Humid, hot, sweaty, sticky, bright... those were only half of the words Arabelle could think of to describe this terrible summer day. Ara usually loved summer, but this one wasn't like most. This summer she wasn't taking a vacation, but staying at Hogwarts. Most of her friends left for their families, so she didn't have anyone to hang out with. Ara thought this was a good oppurtunity to make new friends, but so far that hadn't happened.
She woke up to no covers, a muggy pillow, and on the ground. Arabelle got up, grabbed a pair of denim shorts, a Gryffindor t-shirt, and some flip flops, and she headed for a shower. After rinsing off, Ara put on her clothes and shot out of the dorm and then left the common room. Even though it was disgusting outside, Arabelle wasn't staying crammed inside all summer, so great outdoors here she comes.
Arabelle ran outside and sniffed in the wonderful smell: a mixture of pollen, grass, and air. Ara couldn't decide whether to go to the lake, courtyard, quidditch pitch, or just stay in the grass. Arguing with herself in her mind Arabelle just sat on a rock and layed there sucking in all of the heat. She was already sweating up a storm. She was loving the peace and quiet, but then someone walked up and disturbed her.

The dry grass screamed when Theodorik walked across the dry lawn of the castle grounds. The crunching continued as he made his way toward the castle. He was sweating a storm, plastering his strawberry-blond hair to his forehead and condensing to his glasses. It was an unbearably hot day for Scotland! Living even this far north didn't spare you from the heat. If there was anything Theo hated about the weather, it was the cold in the morning, the heat in the day, and the cold in the evening.
As Theo passed a rock near the castle, he glanced slightly and looked back, before looking at the rock again. Lying against the rock was a girl Theo had seen about the grounds before, but had failed to communicate with. She was a fifth year Gryffindor, making it unlikely for Theo to have met her before. She seemed to be hot and sweaty, making Theo worry for her health. He walked over her, bringing his shadow across her and asked, "Are you well? It seems you've fainted or something of the sort." He smiled, knowing she hadn't fainted, but it was the beginning of conversation, something Theo had missed in his earlier three years at Hogwarts.

Arabelle had been relaxing. She couldn't help, but try to relax in a very uncomfortable position on a bumpy, hard rock. She must look like dead or hurt.... she hoped nobody would think that. Giggling to herself, she swore if someone did she had to cover it with something.
Just after that thought a persons shadow covered her. Ara almost let out a huge laugh. Turning her head to face the shadow giver she noticed that it was a young boy, she didn't recognize him, so must be a different house.
Smiling, Arabelle heard him speak. This time she did let out a laugh. "No silly, i'm just fine..." Ara looked him over. He couldn't be too much younger than herself, but definetely not fifteen. He seemed very smart, because she guessed she did look very sickly.

As Theo asked the 'dead' girl if she was alright, she turned around and laughed. Theo grimaced to himself, feeling strangely self-conscious. Had he done something stupid already? "No silly, I'm just fine," she said. Theo had never been called 'silly' before, since he was often too serious for anyone to think such things of him. He smiled anyway, hoping to seem friendly. "Sorry," he said in his cracking voice, "you just looked rather ill is all."
He scratched his head, keeping his big grin out for all to see. "Do you plan to lie there and be taken for dead all day?" he said, jokingly, "it's right hot out here. Perhaps you ought to find some shade." He continued standing above the girl, waiting, hoping for a response.

Whenever the boy grimaced, Arabelle guessed that calling him silly wasn't the best thing to do. After her conclusion on a Ravenclaw she was sure he probably didn't appreciate that. Ara giggled again. "Well i'm sorry that you thought I looked sick!" She said as a smile creeped up on her face,"and it's okay, i'm glad somebody cared enough to ask."
Arabelle sat up on the rock to face the young boy. "What's your name?" Ara asked. She was quite curious. She hadn't ever seen the boy and he was talking to her and came up randomly like he knew her. "And yes actually I was thinking of doing just that." She said kind of objectedly.

As the girl sat on the rock, she asked Theodorik what his name was. Quickly, almost uncannily, he answered, "I'm Theodorik, though most people call me Theo. What's your name?" His smile closed a bit, hiding his teeth, though still keeping the atmosphere light. "You mind if I join you? It's been rather boring here with no one to talk with except books that have a hard time communicating." Theo thought he was funny with the book line, though he was sadly unarmed in the realm of humour.
Speaking with a girl made Theo nervous since he rarely spoken with people of his own sex, let alone the opposite. He shuffled his feet, hoping he wouldn't feel more an idiot than he already felt. Oh why hadn't he just gone to the library, where he would have felt better? It was unbeknown of him to walk about the grounds in the heat of the day. He could hardly wait until school started again.

The sun was getting unbareably hot, but Arabelle certainly couldn't go inside now. Not after she had just told the boy she was going to stay out here all day. Ara would just have to toughen it up. Smiling she heard the boy start to answer her question. He spoke in a soft, but light voice.
"I'm Theodorik, though most people call me Theo. What's your name?"
Her smile began to fade, but her spirits were kept high. "Well hello Theo, i'm Arabelle, but most people call me Ara, but I prefer Arabelle, but I don't care either way-" Ara cut heself off. She begun to ramble and that was never a good thing. Even though the boy was younger than herself and in a different house, it still wasn't good on her behalf. Just after her answer he spoke again.
"You mind if I join you? It's been rather boring here with no one to talk with except books that have a hard time communicating."
Arabelle laughed at his joke, just to make him feel better, because to her the joke wasn't funny. But giving Theo the benfit of the doubt, she guessed he wasn't much good at humor. "Sorry, but I couldn't help but guess that you were a Ravenclaw. You said you like reading. Me too- what's your favorite book?" She asked,"Seems if were going to become friends I might as well learn a bit about you." She laughed a real laugh and her grin got a bit bigger. Arabelle very rarely talked to younger students, but found it to be quite fun.

The girl seemed sociable enough, even toward Theo. She had guessed correctly that he was a Ravenclaw. Perhaps a little too obvious. Theo was never one for simple humour. His was the realm of wit and fast-paced words. In no time he could battle a person to tears with words, something others could not claim without lying.
He smiled at the girl, "Yes, I'm a Ravenclaw. And, I really haven't a favourite book. I just love to read most things." He smiled even more, when the girl suggested the to be friends, something that Theo had had little experience with in recent history. "What's your favourite book," he asked inquisitively. Perhaps, he could make friends.

The wind had picked up. How long had they been out here? it was getting to be toward the end of August and the sun was still very hot and bright. Maybe in England the sun never went away, but Arabelle knew that to be a lie. In the winter months fluffy snow and wet ice covered the grounds. She loved it during those months. She could bundle up and go outside and catch a cold. Ara smiled at her thoughts.
"Yes, I'm a Ravenclaw. And, I really haven't a favourite book. I just love to read most things."
Arabelle nodded her head. That seemed like a most normal Ravenclaw answer. They never have favorite books, or ones they read over and over, or just fell in love with. They probably do, but have an oath they just can't give away their cover. Ara smirked at her imagination of a boy giving his favorite book away and then get carried away by the wind.
"What's your favourite book,"
As the wind picked up some pieces of Arabelle's long blonde hair she smiled. The Gryffindor knew that this question was coming. She had two or three favorite books, but really couldn't choose. "Well. I quite fancy Dragonology books; but Hogwart's A History I've read many time..." Ara said answering his question. Her list could go on and on and she had an explanation for them all. Leaning back against the rock she took in some of the cool muggy air.

Theodorik was interested to hear the girl was not quite as dense as other Gryffindors he had met. She seemed smart enough to have a favourite book, something that many people would simply not answer to. As Theo thought of it, he did have some books he tended to look back at, "Well, actually; there are some books I like more. Uh, one is Theoretical Magic for Research, and another is Hogwarts, a History. I'm sure I've read both of them at least fifty times."
Theo began to feel a little more comfortable as a breeze lifted the warm air into a livable temperature. His hair ruffled slightly as he sat down across from the girl, making a large leap into the realm of sociability. He smiled, "what's your favourite part of Hogwarts, a History?"

Arabelle thought that she had felt the wind. Oh goody her. Yay for a breeze. She sat up again when the boy, Theo, had begun to mention his favorite books. One had matched hers. She began to get a bit excited. Something to discuss. He brought up the conversation. Good for him.
"Well, actually; there are some books I like more. Uh, one is Theoretical Magic for Research, and another is Hogwarts, a History. I'm sure I've read both of them at least fifty times."
Hmm... this was quite hard. Ara didn't believe she had actually ever read the first book the Ravenclaw mentioned, so she decided to tell him that. Clearing her throat Arabelle began to speak,"I don't believe i've ever read Theoretical Magic, for Research..." It made her giggle. Theooretical to Theo, it sort of matched. No wonder he liked it, but she was sure he'd never thought of that.
"what's your favourite part of Hogwarts, a History?"
The first time Arabelle had ever read Hogwarts, A History was in her first year on the way to Hogwarts. She wanted to know all about it before she got there. Did she have a favorite part? Hard to say. "Well if I must answer then about the Great Hall... all the fun stuff about it!" She smiled and sat quietly.

Theodorik was becoming far more comfortable. Arabellle said her favourite part of Hogwarts, a History was the information about the Great Hall. Theo thought about the book; there wasn't anything Theo found more interesting than the information about secret passages. Most people knew about the ones in the book; however, Theo was sure he had found all the passages. He spoke to Arabelle, "I thought the stuff about the Great Hall was interesting as well; but my favourite part was about the secret passages."
Theodorik smiled as he realised the weather was becoming quite livable. A small breeze blew by as clouds floated in front of the sun. He took a deep breath. "I'm glad the weather is better," he said. The day was certainly better than it would have been if he'd stayed in the library.

Arabelle smiled. A small breeze blew by every once in awhile as she sat on the rock with the little Ravenclaw. He liked to talk and make up new subjects, and Ara found that to be a bit odd, because she always thought that Ravenclaws, especially young ones, were supposed to be shy? But whatever. She was making a new friend today and that was exciting. Even though Ara was quite good looking and very sweet she didn't have any super awesome friends, so maybe Theo would be that friend?
She grinned. Those parts of the book had helped her through her third and fourth year to sneaking through the school at night. But she didn't think that would be the best thing to tell a Ravenclaw, that could easily go tell a teacher and Ara would be expelled no matter how long ago it was. Giggling she said,"Yep that chapter helped me a lot awhile back!" Her grinned turned to a grimace as she remembered those days.
Arabelle let her head hang back and her hair flew in the wind. It was amazing for the breeze. She laughed and said,"I have to agree, the outdoors and weather is wonderful!"
