A new term, a new start. Things recently had been rocky between the twins and it was so obvious even strangers in the school had noticed and come up to Brooke asking why Bryn wasn't with her. Their noses soon got a firm slap from her for poking their noses into business that wasn't their own. Bryn was way to overprotective of Brooke, and she just wanted him to loosen the safety reigns on her just a little. It seemed the older they got the more they fought. Of course this time it was different, they had really fallen out and their relationship had taken a good beating. 'Time to patch it up' she thought, hoping that this term he would see things from her perspective a little more, and she would try with him also.
Running through what she was going to say in her head, she wandered the same corridor over and over before eventually just lapping the same stretch of stone. Whispering the words as they processed through her mind, she watched her feet as she walked and turned every couple of seconds. The pace and the turning was making her feel slightly dizzy and she knew if she continued she would probably be sick. She soon stopped in her tracks when she saw a pair of feet, and jumping slightly she looked up quickly to see her twin.
"Bryn!" she exclaimed as she wrapped her arms around his neck, rather shocked even though she knew twins had that sort of twin-sense. Well, at least the Kennedy's used to. "Ah..." she paused, looking down to his chest. Frowning slightly, she lifted her hand and tilted her head to look at the shiny new crimson and gold badge proudly pinned to his robes. "So you made prefect?!" she said rather in awe at the new status he had been given, although a slight bitterness began to eat away at the words she was processing just moments ago for an apology. Flicking her eyes back up to him for a moment, she touched the badge for a split second before whipping her hand back as if it had just burnt her. "Congratulations" she said monotone as she crossed her arms over her chest.

The summer at the Kennedy residence hadnt been all that relaxed. Bryn and Brooke got a major telling off as soon as they stepped foot in the door because they hadnt written, Bryn had ended up laughing which made their parents even madder and Brooke had just looked like she was a naughty puppy who had pee'd on the carpet. The Kennedy's were more known because of Bryn and Brooke, their pranks, and how close they were. A lot of people knew their business, whether the twins liked it or not, and even at home Bryn and Brooke hadnt been speaking much and in all honesty, Bryn tried to say he didnt care, yes he was mad at her and anyone who knew him knew Bryn could hold a grudge for years, but he did miss how close they were. There was a time when it seemed like they could literally read eachothers thoughts, sometimes Bryn believed they could.
Walking back down the familiar hallways of Hogwarts, Bryn had been made a prefect and he hadnt saw fit to tell Brooke yet. His robes danced around his feet as he walked, slowly making his way back to the common room and thinking about what this year would have in stall for him when his eyes found someone pacing. He knew who it was straight off, Brooke. Not the person he wanted to run into, sure, but he supposed it was better than a Slytherin. Taking a breath, he figured he should at least talk to her, afterall, she was his twin, whether he liked it or not right now didnt matter.
"Brooke..." Bryn said flatly as she swung her arms around his neck. Something she used to do when the two could claim to be close. Half heartedly, he wrapped his arms around his sisters back and gave her a hug, before letting her go. He watched her gaze at his badge and quickly went to hide it, but she had already seen it and as she spoke, he could hear the bitterness seeping from her tone. He knew she wanted prefect, she had heard her telling Ali over summer, he figured this must have been a blow for her for Bryn to get it and not her. "Yeah, I guess I did." His voice was awkward as his eyes scanned the floor and his hand went to his hair, rubbing it back a bit. His hair had gained length over the summer too, so he had more to play with. "Could you sound less thrilled for me if you tried?" He asked, sarcasm dripping from his tone as he crossed his arms, almost looking exactly like Brooke in stance.

Well, this moment couldn't be more awkward unless the pair of them began flashing each other. Brooke pulled at a piece of hair and began to twirl it it between her fingers of both hands, anything to keep her hands busy. They were twins alright, and as Bryn mimicked Brooke's actions, she realised she had mimicked his by playing with her hair. Letting a small smirk play on her lips, she let her arms drop lazily to her sides into a less defensive manner. As she looked back up to Bryn again, she couldn't help but see the badge as her eyes flickered up to look at his face. She rose her eyebrows and pouted slightly, unsure of how to apologise to her brother. She didn't do apologies and when she did they were never good, nor sincere.
"It could be worse, I could hate you for it" she said, her famous Kennedy anger spat out without her thinking. She regretted saying it as soon as it left her mouth, but that was Brooke, always speaking before thinking, that's what got her in most of these situations in the first place. She gritted her teeth slightly before letting the comment go and giving a small sympathetic smile to her brother.
"Look Bryn, we both no i'm an idiot right, can we just let things go yeah? I miss how things used to be" she asked, pleading slightly. It almost killed her to be like this, she hated being in the wrong, and this was certainly deeply set. What scared her most however was not lack of freedom, but lack of a twin brother. She had tried to imagine life without Bryn in her childish 'I don't need you' way, but she simply couldn't.
"Truce?" she asked, outstretching her hand to shake with his. Whether he would take it or not would affect their futures forever. Brooke's hand twitched slightly, a force wanting to pull it back and not leave the state of their futures to a handshake, but she kept it there firmly as the seconds felt like minutes...

Well lets be truthful, the twins werent used to awkward moments like this, especially with eachother. He began to put more weight on his left foot, and then shift it to the right. A silence had fallen over the two and made Bryn feel that uncomfy he actually wanted to leave. He wondered if this was how an ex feels when they run into a past wife or husband. "Remind me never to put myself in that position" He thought lazily to himself as he looked back to his sister, to find her looking at him. Both their faces seemed void of emotion and rather stony. Bryn tried to remember if he had ever felt this bad about something, but he couldnt. He wasnt mad at Brooke for getting attention from the lads, she was pretty enough. What he was mad about was how she flaunted herself last year with no care for Bryn or Ali. She hadnt realised their reputations had suffered because of it, and though she didnt know it, she had got a name for herself and unfortunatly, it was a name that was soon associated with Bryn and Ali, that, he couldnt forgive her for.
Her comment struck a nerve in Bryn and he visably winced at it, "Yeah well it seems as though you do hate me for it." Though why she would, he didnt know. It wasnt his fault he was made a prefect and not Brooke was it? His hand moved down from his hair to the back of his neck as his eyes shifted and looked to the wall, wanting to look at anything but his sister. All their years, Bryn and Brooke had been best friends, sure they had had their squabbles before, but nothing like this. They had completley fallen out and Bryn couldnt stand the sight of her at one point and never went out of his way to be nice to her during that time. He had completley cut himself off from her and been spending more time with Cairo then with his own sister. The last year had seriously tested the twins relationship, and it hadnt been for the better either.
"Yeah, you got that one right, Brooke. You are an idiot, first class actually." He scathed, not looking at her. There was often a debate in their house over who was the most stubborn, and in things like this, even Bryn wondered if he was the more stubborn of the two Kennedys. His eyes dropped when she said she missed how things were, he knew how she felt because he missed it too, but she had dragged him down with her reputation and he had tried, but he couldnt get past it and even now, thinking about it made him mad. "You were a serious prat last year Brooke, you gave Ali and myself a reputation we didnt deserve, hell I dont even think Zayne deserved the reputation you threw on us and he's worse than you are!" Sighing, he looked back towards Brooke, his eyes showed a little bit of sadness, he missed his sister and he figured if they worked they could get past it easily. "But your right, I miss how it was too, we used to have a lot of fun." Looking down at his prefect badge he wondered if he would have to stop now too, afterall, he did have to set an example, "No harm if I dont get caught though" He thought with a smile.
Looking down at her outstretched hand, it was clear Bryn was fighting with himself whether or not he should take it. Being the bigger man, he would have done, but his own stubborness and pettyness was holding him back. If he didnt take it though, their friendship would be on the rocks forever, and he didnt know if he liked that idea much. Smiling, he pushed his sisters hand away and pulled her into a hug instead, "You big softie." He half laughed, his way of saying he would call a truce with her, at least until she did something stupid again.

It had taken a lot for Brooke to apologise to her twin brother. To anyone else she would never of dreamt of apologising and actually saying those heart-felt words and meaning them, but after a couple of weeks thinking and dwelling on the arguments they had been having and the obvious avoidance they had both been doing towards each other, she had finally been reduced to apologising. She physically felt ill when she was in the wrong, or had done something others disapproved of. She hated the feeling of someone else being smug towards her when she was mistaken and it was even worse when it was family or friends. She felt the redness graze her cheeks as the pair stood in silence, Bryn obviously not physically able to look at her. The look in his eyes as he looked anywhere but her crushed her spirit and chest felt her chest tighten, unable to breath until he had an answer from her.
She simply looked down and nodded when he agreed with what she was saying. She knew she had been going a bit off the beaten track and more wayward than usual, but also she knew she was in control and would never go to far. It seemed Bryn was just being overly protective and things had gotten to him. The seconds seemed to tick into minutes as she stood there, eyes wide with baited breath. She was sure if he didn't answer in the next few seconds then she would die from lack of breathing. Either that or he would answer that he couldn't forgive her and she would drop to the floor and die right there and then. The tight grasp in her chest was not passing and she was sure it would happen any second. But then there it was. As her hand began shaking she looked away from Bryn's face for a split second and down at her hand in attempt to make her mind stop the shaking. As her eyes flickered back up, her hand was pushed away and her eyes becan tearing. He couldn't forgive her.
He suddenly pulled her into a hug and a sudden gasp left her. She just stood there for a moment in shock, the tears threatening to roll gracefully down her crimson cheeks. It took her a good minute to realise he had forgiven her and eventually she embraced her brother, squeezing him so tight she heard him wheeze in her ear. The noise made her laugh and break away from him, still keeping her arms aroung his neck. "It's not often i'm a softie. I must get it from you" she mocked, a genuine grin planted firmly on her lips. Giving a small jiggle in happiness she let him go and looked out of the window. "So shall we go and pull some pranks my prefect brother?" she smirked, biting her lip in excitement at their rekindled bond.
