Polaris' eyebrows furrowed as she blinked away the tears and shook her head before outstretching her hand to grasp Noahs, letting him assist in pulling her up.
After reaching solid, earthy ground, the Ravenclaw scrunched her nose up at the stench. She would just have to deal. The dim lighting of their surrounding was a slight hinderment, but didn't do too much to their senses.
Curious, Polaris crouched down near a carcass. "What'dya suppose it is?" She asked while poking it with the tip of her wand. "A pixie of some sort? A goblin maybe?"

Noah watched as a few insects crawled from the dead body as she poked it. They clipped across the grass, scuttling away from the pair like a hoard of beetles - only larger and with horns.
Following the direction they hurried off to with an imploring gaze, Noah sucked in a sharp breath and took a step back. He stepped on the carcass accidentally, the crack of bone prominent under his shoe.
"I reckon it's anything trolls are interested in eating," he murmured under his breath, eyes trained on the horrific beast just meters away from them. He was swaying dangerously, probably because of his sheer size, and each time he tilted to the side, Noah caught sight of the rickety bridge behind the body.
Slipping his wand from his belt loop, Noah sent Polaris a sidelong glance. "Hopefully trolls don't find humans particularly appetising."
Then, slowly balancing against Polaris, Noah whispered against the side of her face, not trusting to look away from the troll completely. "If we can stall it long enough to get on that bridge..." His voice was heavy with uncertainty. "It won't follow us, he knows it'll fall apart under him."

Polaris soon stopped poking at the corpse and stood tall next to Noah, completely silent as fear gripped at her heart.
"I see you skipped your creatures class too, didn't you? Trolls eat any raw flesh... and aren't picky." She returned the whisper, swallowing lightly. "And I honestly don't think he will stop on the bridge.. rolls are dumber than a box of rocks."
"If we can stall it long enough to get on that bridge..." His voice was heavy with uncertainty. That didn't quite sooth her troubled mind.
With a heavy gulp, she stepped forward. "Noah.. I'll stall the troll. You just make sure to get on the other side of that bridge. Okay?" Polaris said before she gained the attention of the troll involuntarily.

He winced at her comment because of how truthful it had been. Noah had missed quite a few of his classes, the topic of trolls certainly being one of them. Cracking a few more bones as he stepped closer to the monster, Noah couldn't help but feel like he were in some sort of warped cemetery.
"Now, Polaris," he whispered softly to her, turning his head to watch her with a resolute gaze yet still facing his body toward troll. "That idea is absolutely absurd! You're the brainless one if you think I'm going to leave you on your own with that thing for even a second." He managed to smile crookedly at her, but it disappeared from his face when he noticed the creature staring at Polaris interestedly.
Clenching his wand in a fist until his fingernails dug into his palm, Noah stared ahead as the troll marched toward them, waddling and groaning miserably with every step. "You're right," he finally said, eyes growing light despite the gloomy situation. "So our best bet isn't to try and outrun him, but to trick him. Find a way to get him on that bridge and watch it collapse."
They would easily find another way across without the threat of a blood-thirsty troll breathing unwashed breath down their necks.

With haggard breath, Polaris kept eye contact with the enormous troll as it came ever closer. Time was running out for the two to come up with a plan, but she had something in mind.
Looking to Noah for a moment before whispering softly, she had left room in her idea for his input. "I'll morph into my animagus form and distract him. I'm sure he'll be more interested in a smaller creature, than a self-defending human. While his back is turned and I lead him to the bridge, you can cast a few spells.. and then.." Her voice trailed off while offering a shrug. She didn't like the idea of revealing her animagus form due to possible ridicule, but it seemed like she had no other choice. But then again, if you were with Polaris, there was always a second, even third choice.
Suddenly, another idea popped into her head."Or, if you want to do it the easy way, we could always keep blasting it constantly with different spells. Or, here's another one! I dress you up as a female troll and you gain his attention, then I can shoot 'em up!" All that talk and excitement had rather gotten to the girl, causing her to lapse back into her thick accent with a wild grin on her lips. Ah. The joys of having heathens as ancestors.

Noah stared at Polaris for a long moment after she explained her idea. "I'm insulted if you really think I have what it takes to pull off being a female troll!" His eyes tried to defy the amusement crawling into them, but he finally succumbed and broke out into a slight laugh. Though, what she'd initially said finally caught up with him and he paused, eyes glancing sideways toward the oncoming creature.
He remembered back to her numerous wolfish grins and they seemed to come off as increasingly animalistic as he continued to dwell on it. He finally had to look away from her unusual gaze when the troll's latest groan was close enough to cause the abused carcass under his foot to shake.
"Your first idea, however, I can agree to," he nodded. It was fortunate that Polaris was quick on her feet because after sending her a meaningful glance, and letting the troll grow within a few feet of them, he finally darted away toward the bridge.
Adrenaline fueled him. His legs worked at a speed he thought was unimaginable and Noah reached the bridge in less than half the time the slow, blundering troll did. Of course, the result was him dropping onto his knees, inhaling deeply to fill his lungs.
When he finally peered over the edge, to which the bridge dangled over, Noah's expression grew immediately irritated.
"Oh, Hell --" He let out a string of curses, pulling himself up and turning to face the castle growing somewhat visible across a violent body of water. "It's a bloody mote!"

Polaris couldn't help but to share a small laugh in this dim situation from his troll comment. Hell, it could have worked! Before too long though, she was brought back into grim reality once remembering that the troll was closing in on them.
Passing him a sidelong glance as he was getting ready to book it, she nodded to him in agreement. As he turned heel and ran past the troll, she morphed instantly. Bones cracked, popped and set back into place within a matter of seconds, revealing not a human, but large timber wolf.
Polaris glanced at Noah, making sure he was preparing for what was to come before her eyes snapped back to the troll. Snarling and baring her fangs at the horrid beast, she let out a low growl which seemed to work perfectly. It not only annoyed and brought the ambling troll closer, but caused him to raise his giant war-club in aggrivation as well. Or perhaps it was hunger. Polaris really couldn't tell at this point, but it's not like it mattered anyways.
Running forward just as it's club was raised, the wolf passed right through it's legs, but not before stopping to bite at the sensitive flesh of the Troll's achilles tendon. The beast grumbled and let out a bellowing tone in pain and brought down his club in an arching swing as he turned to Polaris, aiming for her. She scuttled away from the club by darting to the side, just before the maul had hit the ground, cracking and splitting it.
She kept on harassing the troll while jumping from side to side, barking, snarling, howling and snapping her salivating jaws all the while leading it back onto the bridge where Noah was. Finally, once she was within mere feet of him, she looked back expectantly.

Prying himself away from what he really wanted to do, peer at the wolf's eyes to see if they were also alluring in colour, Noah raised an arm and waited for the duo to close in on him.
The troll was still ambling backwards, so to relieve pressure on Polaris, Noah sent a firecracker spell into the air above him. It burst, casting an eerie light upon their wilting sanctuary, accompanied by a deafening noise that instantly managed to catch the troll's attention. "Big oaf," Noah muttered, his trainers half sunk into mud while still perched dangerously. The troll was seeming confused and distracted with the bright lights in the purplish sky, and the Gryffindor took advantage immediately.
He knew sheer force wouldn't be enough to stop the troll - it was the beast's only strength. He studied how immersed it was in the flashing lights for a moment, before breaking out into an ill-placed smile. The situation and flickering lights made his expression seem almost sinister.
"Flagrate!"
Sparks flew from Noah's wand, before a thin stream of dazzling red protruded from its tip. He'd decided to use a simple wand writing spell. Drawing a small spiral into the grass, singing what was already dead, Noah watched the troll follow it, instantly relieved that whatever his plan was had the ability to work. Slowly, as the troll followed his line of magic, Noah led his heavyset, moving form to the bridge and waited with bated breath when it reached the very edge.
The troll stopped for a moment, apparently in thought, before reaching one gigantic foot forward.
With a loud snap, the tassels holding the bridge together collapsed. It took a long moment for the troll's features to mould into surprise, and by the time his nose finally crinkled, he and the bridge were already spiraling downward.
Noah exhaled loudly and turned back to the mote. It was bubbling violently where the troll had fallen, and Noah widened his eyes at seeing a kappa break through the surface with the troll's ear lodged happily in its mouth.

Noah pulled through in the end and quite impressively, she might add. Deciding to stay where she was as to not pry distraction away from the troll, Polaris simply sat her little mutt-butt down on the gass, watching the Gryffindor intently.
His plan was quite tactful and also successful. Though, she did have to admit, she hated the bunch of loud noises his wand produced as it hurt her ears, she couldn't complain but merely cover them with her paws and give a soft grunt.
Finally, as the troll ambled toward the wooden bridge, it stopped. Go on you big oaf! She urged in her head. Not a moment later, the troll stepped forward, effectively breaking the bridge and plummiting to it's death. Wonderous!
Quite happy with their plan, the wolf simply trotted over to Noah with the same old wolfish smile on her features and sat down next to him. After a moment, she looked up and caught his gaze as if saying, 'Hey, good job, mate!" all while her tongue lolled out of the side of her fanged mouth.

"We'll not be swimming today," Noah murmured, settling down on his heels and facing the wolf curiously. After watching the animal - Polaris - snapping her jaws and clawing viciously at the troll, it was surreal to see how subdued she could be. Though he'd known of the animagi that wandered Hogwarts, he'd never had one so close.
Smiling crookedly, Noah set down his wand next to him against the singed spiral patterns in the ground, and reached out a tentative hand to the wolf. It was still Polaris, so he knew he shouldn't have been as hesitant as he was, though the thought didn't stop him from being so.
Finally sinking a few fingers into the fur, Noah grinned broadly and in a playful manner, cupped the sensitive ears in either of his hands. Leaning toward the animagus, noticing how her ears seemed to twitch at even the slightest of noises, Noah apologized in a whisper.
"Sorry if it startled you," he amended, letting his hand fall back to his side. "Let's come up with a quieter plan to get across this thing."
Noah turned back to the water and gazed at it intently. Green flesh littered with scales appeared often from the depths, like shark fins; More kappas. Sending his penetrating gaze further down the mote, he sat straighter in surprise.
"Polaris!" He beckoned her toward the edge with him leaning dangerously over it. "Look!" His outstretched arm was seemingly pointing at a lily pad floating serenely among the vicious creatures in the mote.
On it, sat a particularly familiar toad.

As Noah was knelt down by her side, she simply looked at him before licking at his hand. His apology was accepted with a nod from her. When Noah turned back to the water, she couldn't help but follow him with her gaze.
Before too long, she shifted back into her normal, human form and crawled to the edge of the land, facing sure death down in the water. "I hope you don't ask us to jump in. Because I won't be following." She joked. Her eyes then followed his outstretching hand.
"A lily pad? Hey! There's the toad prince!" Polaris then exlaimed, stating the obvious. She was just about to jump into the torrent before remembering what was down there: kappas. "Damn.." She mumbled, quite discouraged.
Polaris quirked a brow and stared at the toad for a moment. "How do you think we can get the bugger? We've so much to ask him! I know a few charms, but I'm not too sure they'll work on.. toads."

The sound of Polaris' voice startled Noah, and he turned to the girl with a bemused smile on his face while half-expecting her to still be haunched on all fours as a wolf. "Really, Polaris," he leaned forward, fingers clenching on the ledge of the crumbly ground. "If I wanted to die being eaten, it wouldn't be as fish food." He sent her a brief glance, wiping his slightly damp fringe from his eyes.
"And anyway, maybe the Kappas aren't hungry after that pleasant display of tearing apart a full grown troll - see how they stay away from that toad?" It was curious how they formed a ring around the bumpy and outrageous creature instead of tearing apart at it like they did everything else. "Maybe he really is a king?"
The thought excited Noah, and he sent the toad a promising grin. "Oy! You owe me for landing you a make-out session!" He cried, waving an arm. It looked at him for a moment, before more lily pads appeared out of nowhere on the water.
Then, he jumped his way across the mote, leaving the two behind.
After staring at it desolately until it disappeared, Noah finally turned around and grabbed the nearest carcass with a bare hand. "We'll have to follow him," he said easily, separating a bone from whatever flesh was left. "And these bodies are all we have left to build some sort of bridge with."
He tied a few of the largest bones together with an impedimenta spell, before turning to Polaris wondering how she'd react to his absurdly morbid idea. He bumped her with his elbow encouragingly, making sure not to touch her with his tainted hands, and allowed a small smile to come over his face.

After watching Noah begin to build a bridge from mere bones of the festering carcasses that were around him, Polaris scrunched up her nose at the thought of having to step of that. Besides, it could possibly just waste time they didn't have. But.. everything was worth a try atleast once.
The Ravenclaw then smile and tapped Noah on the head with her wand. "We could do it your way and risk falling into the river.. or float there!" She said to him, tilting her head to the side, quite amazed that she even had suggested such thing. She was terrified of flying, but this seemed to be the only thing that came to her mind.
"Unless you want to use my Silver Arrow.." Polaris stuck a hand deep into her pocket, then pulling out a miniscule broomstick. "I put a reducio charm on it and always keep it in my pocket just in case the time proves right."
Holding out the miniture broomstick to Noah, Polaris didn't really seem to keen on being the one to operate such a thing. Lowering her head slightly before speaking, she insisted that he take it. "I don't know how to use it, anyways.."
She had given him multiple choices in what to do just in case he didn't like his own idea and thought it time consuming. Not that she didn't like it though, she was just weary of how it would hold up! Polaris then lifted her head and grinned playfully. "Besides, that bugger owes you somethin', right?"

Noah stared at Polaris stunned for a moment, before his gaze fell to her outstretched hand. "If I had known you were so prepared for our misfortune, I'd have never touched that mess! Eugh!"
Sending her a sideways glance, smirking mischievously, he flexed his fingers. "I think it's only fair you suffer the same fate..." With that, he stepped closer and reached out both palms as if trying to use her robes as a towel. He stopped just short of the material, arching a brow and breathing a ragged laugh.
"...Just kidding."
After wiping his hands on the dead grass, not bothered enough to spell the filth away, Noah accepted Polaris' broom with a tender smile. "Promise not to be afraid?" He asked her under his breath, before resizing the broom to it's original form and hopping onto it.
He waited for her to get on, before laughing brightly. "Plus, if I end up flying this thing into the ground, you can always claw my eyes you, can't you? I think I have more to be frightened of than you do, quite honestly." Noah's voice was teasing, but his hand gripped onto the broom with stubborn seriousness.

Having to laugh at Noah's misfortune of becoming dirty with rotten, festering meat, Polaris was offering him a smile the whole time. Except the part where he was about to wipe his hands on her cloak. Oh no. She was scooting away from that. That stench will follow you and stick on you for days.
"I'm not promising anything.. but I will try." She said softly, climbing onto the broom. What a weird feeling.."Uhm, Noah. How do I hold onto this thing?" The Ravenclaw asked while tettering around on the slim broom handle. When she said she didn't know how to fly, she meant it.
Polaris huffed at him before furrowing her eyebrows. "I'll have you know I'm not a cat and do not 'claw' anything." She corrected him, reminding him that she was indeed, not Erys. After a moment of silence she decided to add a bit more onto her sentence."I go for the throat."
She laughed, albeit a bit nervously, but it was a laugh none the less. Polaris had hoped he picked up on the joke there and it didn't make him nervous. "Besides, I don't mind if you run it into the ground.. it just gives me an excuse not to learn how to fly, anyways." She admitted, her hands still fondling the broomstick in every way possible just to find where to hold it without much room.
