Midnight wasn't normally a time when most people decided to go for a broom ride. But then again, Ashton Laurent wasn't exactly a normal boy. Not to say that he was abnormal perse... he was... well...what was he exactly? Hard to say... confident, yet shy, sweet, yet vicious, playful, yet serious, an angel, a devil... every color, black and white. He was afraid of nothing... but afraid of everything. He had everything figured out... he didn't have a clue. He liked being by himself, he hated to be alone. He was all extremes. He was just...himself. Ashton Jade Laurent. Take it or leave it folks...
But, that still didn't explain why he decided to go for a broom ride at midnight... maybe it was stress... he had been working pretty hard lately... or...confusion? What was he going to do with his life? He wasn't ready to be on his own yet! What if he screwed up? He didn't know how to be an adult! It wasn't like Hogwarts offered 'Growing Up 101' as a class!
Yet, here he was. Eighteen years old, graduated from school, holding a job, no love life, and living on his own...it was a huge difference from the life he knew just months ago. A life where he'd had shared a dorm with Merlin knows how many other boys, he'd had classes to keep him occupied, and for a time...Quidditch.
Ash smiled as he thought of his Quidditch days. He'd been Captain of the Ravenclaw House Team during his sixth... that was also when he'd been in Calypso with...Fay and Bray... before they'd had that stupid fight...after that Ash had resigned from the team and left Calypso. Although that last one wasn't really an opption. Fay and Bray had made it clear that they wanted nothing to do with him... but, he couldn't dwell on that now... put the past in the past. That was the lesson he'd learned this past summer. He couldn't change the past, but the future could be whatever he wanted. And Ash vowed that from now on, his life would kick ass!
Reaching the pitch...he looked up at the stars sparkling like diamonds against velvet. A smile played on his lips, wind ruffled his hair. It was a perfect night for flying...
Swinging his leg up onto his Lightningbolt 3000 he kicked off hard from the ground, soaring up into the air. Sheer bliss filling him. He was in his element. As Ash flew back and forth lost in thought...a voice, an extremely familiar voice, jerked him hard back down to earth. Figuratively speaking of course...

It was criminal for Hubbles to force the prefects to be up this late. Felicity was hardly awake, and if she didn’t keep walking she would probably just collapse on the floor and sleep there. Sure, being prefect was cool at times, but when it came to late night rounds, Fay would certainly love to voice some complaints. But then Hubbles would go into his whole –prepared speech because it wasn’t the only time there had been a complaint—about how it was an honor for her to be chosen to be prefect and it was her duty to the school to put in extra effort. Bull, he was just too lazy to do the rounds himself.
A grimace crossed her face as she slowly dragged her feet along the grass, trying her best not to collapse on the spot. It wasn’t like she was going to find anything anyway. And even if she did, she was far too tired to stop someone if it did come to that. One would think that walking out into the frigid air would wake her up, but she was so used to the cold by now it only helped to make her more tired. But a cup of warm tea sounded so good right now. Warm tea, and cookies, and a huge fire. Her mouth was watering already, and she picked up the pace so she could finish her rounds more quickly. The quicker she moved, the quicker she could sink her teeth into a giant cookie. Mmm…
Sadly, it wasn’t to be. As soon as she turned the corner, she stopped in her tracks. There was someone standing in the quidditch pitch, obviously oblivious to the late hour. Honestly, who would have the urge to fly this late at night? Or this early in the morning…she wasn’t quite sure what the time was anymore. Grumbling something under her breath, she trudged forward. Stupid kid had to ruin her night—or morning—and just had to go flying. Why the hell he couldn’t wait until a more reasonable time was beyond her, but it seemed that kids were only getting crazier as the term went on.
“Is there a reason why you’re out at some ridiculous time in the night…er…morning, or are you just mentally deranged?” Felicity squinted up at the person, not exactly able to see who it was. For one, they were flying back and forth, and another was that she wasn’t part cat like Bray, so of course she couldn’t see that well in the dark. With a small flick of her wrist, the tip of her wand emitted a soft glow, but that didn’t really help her to figure out who was the idiot on the broom.

The voice belonged to one Felicity Locke. Of course. He figured Fay would be out prowling around. She'd always done stuff like that. Ash had to bite back a snicker as her wand tip lit up. Did she honestly think that would help her see better dark as it was? A low laugh escaped his lips. "Well, glad to see you haven't changed a bit. And yes, I am mentally deranged, thank you for pointing that out. No, it not the reason I am out here. The reason I am out here is because I obviously wanted to go flying and since I've been working my ass off lately, this was the only chance I had."
A smirk in place, Ash flew down to hover in front of his forme friend. "Felicity Locke. How nice to see you again." His words, though not entirely unkind were laced with sarcasm. If there was one thing to be said for Ashton it was that during his absence he'd become alot more snarky and sarcastic. He might even give Bray a run for his money. But, he was honestly glad to see Fay after so long and it showed in his smile...
((Now that sucks. end of story))

Prowling? Hardly. Prowling would mean that she was sneaking around, trying not to get caught. But here she was, dreaming that she was rather in bed than in this frigid air. Her lips twitched slightly in annoyance by the fact that this kid had her up still. For merlin’s sake, couldn’t kids just stay in their beds until she little check up was over? After that they could run naked for all she cared. It would be Hubbles’ problem if that happened, because she would be tucked safely into her bed. That sounded so nice right about now…
The voice that came from somewhere above her had clearly startled her, because she seemed to have a spasm in response. For a moment, she didn’t quite believe her ears. Maybe she was just really tired, and hearing voices now. Though why it would be Ash’s voice she wasn’t quite sure. If anything, it would probably be Bray’s sarcastic voice that haunted her, because he couldn’t quite seem to leave her alone. Ash’s voice broke through her ranting thoughts again as he continued with his little monologue. Bloody hell, it was him.
But wait, wasn’t he supposed to be in France or something? Confusion flit across her face as her eyebrows knit together. That’s what she heard anyway. That he had gone off to France to go do…whatever. But apparently, he was back now. Why? Wouldn’t France be more interesting than plain old Hogwarts? Okay, well, Hogwarts at the present was probably more interesting and dangerous than any other place, but that was beside the point.
Ash came down to hover near her, and she blinked rapidly for several moments. The sarcasm was definitely…unexpected. Actually, he had somewhat expected to be shouted at or something along those lines. The two hadn’t exactly left on the best of terms. But, the sarcasm did seem to hit a nerve, because her lip twisted into a tight line.
“Judging by your tone, I bet you’re absolutely thrilled to the bone to see me again.” Crossing her arms, she leaned back slightly away from Ash, not entirely comfortable with the proximity. “Though I would like to know why you’re out here in the first place. You’ve graduated already, or left…or whatever. Which means that you’re not supposed to be out here at some ridiculous time in the morning trying to fly.” She took another large breath and continued. “You’re keeping me from some hot chocolate and a warm being for being out here.” At least she seemed to calm down a bit because her voice wasn’t so harsh. Or maybe it was just because she was dead tired.

Ash had to bite back a laugh. "Trying to fly? Fay, I know how to fly! Actually, I'm considering signing with the Kenmore Kestrels. Seeker of course." He shrugged. "And yeah, I did leave for France. But it's not like I had intentions of never coming back. I work at Club Motion now and I've been working my ass off lately so I decided I needed a break. What better way to relax than by flying?"
He laughed lightly, "Fay, it's not like there's a rule that says I can't be on school grounds. I am a former student, so why shouldn't I be allowed? My question is, what are you doing out so late?" He wasn't yet aware that she was a Prefect.
Ash shook his head. "Fay, I am glad to see you. As much as you probably still despise me, which, I don't blame you; you have every right to. I still missed you." he smiled again. But this time it wasn't a sad, regretful smile but a bright happy one. The kind they had exchanged back when they were friends.
He frowned a little at her complaint. "Aww, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

It was strange hearing her name on Ash’s lips again, and her nickname at that. She internally cringed as he said it, though her face portrayed nothing. “Yes Mr. Laurent, trying. Because who in their right mind would go flying at midnight with no obvious source of light.” Fay rolled her eyes as if the thought was completely obvious. Well it should’ve been at least. Flying around in the dark didn’t exactly sound like a Sherlock idea now did it?
“The key word in that statement is former. Meaning, you don’t get the same luxuries as students currently do now. What would happen if we just let random strangers into the school eh?” The thought of her mother skipping through the school had her shuddering momentarily. Now that was someone who needed to stay far away from Hogwarts that was certain. Felicity blinked at Ash as he questioned her again. She arched an eyebrow at him and placed a hand on her hip. Honestly, this boy was blind. Didn’t he see the badge? “I’m a prefect.” She gestured to the badge and sent a silent glare over to Hubbles’ tower.
What she hadn’t expected was Ash to spill his feelings so suddenly. She blinked again, slowly, not really understand why he gave the little speech in the first place. “Er…alright.” Now what was she supposed to say in response to that? ‘I’m glad you’ve missed me, but I’d like to happily get on with my life now’ wasn’t really going to cut it. She was too tired to deal with any of this right now. If only Bray was here to say some sarcastic, snarky comment and then just be done with it.
“Not completely your fault I suppose, Hubbles was the one who ‘suggested’ we walk around the grounds too. I just wish he would let us sleep in more.” She grumbled as her lower lip pushed out into a small pout. It was such a Fay look, it was even hilarious in her bad mood.

Ash just shook his head. "I hardly see being at this school a luxury." he replied cynically. He raised an incredulous eyebrow at her next words. "Oh, so now I'm a stranger?"
Then he noticed to what she was pointing to. "Prefect? Wow. Congratulations, that's a bit of a surprise."
He smiled sheepishly. "Well, I guess I could've waited till morning to go flying." he admitted. But then he realised, he wasn't a child anymore, he was an adult. He should be able to fly whenever he wanted. "But, I'd rather not. I like flying at night."
He smirked, "Just as long as you don't tell on me that is! Not that Professor Hubbles can really do anything about it. No offense meant of course. But I am graduated and I am an adult."
Superiority set aside, he smiled apprahensively. "So, how have you been? Are classes going well?"
He didn't know exactly why he was talking to her. She obviously still loathed him. But he'd aplogized more times than he could be bothered to count! He knew he'd made a mistake, and he was trying to make amends for it...but...Fay was just too damn stubborn to see that.
Maybe...maybe Fay wasn't someone he wanted as a friend. After all, aren't true friends there till the end? Don't they give second chances, no matter how huge the mistake was? Aren't they suppsed to stick with you through the ups and downs? Aren't they supposed to be there for you no matter what?
As much as he hated to admit it, Fay had deserted him. Yes, he had made mistakes, he'd been too caught up in his own little world to notice the things around him. But he'd changed now. He no longer focused on himself. Why couldn't Fay see that? Why was she so blind?
