A loud and unexpected scream broke the silence in the Hufflepuff common room followed by a crash as something glass hit the opposite wall. A crowd of younger students circled around two older students; a fifth year girl, Alice Haile, and a sixth year boy, Shaun Zinn. A tiff had erupted between the two and it was obvious that Alice was more than angry. Alice was supposed to be helping Shaun with his potions but when Alice reached down to grab a quill out of her book bag; Shaun had accidentally knocked his cauldron spilling the contents on Alice’s head. What had happened next was entertaining for the onlookers but terrifying for Shaun himself.
“You! You did this to me!” Alice shouted, wand out and pointing directly at Shaun. She wasn’t exactly sure what she was going to do to him but all she knew was, well she was pissed. She had already sent a few bottles flying across the room; it was all she could muster not to send her ex flying across the room as well. “You stupid, ignorant,“ ignorant what exactly? “Aargh! Why do you have to be so- so!” Alice was so upset she could barely finish her own sentences. Her eyes burned with anger and her cheeks flushed with heat. What exactly had Shaun Zinn done to the girl, you wonder? Well the once straight-haired brunette was now sporting a head of wavy blonde locks.
Shaun raised his hands in defense, terrified of what Alice was capable of. Although Shaun was a year ahead of Alice, the girl was much more advance in Charms, Transfiguration and most importantly, she was much more advanced in Defense Against the Dark Arts; the subject which Shaun was just passing. He was defenseless, making it that much more important to calm Alice down. He had left his wand in his school robes in the boy’s dormitories thinking he wouldn’t need it. Boy was he wrong. “Whoa, whoa, whoa!” he shouted back at her. “A- Alice, just calm down, alright? Don’t you think you’re over-reacting?” his attempts to calm her down were proving useless at the moment.
“Calm down? Calm down?! Shaun! Look at me!” she said, pulling at a chunk of her new hair with her free hand. “I’m blonde! BLONDE!” she shouted once more, “And it’s your fault! Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t hex you where you stand,” she said through gritted teeth.
Shaun gave a feeble attempt of a smile, “Because you love me?” As soon as he finished the sentence, Alice had sent another bottle flying at his head which Shaun was able to dodge. “Okay, I take that as a no. But! Look at it this way, at least the blonde suits you!” he said with a chuckle before another bottle was soaring passed his right shoulder. Alice did not think it was funny in the slightest. “Oh come on, Alice! You like change, you said so yourself. Just think of this as, as a-“ But Shaun didn’t get a chance to finish his sentence. A fist had collided with his left eye. Alice had punched him, a nice hit as well.
“How’s that for change,” she muttered before storming out of the common room. She’d apologize later once she cooled down but picturing Shaun with a nice shiner made her smirk. He’d go to the hospital wing, she was sure of it and Mr. Rowle would heal his eye in seconds but still. She had punched Shaun Zinn and to be honest, she felt a little proud of herself for it. Now to find Dante or Rose and see if one of them could fix her hair.
Alice wasn’t quite sure where to look for her friends so she was left to wander the corridors trying to hide her hair under the hood of her sweater. It was useless though. The blonde waves kept finding ways to make themselves seen. Finally Alice had spotted a familiar head of hair coming out of a classroom. Rose would know what to do, or at least Alice hoped she would. Grabbing hold of her arm, Alice pulled Rose aside, “Rose, I need your help,” she whispered in a pleading way, pulling the hood down a bit more to cover her face. Alice knew that there was nothing that could be done to fix what Shaun did but she wasn’t going to accept it without going through every single way possible to fix it.
