it. Probably best to just say it and get it over with. "He's a Malfoy." He said quietly looking down at his hands. If Jen had read any history on Pureblood families she would know that the Laurent's and the Malfoy's had been locked in a bitter feud for the past hundred and fifty years. That was why this was wrong. It was forbidden. It was bad enough that Ash's best friend was a Malfoy, now he was dating one!
He looked up at Jen, worry and anxiety in his eyes. What would she do? Would she tell his family that he was seeing someone who was supposed to be his enemy? Or... did she even know of the feud?
Ash didn't understand why their families were feuding in the first place. It didn't make sense. He knew that the Malfoy's tended to refer to the Laurent's as 'blood traitors' simply because they had not supported the Dark Lord.
Ash searched Jen's face as if looking for answers to his problems. He knew she had a point about taking it slow. But he also knew that he had fallen in love the minute he'd laid eyes on Alex. Love at first sight. It might've sounded cheesy, but it was true. With Maxi and Cris, they had been friends first, but with Alex, it was instant. Just like that.
It wasn't that hard to tell either. All Jen had to do was look in his eyes and she would be able to see just how he felt. It was almost like a glow surrounding him. You couldn't see it, not really. But it was there. It wasn't the red-hot fire of lust, but instead a warm, golden glow of contentment and acceptance. It was the sound of his voice when he talked about Alex, the look in his eyes when he thought about him. It was the look, of someone who had finally found that one person they'd been looking for their whole life.

"A MALFOY!" Jen screached before clapping her hands over her mouth at the sheer high tone and volume of her words. Seperating her fingers she frowned at Ash before speaking once again in a calmer and quieter tone. "A Malfoy? Laurent you gotta be kidding me. Are you serious?" she asked again wanting reassurance that she hoped he didn't just say a Malfoy.
She sat in stunned silence for a moment, failing to speak, her brain had failed her. This was huge. Not just huge for Ash, I mean she was sort of happy for him but why did he have to go and fall in love with a bloody Malfoy? Of all families he had to choose one of the most renouned and evil families known in the magical world. Typical Ash, it seemed he was destined for a hard life and a broken heart.
Her nose crinkled as words finally came back to her, she looked back at Ashton with a hundred questions buzzing around in her mind. "Are Malfoy's even allowed to be gay?" was her first. It didn't seem like the best question to ask, but it just slipped out, she was still stunned. Was she harbouring some sort of gay love family feud criminal and would the malfoy soon be under the same roof?
"Ash, come on. How is it possible, how is HE possible? Surly to protect the whole Pure-blooded Slytherin roots he will be arranged to be married? This whole thing doesn't make any sense" she said, mumbling the last part to herself.

Ash had had a feeling that Jen would react like this. But that didn't make it hurt any less. He winced at her words. "Jen, he's not like the other Malfoy's!" he protested, looking up at the woman in front of him. He thought Jen would be happy for him. He wanted her to be happy for him.
"Jen please, just hear me out. Alex isn't like the other Malfoy's. He doesn't care about the whole 'Purebloods are better than everyone else' crap. Yes, he is a Malfoy, but no, he is not one to lord it over people."
Ash smiled a little at Jen's "Are Malfoy's even allowed to be gay?" comment. "Wow, brilliant response Jen!" he quipped, some of his regular snarkiness slipping in, relieving some of the tension. "Well, whether Alex is allowed to be gay or not, he is and there's really nothing anyone can do about it."
He sighed again. "Look Jen, I understand why you're concerned. He's a Malfoy, I'm a Laurent. We're supposed to be enemies, not lovers! It doesn't make sense to me either."
He smiled sadly. "But then again, when does life ever make sense?"
His eyes hardened. "Jen, I know I've said this about Cris but I was wrong. I didn't love him. Not the way I do Alex. Just look at me. Do you honestly believe that I don't love Alex?"

Jen unknowingly frowned before finding the back of the couch and leaning against it with her hands. She searched his face for a moment, hoping it would give her some sort of easy explanation but it just was not going to be as simple as she had hoped. All that ran through her mind was panic, not for herself, but for Ash. "Ash, do you know what you're getting yourselves into? I've run into probably one or two of the Malfoy clan in my entire life and it's not something I plan on doing again any time soon" she replied, again searching Ashton's face for just a small hint of untangling this whole mess.
"I didn't mean is he allowed to be gay, well, i'm not sure what I meant exactly" she pondered, tapping her lips with her finger for a moment before looking back at him as her imaginary light bulb turned on above her head. "Oh yes, I remember now. Old age, old brain and all that" she smirked before getting back down to business. In truth, she hated seeming like Ashton's mother all the time, it wasn't particularly pleasant for either of them. "I meant with his family being pure bloods and all, won't he already had a bridezilla waiting to be married to him?" she asked him, seemingly interested in the whole arranged marriage thing.
She stood up to Ashton's shoulder and reached up to them, placing her hands either side of his neck before sighing, absentmindedly wiping a piece of fluff from his shoulder and then moving her hands to his face, cupping his cheeks. "Whatever makes you happy hun, the rest will have to be dealt with one day at a time" she gave a half-hearted smiled before pulling him into a hug. A tear threatened to fall over her cheek although she pulled herself together not letting it get the better of her. "But if any bricks come through my window from the Malfoys, you're paying for it to be fixed" she quipped.
