Ethan smiled at the Slytherin girl and held his hand out to greet her. He was taking a big chance with her here as unlike the Slytherin boy who seemed quite friendly, the girl still held a look that Ethan interpreted as a look that was really to Hex him at any moment. Still, Ethan couldn't help himself and his hand outstretched to her in greeting before he could stop himself.
Assuming the girl took his hand, he outstretched it too the other girl, the Ravenclaw, keeping his hand as low as possible out of reach of the demonic owl. Ethan usually loved animals and usually they returned the emotion but obviously the bird was knarked for some reason and was taking it out on everyone but it's rescuer. Still, Ethan didn't blame it, he'd be angry if he'd just got petrified. Ethan then extended his hand to the Slytherin boy and finally introduced himself.
"I'm Ethan Howard, pleased to meet you all.....but it seems the owl isn't as thrilled" he smirked before using a nearby window ledge to seal the letter properly and choose another owl.
It was when Ethan went back to choosing a carrier for his letter that commotion broke out behind him, but Ethan looked up and chose to ignore it. It was then he realised the Slytherin was digging his nails into the Ravenclaws shoulder. Coughing he strutted over and pulled the Ravenclaw behind him, his form towering over hers.
"Dorian you say? Look, violence towards her for doing something she believes isn't right. The bird may have hurt you but that's not her fault" he said in a defensive tone.
"It's no big deal now alright? Your healed, the bird's away from you, end of story. Please leave the anger issues to others, you seem a nice guy and anger doesn't suit you".
The girl seemed to be coping well with the Slytherins, a sense of 'no crap taken here' aura surrounded her, but it was in Ethan's nature to be protective. It especially wasn't fair that he was picking on a girl, possibly a rather old fashioned view, but that's just how Ethan worked. He didn't like to see people being bullied, whether they could handle themselves or not.
Now it seemed everything was working out, Ethan smiled and watched Polaris get her hawk like owl and ask about letters. Looking down at his hand, it still clutched the cream envelope although slightly creased now.
"Do you think your owl could deliver this for me?" he asked, wafting the letter and showing a shiny gold coin in the other.
"It needs to be pretty speedy"
